Anyone ever purchase mp3s from Amazon? I'm considering purchasing an album, but not if there's some crazy DRM bullshit that I have to wade through. I want to purchase the mp3s, download them and use them on any computer/device I own. Can I do that with Amazon's service, or is there some caveat where I have to use their player or the mp3s spontaneously combust after 4 plays or something?
Thanks in advance.

Amazon MP3s are DRM-free. The one caveat is that there are no re-downloads.

I love amazon for mp3 downloads; I always go there first, and if they have a song I will always buy it from there. DRM-free, no required player (unless you count "one that can play mp3s"), and if you back up your music the "no re-downloads" thing isn't much of a problem.

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn
It doesn't matter anymore, because when you buy from Amazon.com, the default is that the MP3s are saved to Amazon's "Cloud Drive," like schuss has been saying. You then log in to Cloud Drive to listen or download the MP3s. So they're automatically backed up.
Bought the album. Did the cloud drive. Free upgrade to 20GB. Downloaded files locally. Smooth as silk. Worried for nothing. Unbelievably smooth transaction. Super happy me.

Thanks guys. Ceres, you can lock this now if you so desire.
I haven't checked in several years though, so it's possible they changed that policy.
Just go cloud drive. Infinite free re-downloads.
I got two albums, and have had no problems playing on laptops (Ubuntu, Mac) or phone.
But yes, DRM free, high quality audio files.
Seriously. I have bought a couple things that I didn't back up, which was disappointing. Infinite redownloads off your cloud storage is amazing.
