Speaking of Killer Mike, EL-P has a ton of beats done for RTJ2 and he and Mike got together this week to lay down lyrics.

Outkast just played at Coachella and the brought out Killer Mike at the end and finished the set without playing a song with him...

Yeah. I think their set ran on a little too long and the Coachella people cut them off.

Somebody on another forum said this and I'm inclined to agree, noz seems super burnt out on writing about rap, or maybe just the scene in general. Half of the guys on that list get described as "I don't know or care, who is this guy, I'm tired of writing about this guy now". And frankly the whole "who cares if you're even good at rapping anymore" thing is ludicrous. Young thug may be the only modern rapper dude actually likes but it would be a grim world if everyone made music like that
he's definitely burnt out (he barely writes anymore and i was shocked he revived the xxl thing), but i think for understandable reasons and i agree with him on the rappin-ass-rappers. being technically proficient is completely meaningless to me. i care a million times more about personality and originality at this point.
in 2014 there's an infinite number of interchangeable decently talented struggle rappers with a couple mixtapes on datpiff who could easily be swapped out for a troy ave or jon connor, and i equally do not care about any of them.

I dunno, I guess I'd rather listen to generic rappitty raps than whatever you want to call thug or migos or whatever.

For me I'd much rather a rapper starts out with the ability to you know, actually rap and grow from there. I'll listen to a million Gibbs verses over a French Montana "verse."

Yeah. I mean gangsta rappers have moments of clarity every now and then. But for the most part it tends to be cash, cars, and hoes.
I would say that the rise of the popularity of gangsta rap tied in with corporate meddling is the reason a lot of mainstream rappers sound the way they sound these days.

Personally, I say I'm still in the middle.
While I do feel that you can't just be a good rapper you need to be a good musician too these days, I still respect the ability to string words together really well.

Damn bruu....
Seriously though I like a pretty good amount of dumb knuckle dragging rap like gucci or tity boi or whatever, but to borrow a phrase that noz used once, I just have no love for autotuned spit gurgle music.
i'm not as big a fan of young thug as people i usually agree with
mostly i just listen to kevin gates

kevin gates rules
i wouldn't say that the pure ability to spit those bars i've been hearing about is a necessity but rappers definitely need the technical ability to execute the vision that they have for a song

i got bored of all my music so i just made a giant kanye west playlist with all of his songs that are on spotify and then on the /r/kanye subreddit there's this big file of all his unreleased and unofficial and demo content that's pretty phenomenal
so that's what i've been listening to

I'm in the same boat really.
I think I only listen to most albums 2-3 times before I get bored of them and I only have a handful of albums I never get tired of.
Heck, right now all I've been listening to is Section 80 on repeat.

I just got piñata a week or two ago as well as late registration on vinyl. Piñata is pretty cool, although the mixing on Danny Brown's verse is total shit.

i thought this was pretty great and so now i am giving it to you.
This guy is like affiliated with Chance the Rapper, right? This song is super cool but I can't stand chance's music. Weird!
I can't even decide if this is rap or something else. Pretty neat though I think

they're good friends and their rap stuff is all pretty similar
that song is pure house though

the whole thing is basically just a sex, fashion and drug themed madlib.
