I'm saying that those problems aren't nearly as big as you make them out to be.

Maybe it's because I play on PC, and the graphics in MW2 are still pretty stellar

Uh.... graphics.... the graphics are all stellar. I really don't care if the graphics get better. I would just like smoother walking animations. The janky jank, is most likely netcode related.
Please don't focus on the graphics aspect of my post, it was an ironic social commentary on mainstream gaming audiences. My bad.

You're absolutely right and I think that exposes exactly where my frustration comes from.
There is no shooter in that old school style anymore.

I'd love to see another Rainbow Six, or Counter-Strike, but I have a feeling that even if such a game were made it would suffer with mediocre netcode/server support on XBL.
I don''t think I can run away to a Battlefield game because of all the vehicles and air support there. It's all very similar.
What's funny is that despite never liking Halo, I really enjoy Reach. It has the slower movement speed and better hit detection I crave while avoiding the chopper gunner and perk driven aspects of CoD.

I really don't hate the Call of Duty franchise, but I know it's hard to have a real discussion about anything on the internet. Used to be able to debate and discourse here on Penny-Arcade without this childish "Your opinion is WROOOONG" nonsense.

I believe that if a magical iteration of CoD came out that matched all my wishes and wants, subconciously or otherwise, Call of Duty fans and even Senshi would love the game and feel that it's not different at all from what makes Modern Warfare what it is.
I'm not asking for it to be a different game.

In fact, I may not whine about the movement speed as much if the hit detection were a little better. That might be netcode or something else, I'm not sure.
Everyone is aware of the way the recent CoD games 'skip' bullets when you're shooting? It depends on the gun you're using I think (which is why some weapons are better than others inexplicably) but the first bullet you fire is registered on the server and the third bullet, but the second bullet in a 3 shot burst is essentially a blank. Drives me crazy.
Maybe if that changed, I might not whine about other things so much. I don't know.

I just hope for a new engine and cross my fingers for whatever that new engine brings to the table.
We've had about 4 or 5 games running on the exact same tech now, I think it's probably time to do SOMETHING new with the base engine.
The in-engine cutscenes they were showing in that trailer looked a little... prettier? I didn't see anything in real motion so I can't tell if the game with have a different feel as far as running, aiming, shooting, hitting...
    We'll see, right?

If you want to play online shooters these days there isn't much choice, that's why I have to hope that Call of Duty gets better. Counter-Strike is gone.

It isn't that your opinion is wrong.

It's that you facts are wrong.

    Salmon'd for lies.

And, yeah, they do need a new non-CoD4 game engine.

But at least it looks like they are using the MW/MW2 version of the engine rather than the W@W/Blops engine, so that already makes the graphics complaint better. Since MW2 still looks better than Blops. (And has better sound than Blops) And, yes, the netcode for the MW/MW2 engine is also better than the W@W/Blops engine.

CoD, and more specifically the Modern Warfare series of games were never meant to be realistic military shooters, they are arcade shooters with mostly real-world weapons. They're made to feel more like an action movie than real life, and that's why I enjoy them.

Regarding the engine, a new one is really what CoD needs, but like someone else posted at least the IW version is better than the abortion that they were forced to give Treyarch.

As far as CoD needing a new engine: I don't see the need, MW2 is very purdy. I'll never understand why Treyarch doesn't use the MW engine...

MW2 still looks good. I'd rather have BF3 and MW3 fighting for the best netcode rather than who has the slightly prettier helmet renders while scholars debate the appropriate amount to lead your target due to lag.

Graphics aren't really why I think a new engine is needed, netcode is. IW's version is frustrating at best, and the earlier version that Treyarch was given to use for their CoD games is downright bad. That, and the games are starting to get a bit stale.

Other franchises have developed new engines for their titles between new console generations, and Activision could as well if they were to allow the CoD developers to work on a 3-year cycle. Which I already know will never happen. They're just going to keep beating the series to death until consumers get sick of it, same as Guitar Hero.

    Man.

CoD has the best movement of all FPS'ers I've played.

That is the entire reason I play CoD. Because the movement is so smooth.

I mean, yeah, Treyarch fucked up their 'lag compensation' system super bad. Like, terrible hard they fucked that pooch in the ass. But the Gameplay is spot on exactly what I want, wrt movement/aiming/shooting mechanics.

Edit: If they add in a cover system I will never buy another Activision game.

They got one, it's called GET BEHIND SOMETHING PEOPLE ARE SHOOTING AT YOU.

Not so effective sometimes due to bullet penetration, though.

MW 2 looks better, but the animations are funnier. BLOPS seems to have smoother animations. Some of the reload and walking animations in MW2 just look unreal.

Most of them are due to the fact its a console and have nothing to do with the control scheme though. The only problem is auto aim is needed to a certain degree but that leads to quick scoping. Can't think of any others that are caused by the gimped controls.
