So, I got into Tai Chi a few years ago, and have been doing it off and on, usually when I have the time to put fifteen minutes into this meditative exercise.
My instructor is this short, hispanic man who only speaks Spanish and is a Kung Fu master as well. (Dude looks like he walked off the set of "Apocalypo" with his Mayan nose.) Neat guy.
I am barely a white belt, have been missing the testing opportunities. Funny thing is, I am the youngest person in there, usually. The next oldest person is like five years my senior, and before she showed up, the next youngest person was fifteen years my senior. (In other words, a bunch of old folks taking the class.)
Since I've started the meditative exercise, I noticed my breathing has become better, I am more focused, more energized, my body feels stronger and more capable. Could be because we also do Qi Gong exercises.
Recently, we started training with swords. Sword Tai Chi is pretty good because you are using more parts of your brain in the exercises (the tool use part, I realize). I am already noticing an increased intensity in my thinking and focus. It feels great.
I think I am going to pick up some "Fan" Tai Chi moves, too. Walk around with a hand fan, and when someone gives me grief, *WHAP* them in the head with the thing.
Anyone else doing the Chi?

I regret it now, because I made some friends in that class that I lost track of and the place closed about six months later
I'm way out of practice these days, but I've been considering getting back into it to take off some of this weight I've put on and a couple hours of stretching and exercise a week is a good way to keep yourself healthy!

Is there a move in Tai Chi that will make a man crap his pants and not even know why?
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
makes you think.
maybe i should get a new hobby.
Getting a sweaty asshole in your face will change your views on the world faster and deeper than any Eastern meditation or Western analysis.
Then I stopped.
What spring does with the cherry trees.
there are pressure points you can hit that will make you shit your pants, it's awesome.
I did Tai Chi for about a year, and then promptly forgot the form. I took a lot out of the mechanics and a few techniques though and use them in other martial arts I practice. I learned a lot about how the body moves and shit like that, Tai Chi is awesome.
I'm not going to lie to you, Pipe. That move does exist. But you're not ready for it yet.
What, are you saying that dudes can't Zumba? Because my hips beg to differ.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better

when i first started doing bjj it was at a place that also had yoga and so there was a discount to yoga so i went to a few things
that stuff is hard
but good
I guess I was pretty bad at it because the instructor kept on making fun of me in front of the entire class, which got pretty annoying after some time. Maybe I will look for a new hobby.
Also did some BJJ/Kickboxing training for about a year and a half when I got to college. Then I ruined my knee wrestling so I kind of stopped. I can still kick pretty hard though.

Damn I miss that dojo, and I especially miss the conditioning. That was a stress reliever. Uechi-ryu was undoubtedly one of the best things that ever happened to me, and I still hold out some hope they'll reopen again some day.
Also, we have a Tai Chi group that rent the Great Hall next to our apartment, who are some of the nicest people, except for the part where they are also the laziest motherfuckers imaginable. In stead of driving 40 yards to the other end of the parking lot and walking to the Great Hall, they'll just pull up and park on the sidewalk in front of our front door.
In college I studied fencing though for a while, that was much more fun.
The place I was at always stressed the importance of joint locks
Thumbs and shoulders and elbows
We never did much of it, but when we did it was always made obvious to us that these were the things we should remember

I would like to start yoga again though.
Oh, and being put in the banana split (youtube it), that is also a not-fun thing in wrestling.
Got to a green belt in tae kwon do/hapkido my senior year, but had to stop once I started working nights. I'd really like to get into something like that again. I've started stretching every morning again at least, which feels pretty good. It's a nice, easy way to wake your body up for the day without having to break a sweat.
It was loads of relaxing but also really helped smooth out the forms we did in kung fu the next session.
I should find if there's somewhere here in Portland that is respectable.
Tai Chi, hsing-i and bagua are all pretty rad and very interesting to me
Our teachers always said that tae kwon do is a real martial art with a real background and we should respect it, but also that 90% of all places in the US don't teach that but instead teach a lamer, more theatrical version made up by some white dude or something

yeah, the TKD club on campus meets before our club.
we make fun of them
It's definitely a sport where you get old, real damn fast. I was just ok. Mostly an inside fighter. But I was best at being able to take a lot more shots than the other guy. And my trainer taught me how lace a guy in the clinch and how to do a headbutt where the ref couldn't see it.

I read that there are different types of Tai Chi. And in particular, one that affects dreaming.
Anyone know about Tai Chi Dreaming? I'd like to find a website/book/whatever to give to my girlfriend. She has vivid, uncontrollable dreams every night and I would like to give her something to help.
jabbing is fucking hard man.
the one guy I know who does/did taekwondo is
well
I could take him and I'm not a fighter at all
kpop appreciation station i also like to tweet some
I've never heard of any tai chi styles affecting the content of dreams, only the quality of sleep
Perhaps you could look into lucid dreaming. There was a thread asking about it not too long ago, the creator had similar problems. Don't know if it helped the OP or not, but there's lots of information about lucid dreaming online as well as many articles on how to achieve it.
