I'm about to wipe out my sister's virus-raped computer by installing Windows 7 64 bit. What is the option called to wipe out everything and not keep an old version? She only has a 120GB hard drive but this is an emergency and we don't have time to shop around for a new one.

When installing just delete the old partition and recreate it. Nice and quick.

Also this thread is awesome, cheers guys.

Hell, nuke it from orbit. AKA a knoppix disk.

    ninite is the best.

    also been trying out http://www.soluto.com/

seems interesting, gives you a nice time-based look at what's running on startup, lets you know what the apps are and a recommendation on whether to turn it off or not. Also apparently does some fancy application crash monitoring then follows it up with an attempt at recovery.

I wish I could use Ninite when building the million different system images I'm working on. Would save me so much time, and so much tedium.

I'm checking out Soluto right now because it sounds awesome.

Just re-installed 2 different systems over the weekend. It amazes me how easy it is nowadays. I remember re-installing windows 95, making boot discs, messing around in DOS, all that jazz. Then having to find all your old driver floppy discs to get everything back up and running.

Over the weekend I just shoved in a Windows 7 disc, selected install, selected the drive and went and did some gardening. Came back in the house later, used Ninite to install all the essential apps, downloaded ATI Catalyst Control Centre and I had a fully working system.

    Ninite is awesome.

I reinstalled Windows yesterday. I had an .ISO but no DVD to burn it to and no USB drive large enough to hold it. But I did have an extra hard drive. So I partitioned part of the hard drive, made it bootable, copied the contents of the .ISO onto the hard drive, stuck that into the computer, booted from it, and installed Windows. So, that's something I hadn't done before.

The Zune desktop software is actually a pretty darn nice standalone media player.

Yeah, those things. The Zune HD is amazing, the Zune desktop software is stellar, and Windows Phone 7 uses the Zune software.

It's also intergrated with Windows/Xbox Live.

    Recommending: Grindstone.

The only way I could love it more is if it were open source.

Great way to track tasks and time spent doing things.
