That video is crazy. It's like some kind of massive blob monster that just doesn't stop. Awful seeing the cars and things trying to drive away about 3 minutes in.
Whenever crap like this happens it always makes me think of how much people here in England complain about our weather all the time, and how much I want to smack those people.

ok, so how long before the charities kick in
I'm betting celebrities are being called to recording studios to make heartfelt pleas as we speak

Something I saw on Twitter, thought I'd share it with you fine gentlepeople.
Yeah i was going to say, surely Japan, a country with 20% of recorded annual seismic activity, would have made sure that they know how to deal with these kinds of problems through their engineering and emergency plans. It sounds like a horrible, horrible thing to say, but I think that had it happened somewhere else it might have been a lot worse.

I did notice that a lot of buildings did not collapsed. Because they did what they were designed to do. Which is survive earthquakes in a region prone to earthquakes.

Well there was that whole thing in Haiti, where an earthquake much less powerful flattened a whole lot of buildings.
So that tsunami simultaniously planted a boat in the middle of a farm AND carried something that was ON FIRE onto the freeway, at least, thats what I saw in the video. I'm in Djibouti and there is a Japanese military base here that trains for desert deployment and I really feel bad for those guys, not saying that I don't sympathize with people who are in japan or come from japan, or know japanese people....I mean....I just feel bad for these guys deployed overseas and their home country/town/ just got tsunami'd.
also shit is that the nuclear reactor or whatever?
Oil refinery, I think.
Lots of conflicting reports vis-a-vis the nuclear reactors (some reports that the cooling systems for nuclear plants have been compromised).
Seriously, this is when i enjoy the internet the most. For this very reason. I love the coverage and information that is just instant. This is why I think the internet is awesome.

no, just a sadly predictable one
(not including ones below 5.0)
That's the scariest part. There's probably a ton of minor aftershocks hitting that area at the same time.

And Hawaii's about to have a big tsunami

That was terrible.

What reports I've seen about nuclear reactors is that they have done what they should do: i.e. shut down.
gonna go watch more news (no one is on skype to talk to!)
oh ok now it's up. informing my friend who went to sleep at 6 (before the earthquake) and just woke up
