The only complaint I have with spines is that they take to long to build. If you have them positioned correctly they can be a great defensive asset against a lot of things. The real problem is that you basically can't drop them reactively. You could see an army leave your opponents base on cross position taldarim and I think your crawlers still would be building when they got there.
I spent about 6 months away from SC2 with the holiday game season and I have been back into this a lot for a couple weeks now. I switched from terran to zerg and switched to grid hotkeys, it's been a multilevel learning curve where I went all out and did all my learning on the ladder. I bombed out of gold and sank deep into silver, but as I get less worse now I am seeing some good results climbing in rank and winning more consistently. It's finally starting to feel good.
hmm something that just occurred to me, you can research the strike cannon start its use on something and cancel it with escape key and use up your thors energy so it doesnt get feedbacked as bad

I would like it if those not interested in playing in the tournament could cast for the CSL, as our regular casters Enigma, Kambing, and kedinik are three people who I'd love to have actually playing.
Once again, please don't be discouraged from entering as a lower-league player! (Plat->below) Your participation is still greatly welcomed and encouraged.
@MNC Dover - when you get a chance, could you put the tournament in the OP and info about it in the title? Cheers
I would actually love to attempt to cast this. Terribly.
I feel like my 3gate build can pump out a comparable number of units to a 4gate for the initial push (less reinforcements warped in over time of course) without the stink of all-in cheese. Having only three gates means you can easily transition to a safe expansion if you don't win outright on the initial push. I'm not sure how it will stand up in PvP against a 4gate though. I could probably be really aggressive with my first four units and try to stop the proxy, I guess.

I bought a new mousepad today and it's amazing what a difference it makes. So much more accurate and easy to move around!
I finally broke my losing streak after started using a speedling expand to open up with in most match-ups. I'm hoping that my rating won't go up faster than my mechanics improve because if I tried this junk on actual platinum players (not silver and gold like I've been playing) I would probably get trashed.
one of the best ways to improve, though it can be a bit of a douche move, is to play at a much much lower level than your actual current skill level, and play no cheese builds and never make a move to end games, always defend defend and force macro games by playing safe and solid. That was what I did to make the push from Diamond to Masters as Protoss. tanked my rating down to Bronze (before Blizzard started banning for such), and did nothing but fast expand builds in PvZ and PvT. You play a lot better when you're not worried about losing at all, which is conducive to a good learning environment. Playing 50 games at a low level with safe builds will immeasurably improve your basic mechanics.
tl;dr - If you want to improve quickest on the ladder, stop using cheese or 1base builds entirely, and stop playing your games to win. Instead, play them to "not die". Just defend everything your opponent throws at you, and wait for them to make a mistake that gives you an insurmountable lead before you end the game.
I'd been trying to do the Spanishiwa style build of the super late gas, but I was getting my ass handed to me by cheese nearly every game. I don't use cheese because I don't find much reward in winning a 5 minute game (unless I'm crushing someone who tried to all-in me) and because I want to become a better player. I started going speedling expand so that my build was slightly safer against cheese because it was happening literally every other game at least. After I have a few speedlings out, I typically just revert back to drones/queens/spines at my base until I'm ready to take gas and my third and start economically devouring my opponent.

I'd like to try my hand at casting if we wanted to have two duos. I couldn't stream it or record it due to computer limitations, but I have a mic and lots of enthusiasm! If we don't want to do that, I'm more than okay with playing as well.

You can take some of the concepts from spanishiwa and incorporate it into other builds. If you feel like you really need speed to handle cheese at a certain timing just incorporate one gas into the build to get speed out and pull drones back off gas until later. Also you can utilize creep spread with slowlings instead of speed in some scenarios.

I'm definitely fine with getting more people involved, I'm sure we could figure something out among all us would-be casters. I'm working out the kinks of streaming, but my only hesitation is that I still rock a 4:3 monitor, so no HD for the spectators. You guys think that would be okay or do we want to find someone who's streaming widescreen?

I can stream widescreen, but if you can cast at all, we might need you to partner up with someone who can't but still wants to cast. If we have extra people rocking the 16:9 (or the 16:10 for some of you weirdos) then you can just pair up with someone on the HD front.

response to the recent SC2 patch.

Oh my.. Kedinik has jumped to #2 in the PA 1v1 Rankings, congrats!
Yes, the same Kedinik that got Dhal-pwned.
Maybe he was playing one-handed? ^^'
rankings are done by points accumulated, and by league.
Dangerisk has the highest win% at a ridiculous 68.97%, followed by Lemming at 66.67% with an incredible 2-1 score. (edit: win% can only be calculated for Masters as that's the only league that still lets you see the number of losses you have)
I still have no idea who Mizak is.... but he's good
also wish losses where still visible so a win/loss % could be calculated
=\
Got on auto-pilot and forgot to wall off vs Zerg.... of course he hits me with a 6pool. I pull probes off the line and manage to fend him off, but he does serious eco damage to me so we're pretty even overall. Stay calm, execute my build (with third gateway much delayed since I only had enough income to support 2). He keeps drilling my front with ling/roach pushes, but I fend him off, macro up, and win with a 2base deathball push
Crazy games are fun.
