Once you unlock the better combo for Ellie you can infinite chain monsters to get the most out of them.

y+y+y+y+hold up&y, then y once in the air to pop them up again, and repeat. The timing takes a bit to get down, but once you get it you can hit monsters until they start flashing and fall of the screen. They always drop a more valuable gem if they leave the screen flashing. Before I got the best combo down I was using chomp's Drill Mister ability. It's multi hit (8 or 10, depending on where it starts on them). As far as I can tell its the only multi-hit ability, but I didn't get all of the forms to 5 to see what their abilities were.

    Very fun platformer/metroidvania game.

Cloud, I finished Hatsworth too. It's doable, just extremely difficult. You should power through the final area, as the final boss and ending are worth it.

The final boss is the biggest bullshit collection of goosery ever.

Got to him, but gave up after a while.

Guess I gotta import this, ugh.

The final boss in Monster Tale was the second easiest boss in the game. Maybe I was just super powered up at that point... but it wasn't very difficult, and was the only boss I beat first try. The easiest boss was of course the first boss, but I didn't know what I was doing at that point and found him -way- too early.

The only boss I didn't beat first try was the third. I was expecting a huge difficulty spike after that point (a la Hatsworth), but it never came.

Honestly, once you get a Chomp evolution with Heal, there's very little reason to die. It's generally pretty easy to play defensively and regain health faster than you're losing it.
