Addded some FO3 Mods to the OP (Thanks to Orca's old posts). If anyone not dealing with work filters wants to message me or post the 25 top FONV mods, I'll happily add them.
Definitely. Unless you go off the beaten path or piss off the Legion, there's nothing particularly dangerous on the initial road to Vegas. Cazadors will teach you humility.
Really you are finding 'Very Hard' easy enough? I found Normal difficulty enough challenge. I have finished the game four times as different characters so I think I count as a veteran. Also Hardcore Mode isn't really related to difficulty directly it's just 'more things to worry about' mode.
I think the stimpacks healing over time is a pretty big difficulty boost. It's much, much harder to brute force your way through encounters.
but different healing items stack, stimpack might be a tad slow but stimpack + caravan lunch + dirty water + purified water + cram + etc shoots right back up
So true. Survival is def worth getting up to 80 or so (you can use a magazine + perk to get the last extra 20 if need be). Chow+stims are the only reason I survived any cazadores.
I rarely had issues with them (but when I did it generally resulted in a reload). Make sure that when you mess with em you're standing somewhere they can't reach or you snipe like a god. Mid-way through the game I could them down before they closed with vats, a tooled up sniper rifle, the +20% accuracy perk and wing shots.
Now caves and packs of Deathclaws: that shit got me killed more than anything else since I couldn't fight at maximum range.
True, fighting cazadores at range is a breeze. but when your PC is a revolver/lever action only man, things can get tricky.

Not really, just roll with lucky and handload ammo. If you take the perk that gives you a + critical while wearing light armor and better criticals you can down a caz with a couple shots at even extreme ranges.
Preacher on
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

I know the deal on that combo. I was speaking to the fact that on hardcore/very hard that after the blam x6 you have to do the run around reload dance and that is when stims+food+ high survival saves your butt when fighting enemies that are in packs. No way you can kill a mob of 4 Cazadores with 6 shots.
Gatling Laser + Meltdown is my preferred insecticide
Really? Mine is fire and hollow point rounds. Speaking of fire, the Flamer made Vault 22 a breeze . Anytime I ever came close to a patch of grass, I just turned on the Flamer and watched as the spore carrier's health went down before they even got up.

I did the same thing for that vault, as soon as I found the room with the flamer sitting on a table and a bunch of flamer ammo strewn about. It was go-time. Every bit of green got burned the fuck up. My second playthrough, I was prepared with a modded flamer and a bunch of ammo for it. I felt like I should have had a *ping* every time something moved, Aliens-style.
"They're comin' outta the goddamn walls!"
As for cazadores, the best advice I read (from this forum, even) was to take out the wings. That's become my go-to strategy and when I see other people playing and cueing up VATS headshots on them, I cringe. If you've got limited shots/time before they're all up in your grill, go for the wings on the biggest one, then the closest, then something rapid-fire. or just fire, to bring it back to the quoted bit.

I actually just brought Veronica and ED-E with me, shot one to aggro it, then back up and let Veronica mess with it. Cazadores are pretty damn intimidating, so it's hard to forget I can take one down in a few shots.
Cazadores are a bitch when you're a melee character or have limited ammo or low-cap weapons.
I remember one game where I was being chased by a pack of them (I was pretty low level), and my strategy was to keep wing-shotting them whenever I had action points, running backwards through the northern burned-out-farms. I believe that I almost killed them all before I got incinerated by aliens (damn you, Wild Wasteland!).
Okay I'd like to see how his story plays out in the DLC though I'm not fond of DLC so I might just wait until they're al bundled together and grab that for a fairly decent price.
Still the Burning Man is the one thing that might get me back into the game, couldn't do a second play through, maybe all the runs through FO3 kind of killed me on the game style, NV itself felt more like an expansion itself then a true sequel but the story of the burned man was what caught my interest in NV and I was disappointed he didn't show up.

If it's any consolation, if it weren't aliens, it would be a guy with the Gauss Rifle Variant and his henchmen.

Yeah, I know. It's just the indignity of getting killed by aliens. I was so sick of them after Mothership Zeta.
Started a new FO:NV game last night just for this.
Currently making a dash for Gunrunners to see if what their cheapest awesome gun is. If I can get an assault carbine or sniper rifle I'll be set for a bit.

Yaaay, my proper save game with my best character and the one that I've done everything with is in a constant loading loop when I select it. Cheers, Obsidian!

I mean, the expedition leader got gunned down in the ambush mentioned in the explanations online, then my goal became to retrieve the map, then go back to the entrance area and go through the "cave" which took me back to the Mojave.... then I got an ending reel... I guess I was supposed to keep the guy alive? but for an entire plot-line to revolve around one guy's survivability in a situation where allied NPCs are bound to die... that would be just retarded.

Okay so after a mad dash to the official forums the long/indefinite load screen seems to be caused by the number of DLC packs installed. Some have reported as long as the total number of DLC present is less than 4 (aka honest hearts+ dead money + 1 perorder/item pack) it shouldn't happen. If you have 4, which means two item packs, then it may not load. Can anyone verify/deny?
Edit: this info comes from one of the board mods.
And also there is a bug with Ed-E. If she glitched out of your New Vegas game and is still 'following you' according to the game, you can't start Honest Hearts. That seems to be unfix-able as its a base problem with New Vegas. Load new char or older save.

Looks like HH just got lost in the L.A. Noire shuffle. might get round to it after I finish with DX3.

The save for my character won't let me use the right analogue stick since patch.
At all.
It's fine for other games. It's fine for new games of FO:NV with a new character. But for my lvl 35 save, I can't use the right analogue stick.
What the hell? That's my only save. I don't wanna have to start all over. Anyone else get this?
Not happening to my old save... hmm, interesting bug though.
