Death, Taxes and Games

Here is something I posted on the xbox forums. This was my first post, and I thought you guys might like it. I follow your site with what might to others seem like religious fervor, but I am merely a simple fan. Enjoy.

Here is a subject that has recently been on my mind and probably not one that occurs to the average gamer. My gamer wife recently died leaving few regrets but a couple of games unfinished, notably The Beatles: Rock Band and You Don't Know Jack. It's rough, but I've been putting her affairs in order. Her games remain unfinished, but I hope to finish them in her name. But in-between these things I've found time to play my own games, and it occurred to me after spending literally hours trying to beat Sorin Markov for the umpteenth time in Magic the Gathering (even on wuss mode) that there is an outside chance that I may die before beating him. Is this how I want to spend my last unproductive hours? Beating my head against this figurative wall? And this is after I spent my hard earned dollars on this electronic money pit? We all play games to win, not to do this. I can understand the people at Stainless Games that they need to make the games challenging, but totally impossible to win? Now I've seen many posts from people saying they've beaten him, but just as many posts expressing frustration at not beating him. I've also seen many postings by people who may or may not be trolls berating those not able to beat him. I may not have the time to parse out the good posts, bad posts, or otherwise, and I am not seeking help in this situation. I am simply pointing out that no one knows the time of their death, and so no one has the time to waste on unproductive things. So, unless anyone else has any better suggestions, I'm going to get rid of this and all other impossible games from my life and move on to other games that I can win. Games that have no ending, like tabletop roleplaying games that have no ending I can live with. Projects that I may not get to finish, I can live with. Things I may never get to do because of life's intrusions, I can live with. But not this. So, an open message to the people who make games, either make a super wuss mode so people can beat them and get on with their lives, or look at posts online detailing their frustration at not beating a particular part of the game. I await a response from others who either like, hate or otherwise have strong feelings on this subject. I especially await responses from the people at Xbox, Stainless Games, or anyone else in the game development business who may feel a need to reply to this. I will give your response serious consideration.

Welcome to the Penny-Arcade forums, penarvaf!

To get the most out of your experience, you might want to familiarize yourself with the rules and guidelines posted in the sticky threads at the top of the forum, and lurk for a while in the threads that look interesting to you before making a new thread right out of the gate.

That said, if you're trying to get in touch with the people who made this video game, I think you'd have better luck with their corporate website than an unaffiliated forum.
