And I don't think the HD Collections will go to the Cafe because the Cafe isn't coming until, at earliest, April 2012. I think the Collections will be out before then and bringing out Cafe versions at that point will be a bit redundant. And why bother even releasing MGS3DS at that point?
Unco, I'm usually down with your assessments... but c'mon. You mean to tell me that Konami, more than willing to port the old MGS games over to these two systems, wouldn't be find it profitable to repackage them some more on a newer system? Not only would it be a nice cash-in, but then they can haphazardly throw in the "showing support for Cafe" bullshit excuse, too!

After all, what's missing from these collections.

    MGS 1
    The Twin Snakes
    MGS2: Substance
    Portable Ops
    Guns of the Patriots

Throw that up against the 3DS's, ahem, "support" with MGS3 and you've got the whole kit-n-kaboodle of the MGS series. Hell, after that press event, I'm sure they're jumping at the gun to shove old classics on to the console.

I disagree. I think by the time the Cafe comes out, any excitement over the ports will have completely died off because they'll have already been out on PS3/360 (plus Vita probably) for months if not a year by then. There just won't be much of a market for them at that point, especially with all the PS3/360 ports the Cafe will be flooded with at launch.

I'm not ruling it out entirely, Nintendo could pull it out as a bit of a surprise similar to MGS3DS last year, I just think it's pretty unlikely.

Oh and I don't think any of the games you listed will be ported anytime soon. Well apart from MGS2 Substance, but that's because it'll be in the MGS HD Collection.

I'm not sure why you think having excitement will matter. Plenty of people are not excited at all about the HD ports even though they've just been announced (though I can't claim to be one of them), but that's not stopping the creation of these games.

I mean, can you really put a statute of limitations on HD remakes? The games themselves are going to be old by their very nature. Yet we've seen countless examples of the re-selling of games in many forms--whether via digital download or repackaged discs. The fact that having an uptapped audience somewhere, anywhere, out there is going to be enough to convince companies to make money by hitting those markets.

It's clear to me the people at Konami have some business sense since they're bringing out a record number of HD collections. Just look to the fact that they're bringing out these collections on both systems as to the reason why. $$$. And once the work is done, bridging the content becomes even less of a hassle.

The games I listed were picked for a simple reason: they aren't on the HD collections. They have the opportunity to do exactly what they're doing right now all over again by offering slighty different games. Metal Gear is Metal Gear. There's a loyal fanbase. Gotta buy 'em all.

I don't know what the HD collections are going to go for, but bear in mind that Nintendo is releasing OoT again for, what 40 dollars? Konami is not exactly going Scrooge McDuck on us.

I don't know, man. Do I need Metal Gear Solid on yet another system?

When there's currently no system on the market that can play them, yes.
