Okay, so far the game has been great, a few technical problems due to 3d vision and some sound problems, but I love the settings. But now I got the feeling something didnt work quite right...
In act 1, I captured Iorveth during the meet with the Kingslayer - Roche told me several times while going back to Flotsam "We have Iorveth, this changes everythign". Then after I went to kill the Commandante of Flotsam, suddenly Roche tells me he had a slight hold up before he and his Commando could help me in front of the Building, and I see a flashback where I play Roche, suddenly Iorveth isn't captured at all, but is free and fighting Roche, only to loose and be rescued by his archers, because Roche doesn't kill him (Iorveth on the ground, helpless, can be killed in 2 seconds - Roche: "Damn, your archers aproach... you are lucky" *waits 10 seconds, does nothing*). What the hell happened there?

Just stand next to your friendly npcs who are not on fire? Follow along with them and kill everything that moves. If you don't do both these things, you'll die.

Act One : Melitele's Heart. Question:
Where is the Arachas Eye and the Endrega Fetus? If I have already done the Endrega Queen quest presumably I've missed them, cause it's not letting me loot the egg sacs.

Does that mean the whole quest is a wash now? Can these things be bought anywhere?

This game is so cool with 3D Vision, but it's on my alienware laptop with a GTX460M, so I have to turn off a LOT of pretty to get enough frames to make 3D run smooth enough to be playable.

Makes me want to swap out my Dual 5870s in my desktop for a pair of 560s

I only said that though so he would be more likely to let me out. What is my motivation to hunt this killer? As far as I can tell Geralt didn't even like the king.

That the entire kingdom would be after Geralt's head, after all the killing of the king has been pinned on the White Wolf. Also Geralt recognises the chap who killed the king (or just noted his cat like eyes, which are similar to his own. . . )
From what we can glean from the first game, Witchers are rather possessive about the alchemical secrets that give one witcher abilities and concerned when a witcher goes off the grid or rogue too. Geralt had unpleasant experiences with a rogue witcher and witcher-like mutants in the first game on top of a need to clear his name so he can go back to making witching money.

Even if it's just money, I feel like my save is contaminated. If I restart fresh without importing, then I feel like I'll miss out on some content. If I replay the first game, then I have to go through 40 hours of tedium and my copy of the second game will be teasing me on my desk all the while. Sigh. I could offload all the money on some shop or dice table, though that would take awhile, but I read from someone who did this that the money showed up again in the second chapter (don't know if this is true, though).

I want to punch the cocksucker in the mouth for hacking his save and uploading it.
Assuming you want to do Triss / Order the save I'm using is perfect, it hasn't been mucked about with in any way and it's exactly as if I used one of my own from my old machine - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4LGSJGAZ

Removing them from the OP may have been a bit drastic. After checking the seven saves previously posted in thread, only one of them had 245k. The others were all around 5k-20k, though I'm guessing the big money one was popular - neutral/Triss.

Anyway, I ran through them quickly and set them all at 15k gold, a bit less than the 20k you get at game end, and packed them together. I haven't tried any of them so I have no idea about anything more than the faction/lady decisions which are reported from their original posting.

If you're planning to spend the weekend with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings -- in lieu of bracing for the impending hellfire, of course -- make sure you've got enough space on an NTFS-formatted hard drive to do it. Though the game's PC system requirements note you'll need "16GB of disc space," they don't mention you'll need that space to be on an NTFS drive.

One Joystiq reader found out the hard way, telling us, "My only hard drive with any storage space left on it is FAT32, and has resisted attempts to reformat. I discovered this hidden system requirement after buying The Witcher 2, downloading it, and attempting to install it this morning."

CD Projekt confirmed the situation to us this morning. Community manager Andrzej Kwiatkowski said, "Yes, we can confirm that The Witcher 2 on Windows systems only works on NTFS-formatted drives." Kwiatkowski further explained that the design is due to the limitations of the older FAT32 system. "FAT32 can't handle any file bigger than 4GB, and one of TW2's files has the size of 9GB."

I know this is the Witcher 2 thread but I have a Witcher question.

I won't be buying Witcher 2 until later the year when it's cheapy cheap, but I still have the enhanced edition witcher 1 waiting to be finished.

I have played through what I imagine is a fair portion of the first city and the swampy area. I know a lot of people say the game is pretty bad in the beginning, and I would not disagree, but that it gets dramatically better soon after.

When exactly does this happen? Am I still in the shit part or is this supposed to be peaches and cream by now? Because I'm finding it utterly tedious and barely interesting enough to offset how janky and shoestring the game feels.

The swamp is just the worst possible shit. I recently resumed my TW1 play, thinking my Ch3 save was probably done with all those hours spent in the swamp in Ch2 and earlier in Ch3, but I still ended up making like 7 goddamn trips back before I was done.

Anyway, it becomes more interesting in Ch3, and by halfway through you'll have leveled enough that you're basically a god, making combat an awesome display of running into a crowd of twenty enemies and surrounding yourself with a halo of fire before whipping your sword around and cutting down every dude simultaneously. Awesome.

I just started Ch4 and it looks even more interesting.

He's always dreamed of that epic duel, and it probably didn't go to plan.

I still can't decide between swordsmanship and magic. This is such a hard choice! Do I want to be a whirling dervish of death or engage in more tactical combat with magical traps, hexes and buffs? Agh, I have no idea. They're both fun.

Purely on the font of power, I think magic beats swordsmanship since bigger numbers cannot really match the wide variety of control offered by signs. Even if you focus on signs you are still a swordsman at heart, just one who deals a bit less damage.

Swordsman does get you the amazing thing of being able to hit multiple opponents, which knocks them back. You just need a few points into quen, and not only are you cutting up bitches, but when they try to cut you, they wound not only themselves, but their friends too. I'm going mostly swordsman for this run.

    Also, group finishers.

By the way, near the end of Chapter 2, they pretty much give you talent points every 30 seconds. I was level 14 a couple of hours ago, and now I am level 26, compared to the small increase in chapter 1.

Edit: Beaten, and I don't even have a video to show for it.

While I'm a mostly a dolt when it comes to the sword play (I do a lot of running/rolling away instead of parrying) the combat still seems fair. Like Demon Souls, when I lose it's because I fucked up, not because the AI was cheating.

Really loving the game so far though. I did restart to get the abilities mention earlier in the thread. And I'm debating if I should peak into the game guide at all while playing or just wing it and hope for the best.

Note: People who say the ending is lackluster/bad are delusional (way to miss the point of the story), and were also likely the people who found the combat confusing/bad/unwieldy.

This is getting ridiculous. I have died more times on this f'ing tutorial than I have in my last 5 RPG complete games combined. I am pitted against dozens of soldiers, 3-4 at a time, who kill me in as many hits as I can kill them, in environments where it's easy to be surrounded, while a f'ing dragon flies around randomly flaming me to death whenever I cross from one area to another.

That's the prologue. The f'ing PROLOGUE. My tutorial so far has been "press 1 to draw your sword, press 1 again to sheathe it".

I swear to God I'm not a bad gamer. My BF2 team ranked 2nd in CAL and 4th in TWL. I played competitive Tribes and BC2. I know twitch. I know how to kill mans. I know RPGs, too. Beaten everything from Planescape and Arcanum to Oblivion and Two Worlds II. I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO SUCK AT VIDEO GAMES.

This game is just ridiculous in its approach to and implementation of combat. I swear the developers hate people.
