Oh, and speaking of pranks, remember this one?

I’ve been told that creative people simply don’t last long at SOE. I’ve heard so many horror stories from people in the industry who used to work at SOE or still languish there. The place comes off sounding like some kind of elephant graveyard where creative people go to die.

With that said I have to admit that those sons of bitches have a sense of humor. Smedley sent me an email this morning that just said he’d sent me a package. I assumed it was a bomb but just a few minutes ago a man showed up and proclaimed that he “had our donuts”. That’s not something I expected to hear today. We followed him out to his truck where he showed us our 1,200 freshly baked Krispy Kreme donuts.

    don1.jpg

“Are you guys having a party or something?”

    don2.jpg

    “No we aren’t having a party. It’s a joke.”

    don3.jpg

“Why would someone send you so many donuts as a joke?”

    don4.jpg

    “You wouldn’t get it.”

    Well played SOE…well played indeed.

That particular story also inspired this comic.

We made a comic about "the romz" as well, minus the sky high trucker and vehicular manslaughter it is a true story. It was Gabe though, not me, and it was actually a real FBI agent who cracks down on pornography. He had the cuffs on him, Gabriel's face pressed into the sticky circle left by an ancient soda, and we decided that was a good time to reveal our hidden cameras. Strangely enough, Gabriel never professed his innocence throughout the ordeal. Weird!

    Also from the donut situation
    Gabe wrote:
Just an update on the 1,200 donuts situation. We were able to give all the donuts away. We gave some to the other businesses here in our office building. We also sent a few hundred over to the Seattle Children’s hospital for the staff there. Then we let our PAX enforcers come by and dig in.

A few people have made the comment to me that it was nice of SOE to send us one donut for every subscriber they have. The other funny remark I heard was that this is the best product SOE has ever shipped. You guys are mean.

    Hehe, we sure are.

The soda can story was one that Scott told at PAX East.

He neglected to mention the 144 cans of Pepsi that he helped Erika plant in Robert's office.

    Well played, Kurtz.

Also, no, soda should never be in a guitar.

3 Things I learned from this episode:

Khoo has FBI agents for friends.

Jerry startles easily and his immediate reaction to being startled is unquenchable rage towards the startler.

Pepsi is not good for gey-tars.

    Awesome.

I am uneasily awaiting a news article of 1 Penny Arcade employee and 2 Blammimators floating in a drowning tank owned by the FBI. The drowning liquid? Root beer.

    Nice catch Willeth - that's awesome :D

Great episode, but they really need to investigate the idea of just doing longer episodes. I know why they do it, but it seems like with *so* many episodes being two-parters the run time isn't enough.

It's the preview image, it's not like I paused it strategically. :)

And yeah, I agree. If you're going for a more narrative style than simply fly-on-the-wall, it flows a lot better by nature and is begging for a longer episode, simply because it feels shorter.

We had one of these that my mum had bought at one point and put in a birthday card. We used to take turns hiding it in stacks of paper and it'd scare the shit out of us every time. It broke, though.

It is her birthday in a couple of weeks, though...

EDIT: Holy shit, they're expensive. Looks like I'll be making my own.

That's because March 12 is before April 1. They are chronicling this year's April Fools

Edit: Nevermind about this being an April Fools episode since they said it was only about pranks. I still refuse to believe that Kurtz would neglect to tell this story since it's insanely awesome, unless Robert was still trying to find all the cans (which I doubt) so I still think it happened after PAX East

Edit 2: Crap, now I'm doubting myself. They still haven't put out the PAX East episode so this probably did happen before East. Damn you Kurtz for withholding a great story!

Let me say first of all that I enjoyed the episode and I'm excited for next week.

Now, secondly, Robert Khoo, why did you lie to us? PA had an excellent film crew that you replaced with..how shall I say..amateurs, because you didn't want event episodes anymore. The entire season 2 has been event episodes.

The whole time with the soda can prank escalating (and them taping the can in various places) I was thinking how much it would suck if the tape wasn't strong enough and the can fell and burst.

Other than that mishap, Kris and Kurtz's contribution is beautiful.
