Advance>Wii VC>SNES>PSN>PSX for the simple version. It gets more complex if you add in the various versions of the SNES cart.
Advance is the least buggy and has the most content, a slightly better translation and the bonus content is actually interesting and for the most part worthwhile.
SNES version has the best music and sound effects, and I prefer the font. Wii version is the ultimate expression of the SNES version.
Just saw this, jumping on board, going to follow, watch, etc. But damn I'm going to have to relocate a DS that can play GBA games so that I can play FF6 Advance.

Even after the DS was released, I purchased both a GBA SP (AGS-101 with the fancy backlight) and GBA Micro for the purpose of having a "purist" option for playing my GBA catalog well into the DS's rise to power. Best decisions I ever made - I still use both the GBA SP and the Micro regularly just for games like FF6.
FF6 Advance is remarkable - it's just a great, great port. By all means play it on any device you can get your hands on.
None too pleased by his circumstances, Kefka gets a move on.
Figaro and the Empire are allies.
But not close allies.
Now we are controlling Stamos for the first time. Let's check in on his equipment for fun.
First things first, move him into the back row. This is good general advice for just about everybody.
Pretty standard all in all. Note that we will almost never use Edgar's weapon...ever.
Now let's talk to the grunts.
You wouldn't be thinking of invading my kingdom next, would you? We have an alliance...
An alliance? With this miserable sandpit? Don't make laugh!
and the other one...
I hear you've been busy down south, taking over a country or three! Just what is the Empire up to?
That's none of your concern.
What brings Emperor Gesthal's own court mage, Kefka, to my humble castle?
A girl of no importance recently escaped from us. We heard she found refuge here.
This wouldn't have to do with that "witch" everyone's been whispering about, would it?
Lies! She merely stole something of minor value! Is she here?
That's a tough one...
There are more girls in here than grains of sand in the desert. A man couldn't possibly keep track of them all!
Oh, Stamos... You know you only stand to lose from trying to hide her from us! Hee-hee-hee...
I truly hope nothing happens to your precious Figaro!
Oooh scary! Let's check in on Locke who has reappeared suddenly.
Priorities...
I don't like where this is going...
I'd love to stay and chat, but the chancellor and I need to do some planning now. Being a king's not all tea and crumpets. If you'll excuse me...
Follow Me.
Might as well.
If you guessed open door, then you're right. Then you go down the library stairs and over to the right wing. I'm not going to lie this confused the hell out of me back when this game first came out. Probably spent almost an hour trying to find this damn room!
Locke, right? ...Edgar told me about you. Is it true that you're a thief?
Ooookay, someone has issues.
On the surface, Edgar pretends to support the Empire. Truth is, he's collaborating with an underground resistance group called the Returners. I serve as their go-between.
The old man you met in Narshe is one of us, too.
The Empire... But, I'm an Imperial soldier!
Not anymore. They were using you. That's all! Things are different now.
It's just... I don't know what I should do. Whenever I try to think, it just makes my head hurt even worse...
All that matters is that you make your own decisions from now on. You don't have to think too hard right now. You'll know what you want to do when the time comes.
Terra likes to question herself right after or before another character leaves the screen. She does this...from time to time.
I watched the Advance version of the opera house on youtube the other day. The lyrics from the original are engrained in my memory, but I really have to admit that the new lyrics really are just...better.
That being said I miss the old voices

Glad to see this thing is moving again. The SNES FF6 sountrack still remains one of my all time favorite game OSTs, right up there with Chrono Trigger and Lufia 2. I downloaded a vocal version of the opera scene from somewhere that had the words in Japanese. It was pretty interesting and still very pretty to listen to. With all the remakes/re-ports of FF games these days, I'd be concerned if this installment would really be done justice, despite the large cry from the fan-base to remake it. The original is just so damn good; you just never know with Square's tendency to whore their franchises.

I'm still holding onto hope that they will do a Final Fantasy 6 remake similar to the FF3 and FF4 versions on the DS. It's my favorite story/cast/soundtrack/etc. in the entire FF series. That said... ports, ports, and more ports can make even the most enduring classics seem kinda stale after a while - I think a nice 3D redux would be very cool to play through for a change.

Ok, but only if it isn't in the style as though games. I don't think I could stomach that.

I can agree there. The remakes for 3 and 4 reminded me more of "Final Fantasy as portrayed by an all-too-cute cast of Precious Moments dolls."
Ok, here's something I've been meaning to post in this thread, but haven't because lazy.
Nobuo Uematsu, the composer for Final Fantasy VI, and of course many other games, including most of the main Final Fantasy games, had a band called the Black Mages http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Mages that released three albums primarily filled with Final Fantasy songs played as a progressive rock sort of thing. Four of these songs were from Final Fantasy VI, and two have been heard in the LP so far.

Runner-Up:
I seriously like this one, but...
Always bet on Duke.
Not so fast...
Surely a very strong name.
Just as you'd expect from a Leslie.
Time to check back in with King Stamos.
Besides learning that the king is a total hornbag...
Oh boy, business is about to pick up!
Total kingly scowl!
Meanwhile...

Pimp coat or bathrobe, you decide!
Not the least of FF VI Advance's improvements: Character portraits for Kefka and other villains!
Probably dodging statutory rape charges...
Not a diplomatic mission it seems.
Not just sand, SAND! IN MY BOOTS!
One soldier...
Two, two soldiers to clean his boots! At-ah!
The most important thing these soldiers will ever do.

Would have updated yesterday but couldn't for obvious reasons. Will update on either Saturday or Sunday.

The other two we haven't gotten to yet, but I'll post those when we get there for those of you who aren't familiar which this.
In a few days I'm going to be house sitting for a week and will probably do daily updates to try and catch up a bit.
