PixelJunk Shooter 2
Junkies searching for an opponent…

It’s out on PSN for 10USD. There isn’t a demo right now, but it’s up for the first game and they both share the same type of gameplay. PJS2 is the only one with multiplayer though.

Trailers

Giant Bomb quicklook

Id throw up some screenshots, but if you do wanna see more I recommend you play the demo for the first game. It’s what like 60 megs? It’ll help you get a feel for what makes these games awesome. Which to me are:
- The emphasis and application of realistic physics to the gameplay. You have to manipulate liquids (lava, ice, water) in order to clear/seal pathways, defeat enemies or find collectables. You have to find creative ways to work around your restrictions, I feel like it is a smart game.

-The soundtrack is pretty cool

-The art might not be for everyone. But it is fully realized. The art direction is stella.

-The bosses are done really well, using most of the mechanics you learn in their respective stages. Again
you have to stay on your toes

- The multiplayer has some kinks to iron out. But if your matched against the right opponent, it is soo much fun (Again, multi is only in PJS2)

Reviews
Game rankings has their reviews, all 11 of them. Sitting at 85% right now.

There isn’t a lot of reviews going up sadly.

Judging from the thread on gaf, this one may not get alot of traffic. But nonetheless I wanna know what you PA people think about it.

    Holy hell, this is out?

PJS1 had multiplayer by the way, local though. Is this online?

The co-op appears to be local only, but there's a whole online competitive multiplayer mode that I haven't tried.

I greatly enjoyed the first one, but the reviews of the sequel are lukewarm so far. Definitely waiting and hoping that there'll be a demo.

I haven't seen any of the reviews yet. Although I've only played three levels so far, I'm enjoying it. It is pretty much just like the first one, except with new substances to deal with. It also seems a lot more difficult.

It's probably the difficulty thing I'm most worried about. What I enjoyed about the first game was that it wasn't all that difficult - it let you progress quite easily, but if you wanted to do a perfect run it was still challenging.

    It's definitely harder.

This is a good thing; I found the original too easy.

I just bought the first one, and I'm enjoying it. I want to 100% it before I buy this one.

It's funny how this has snuck up on people. Almost like Q-Games wasted their marketing budget on those silly survivor files.

The competitive multiplayer for PJS2 is online, not the co-op though.

I made it to the second area tonight, which I think is a lot more fun than the first so far.

I also gave the multiplayer a shot. Seems fun, but I doubt I'll play it much. I lost, but it was close.

I beat the boss of chapter 5 and feel kind of bad about it, even if it took me what felt like 15 attempts.

This game is a lot harder then the first. The last boss was kinda hard, though I think I died more on the turtle.
I liked how the eye ball boss had all the elements at its disposal.

I'm trying to rescue all the survivors and find all the treasures, but I'm finding the online matches to be pretty addictive. I like the system they have in place for advancing through the planetary leagues.

I feel like the grapple needs to be nerfed. Having both your thrusters and your lazers disabled when you're grappled is too much. I know you just need to spin to get out, and sure, it's easy to manipulate a grapple spammer. But still!

The Flame ball has too much ammo. I've never used it, but three shots seems like too much. Okay yea, this may be because I've had my ass kicked too many times by it.

Edit: Scroll down to the bottom of this neogaf page for a post by Dylan Cuthbert, he's the lead from Q-Games I think.

Yeah matches can devolve into grapple-fests occasionally. I do it a lot because I feel like I suck at shooting people down with the regular weapon.

The magma shot can be overpowering, but at the same time I think I kill myself with it just as much as I kill others.

I fired up the first Shooter today, and yup they did do a lot of fine gameplay fine-tuning. Had they not made it easier to fire off missles PJS2 would be really friggin hard. Going back to the first is great now that I've beat the second. I had forgotten that the first one had leaderboards too, which is really inspiring me to plow through these games right now.

Usually I don't give a fuck about leaderboards, but I was ranked 21st in multiplayer today and it really made me want to get even better.

The music and level designs in 2 are so much improved, that it's really hard to play any other games right now. There's really only 2 things I think that could improve this game for the inevitable sequel.

    1. Online co-op for the adventure mode. This would be sweet.
    2. Four player online matches in vein of the online mode in 2. This could be ca-razy.

I finally beat this game yesterday, although I guess there's more to it if you find all the diamonds. Working on that right now, but it can be frustrating to replay a level trying to find that last diamond and making it to the very last area of the level without finding it.

Also I hate the Hungry Suit, but I think I am done with all those levels.

I freakin love the TouHou/Galaga boss fight. Thinking about going back and seeing if it's possible to save him. Like graple his right hand and pull him back on to the wall or something.

I didn't know you could move faster with the hungry suit by using the both sticks same direction tactic.

Also I'm super pissed that when I get my PS3 back from repairs I'm going to havta find all my survivors and crystals all over. I'll just be happy to play this game again I suppose.
