Has anyone else been giving Prishe a shot? I never played FFXI or anything but she strikes me as being pretty awesome. I'm under the assumption that she eventually learns some combos into HP attacks ala Zidane, but for now she's just a significantly more awesome Tifa.
I also love Gilgamesh as a character but haven't tried using him yet. It's like I'm "saving" him until I really figure out the best way to level characters in this game. Labyrinth mode doesn't seem to be the answer, at least for now.
prishe never learns any brave->hp chains. However, you can customize the way each combo plays out, since each combo has 4 starts and 6 (I think it's 6) ends.
I'm currently maining her, and I'm enjoying her (also a XI fan). All of her HP attack quotes are from the fight in XI where she helps.

Hm. Does she learn any particularly good HP attacks later, or have a regular combo that in some way sets up an HP attack? I guess it's not the end of the world in this game thanks to combos with assists, but I just kind of assumed that a combo-oriented character would be able to combo into HP attacks on their own.
I think Jecht has spoiled me. He remains the King of Combos.
There's a nice continuity nod that's added to 013's story mode.
The heroes comment how some of the manikins take the forms of "unfamiliar faces".
Cloud seems especially disgusted that they've taken the form of "someone familiar", and also mentions how he feels that he's forgotten someone "very important" to him.
Warrior of Light definitely had the best lines in the first game. I love it when he responds to Ultimecia's villain monologue with "Are you done talking?". And "Bathe in the Light!" still has some cheesy charm - especially since I have a tendency to spam that move.
It was actually Sephiroth he said that too...which is much cooler, all things considered.
And to rephrase, it wasn't his lines that were cheesy, but the delivery of the actor. I'm glad he's improved regardless.
But again, I'm very happy they changed Cloud's battle dialog. No other character made you feel like shit for winning a fight by being awesome ("Can't smile about this one"). Even by Cloud standards, that was some emo commentary.
Nope, definitely Ultimecia. I played his story on Saturday
I'm curious how everyone here has Lightning setup and if anyone had the same idea that I did.
Basically, I looked at her abilities and realized that her Commando Air Bravery attacks are kind of ehh, while her Ravager Ground Bravery attacks aren't that great either.
So I built her so that I use Commando on the ground and Ravager in the air. So far it's working rather well for me.

Her HP attacks are mostly trash except for banishga, I hardly ever hit anything with her ground HP and her other air HP is only useful when you're under but not directly under the enemy.
However banishga changed the game. I wanted to main her cause I love her from ffxi, but she was sorta trash for a good number of levels. Then I got banishga and its all better now

Overall I'm not a fan of Lighting in Dissidia. I really don't like the playstyle her moveset seems to suggest.
I've become a big fan of Kain, though. After getting used to holding Triangle after a combo, you can string together some awesome attack chains.
I really like Tifa's feints, but it's not as effective as it is cool. It's still great when you feint through a projectile, appear behind the enemy, and smash them into a wall.
But Laguna is my favorite of the new crew. Constant, constant missiles, rockets, and sticky grenades. And Grove's tip to grenade -> Satellite Laser made my decade.
edit: I get that Laguna's Electroshield is used to deflect projectiles, and it's pretty much used to set up cover wherever you want. But what's a good strategy for using it?
Anyone getting The 3rd Birthday tomorrow? Will it be on PSN? I'd rather Download it.
Definitely buying it, but my card is getting full so I'm going with a retail copy.
As of now, I'm skipping it. I hate to be one of "those guys", but the "bit twist" that I read about really disgusts me. You thought Metroid: Other M ruined Samus? This is much worse.
And what's worse, it'll probably never be undone, since the game tanked in Japan which probably means no sequel.
Yeah, in my line of work we've come to discover how bizarre focus groups can be. You leave the facility thinking you have eveything figured out and then you look at the statistics a few months later and realize that that group of 12 people had no idea what would be popular among thousands of people.
It's an 8-bit Final Fantasy knockoff that haunts your DS, doing tricks like opening up your menu or inserting creepy pictures and why can't I fucking play this in English fuck!

Server borked, unsure how long it'll take to get back to normal, but I hope it's soon. I've been posting on (shudder) GAF, but there's only so much I can take.
A singleplayer FFXI has been one of several dream projects I wish SE would make. Truth be told, it's got some of the best writing and dialog of any FF game in the last few years, and there are plenty of awesome characters besides Prishe and Shantotto. I'm sure it would be easy enough to take the story and re-brand it as a 3DS RPG or something.
I really like Tifa's feints, but it's not as effective as it is cool. It's still great when you feint through a projectile, appear behind the enemy, and smash them into a wall.
The one thing that's keeping Tifa's feints from breaking the game is that there are many HP attacks that track her as she teleports behind opponents. Laguna's aerial Ragnorok is a prime example.
She's still incredibly speedy and can really close in on enemies. Basically, she's the character to use if you want to play the game like Street Fighter instead of Final Fantasy.
Prishe is now available to unlock, but I lack the PP. I spent it on the 00 story even though I don't have anyone close to the levels for it.
Also, I noticed a cool easter egg in the 013 story modes, not sure if this was in the original game or not: in each character's chapter, there's a chest that contains an amount that's equal to the release date of their respective games. In Cloud's chapter, there's a chest that contains 1997 gil, and in Onion Knight's there's a chest with 1990 gil.
It's a neat reference, and I'm glad I caught it. I'm curious if this also occurred during the 012 chapters (2010 gil for Lightning?).
After putting in an extended time in the Labyrinth, I think I've finally figured out its quirks.
-You start every run with zero items, and the majority of your gear is POS (procure on site).
-At any time you can leave, and pitch a tent. During your next run, if you reach your tent again (it's marked on the map), you'll get all your items back. If at any time you pitch up a new tent, you lose the items you got previously
-If you reach a goal, you'll typically find a few specially marked "pit" items. These items can be taken out of the labyrinth, and also equipped when you enter.
-Also at the goal, you can pitch a cottage. It functions the same as a tent, and you can have both a tent and a cottage up at the same time.
So basically the game plan is to go in and earn medals/get equipment. Try to find a goal, earn some pit items, and pitch a cottage. Then the next time you go in, retrieve your cottage so that all the items you found previously don't go to waste. You don't want to ignore the tents/cottages, because otherwise the majority of your runs will be wearing nothing. It took me a few runs to divine this trick, because on some runs I'd collect a bunch of weapons and armor that made fighting a snap, but then lament at losing them when I started over.
I'm still trying to work out if it's possible to farm earlier floors for items without completely losing your stuff. Some floors specialize in summons, others booster items, and so on. I had to cut short an awesome run of the "Chamber of Greed", because the door unlock asked to win a battle with a 2.5 multiplier, but I had absolutely no booster gear to get it to that. I do know you can keep pit gear without pitching new tents/cottages, which would destroy your old ones, so there's that. But I'm just hoping I don't essentially have to start over from one of the earlier floors and plan a long trek through the majority of the place to reach my tent again.
Either way, you really have to think of it as its own special mode, separate from the game. I can see why people think it sucks. It's not for leveling, or earning AP/Gil/PP, and outside the rare items it's not for collecting gear either. It's its own thing, but it's ridiculously fun and addicting if you open up to it.

But do feel free to briefly update me if the game is worth playing or not. I'd rather not dig through that other thread to find out. Just a simple Y/N will do.
I don't think I could stomach it, then: I absolutely LOVED the plot of the first game. Looking back, it's like a Persona/SMT title with Square visuals and presentation.
But the twist in this game? It's as bad as "everyone dies" at the end of FFVII (a fan theory that, thankfully, did not come to pass).
I know downer endings were the rage in the late 90's, but there was no way I would support such a big "fuck you" ending like that, after spending 50 hours of watching Cloud, Tifa and company struggle so greatly to save the world and their inner demons.

I don't think there's an occasion other than it being a game for the fans. It's funny going from Bartz cheerfully exclaiming "Square Enix! Dissidia Duodecim!" to Squall's surly drawl.
I get that Laguna's Electroshield is used to deflect projectiles, and it's pretty much used to set up cover wherever you want. But what's a good strategy for using it?
I use this all the time. I set it up, let the AI dash in and then either Machine Gun them or Satellite HP or Ground Ragnarok Beam HP them. You can basically stand behind it for safety and spam the Satellite HP attack all day long. Basically just throw it up, wait on your opponent and after they either dash right into it or try to use an attack that is blocked by it, do whatever you want to them and..... repeat.

Yep, you're pretty much right. The only thing worth adding is that the Cottage is placed in a random spot, while the Tent is exactly where you left.
As for the Cloister of Greed, that place was insane. I was fortunate to have some other accessories from earlier, so I finished that one battle with a 10.3 multiplier. The REALLY nasty one was getting 30 medals in a single battle. I couldn't find a special battle card (to double my medals), so I had to get 2 Rangers and lower my Lightning to 40 levels below an enemy to get that many.
Pinhole Galleria (the top) was much easier and also has Level 30+ rewards at the end.
013 Has a new ending theme. After the CG cutscene the music during the credits per game is different and the cutscenes shown for each game are different.
Finally encountered Tifa in Prologus (yes I'm still on Prologus, shut up). Anyway, got a few rounds in with Cloud, and after mashing buttons because I forgot to check what his HP attacks were linked to for a while it all smoothed out. I didn't play much of the original Dissidia past the demo, but I recall Cloud being much, much slower. He seems a lot more entertaining to play now.
The download and install time seem painful for 012, but I'll suck it up and buy it once I burn through Cloud's arcade mode. Wonder if I'll actually get the chance to play it tonight.
Do you get anything special for beating it, like a cutscene or FMV? Or is it just for bragging rights?
People mentioned there was a new ending theme, so I was curious where that would take place.
I just beat 000, and nothing happened afterwards. There was no credits/cutscene, nothing. I wonder why they made the chaos fight even easier than in the first Dissidia. I literally did nothing but spam mega flare with yuna through 124k hp. I only had to occasionally dodge or burn an assist if he got an HP attack on me.
Man, you people need to put up your ghost cards. I may not have crazy high levels right now, but I'm still curious to see how you (or your ghosts) hold up.
Just remember it has to be region-specific (NA for me).
Also curious if anyone is messing with the quest creation. I'm still working on mine, but I have plans to get it done relatively soon.
I missed out, but I suppose I shouldn't get greedy after being generously donated Cloud's KH outfit. Having DLC outfits for two of my favorite characters is good enough, although I will fight to the death to nab Squall's KH alt once it's available.
So about 012's ending....
I'm still confused what fate befell the heroes. According to TV Tropes, they straight-up died for real, but didn't the epilogue specifically say that Cosmos used her power to save them?
So what exactly happened to them? Are they stuck in limbo until the 013 heroes break the cycle? Were they sent back to their worlds? Why weren't they allowed to be resurrected like the other heroes?
Gametrailers slammed the story in their review, and are actually receiving flak for it. Aside from the fact that it's much easier to understand than the first game's (in fact, it goes on to make the first game's plot actually make sense), and not counting the fun bits of character interaction, the last dungeon was actually an emotional rollercoaster as it was essentially
your favorite heroes resigning themselves to death.
It's damn depressing, even if it's obvious they never died, or at least stayed dead.

How I heard it described, and what I also kind of got from the plot, is that a warrior who dies via another warrior will be reborn, but not if he dies from a manikin. That's why Kain and WoL were "putting warriors to sleep", so they'd be eligible for reincarnation.
So whether the remaining dudes who assuredly died against the manikins were allowed to go home or not? I dunno, who knows. Unless there's an added cutscene in 13 that clears it up. The Bolivian Army ending is a lot more interesting though.

Fuck off, Cloud, I don't need your unmotivated greeting. Give me Rachel Leigh Cook's sweet voice.
Edit: Gilgamesh's dialog against Tifa is hilarious.
Zidane's is exactly what you expect it to be. The reverse is amusing too.
In other news I just unlocked Prishe. Only has two attacks so far but they are brutal. I can't wait to see what she pulls off in higher levels.

My god does fighting a 125k hp enemy suck.

People mentioned there was a new ending theme, so I was curious where that would take place.

The download and install time seem painful for 012, but I'll suck it up and buy it once I burn through Cloud's arcade mode. Wonder if I'll actually get the chance to play it tonight.

Just remember it has to be region-specific (NA for me).
Also curious if anyone is messing with the quest creation. I'm still working on mine, but I have plans to get it done relatively soon.

Hmm.
First one to tell me via PM how many floors the Chrysler Building has in Parasite Eve 1 gets it.
So about 012's ending....
It's damn depressing, even if it's obvious they never died, or at least stayed dead.

So whether the remaining dudes who assuredly died against the manikins were allowed to go home or not? I dunno, who knows. Unless there's an added cutscene in 13 that clears it up. The Bolivian Army ending is a lot more interesting though.
