Well, I put a few hours into War Thunder tonight. I need to check to make sure posting 'impressions' won't break nda. I don't think so. The box I clicked through seemed to only mention screenshots and videos. But better safe then sorry. Once I figure that out I'll post some impressions.
Edit: Yuplay eula has a section on beta software that pretty much prohibits impressions. Oh well. If ya'll have a invite I'd check it you. Doesn't cost ya anything.

I think that means you just can't do unflattering impressions of the developers.
I got an invite for it, still haven't decided if i want to install it to test since I'm still on my DayZ kick. I'm not into the arcade style sims after being spoiled by hardcore sims.

has anyone from North America tried using that? Its still outside of my buy range at the moment, but curious is if works.

I haven't, but it has a drop-down to ask you what your region is. Maybe it's a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" kind of deal. I guess it could compare to your payment details, but why ask for your region to begin with? You could probably just use Paypal. I'm able to at least get to the end of using Paypal without any problem, but I can't afford to buy it right now.

Has anyone heard about Silent Hunter Online? Sounds kinda cool. Looks like it's a F2P browser based game. I applied for the beta.
hadn't heard about it. Last SH I played was 3. I'll give it a go. I just read that you have to buy time compression credits with RL money. Interesting choice... but i'll probably take a look at it and put it aside. But may as well give it a shot.

Oh, if that's the case, I probably won't play it very long. Don't really want to spend a week traveling out to the English channel.

Saw it at PAX, but didn't have a chance to play it. I wasn't particularly impressed by what I saw though.
I did get some hands-on time with World of Warplanes. It's still in closed beta, and currently only has a 3rd-person view, although the person I talked to said that a cockpit view is "on the way." Flight model seemed like typical H.A.W.X. or Blazing Angels style relaxed realism. It's possible to sort of stall if you really, really try, rudder is way too effective, and most turns tend to be of the "Roll 90 degrees and pull full up elevator" variety.
Probably the worst part was that both Damage Inc. and World of Warplanes were using this new stick from MadKatz, the AV8R. Which looks cool, but is absolutely terrible. Making half the buttons into toggle switches, then putting the split throttle on the opposite end of the stick meant that in practice, I either couldn't use half the buttons, or couldn't use the throttle. Avoid like the plague.
Those are just toggle switch style buttons: pushing it up is one button, pushing it down in the other.
I actually have one of the first models of the AV8R (when it was called the Aviator), and it was a really, really nice stick. It just developed a left lean that I wasn't able to fix in any way.
Mech, I realize they're just buttons styled like toggle switches, I did try to use them while playing World of Warplanes. Maybe I'm just spoiled because my rig is a 9-year-old CH Products Combatstick, Pro Throttle, and Pro Pedals that do everything I want and are overbuilt like industrial equipment.

Is it worth $10?

Heads up for all you Take On Helicopters whirlybirders.
The TKOH Rearmed DLC has just been released. It's a free DLC that adds ArmA 2 content to TKOH.
Can I get a Hell YEAH?!
Also the Take On Noisecontrollers DLC has been added to Steam as well. It's a free DLC that focuses on some really balls out Time Trials, features some new music and a few other fluffy bits. If you enjoy the Time Trials then you'll love this.

I wondered why it updated yesterday. That's pretty awesome. I was wondering when that ARMA 2 DLC was coming out. Will have to give it a spin this weekend.

I wish I had time, as I saw the 17gig update, and was wondering what it was doing.
edit: also, sorry for my lack of flying - the PC release of Dark Souls reignited my love for that game.. and now X-Com is coming out soon so I'll be sucked into that. It's a wonderful time for gamers! Tons of great stuff to play.

Honestly, I haven't played it yet. There was someone when it first came out saying it wasn't bad, but required using some mods to fix some annoying things or something. I think it's supposed to be really easy to mod.
There's a good sale going on here. Choose 2 of the following for $25: Blackshark 2, A-10c, Il-2 CloD, Wings of Prey, Take on Helicopters, and Hind dlc for take on. Real good deal if you're looking to pick up the DCS game or Il-2.
Very cool. Wonder if it will get a sale near the winter sale. I'll certainly grab it at some point (actually never played the flaming cliffs games but hear they are good:) Seems it requires FC2 to work..... seems like a very strange choice but I didn't look into it to much. Just caught my attentino.

It's something to do with the licensing. I don't know why they couldn't just drop the Flaming Cliffs name and go about their business, but there's probably more to it than I know.
So I've been told that saitek finally updated their profile software/drivers for the x52 and now apparently it plays nice with win7 x64. Looks like I'll finally be able to use my x52 in all it's glory, hurray!

What problems did it have before? I haven't really noticed anything other than slight wonkiness here and there.

Wait, would that be the reason that it used to handle like rolling a rock on top of my arrow keys? Because if this thing can handle subtle/twitch movements now, I'll be very happy.

Seems the time compression points refill every 24 hours, but you will likely be able to buy more if you want it faster.
