I'm talking important things, like if they say the release date well that's going right into the OP+title, same with when those September beta thingamajig's happen.
Aren't we a bit premature in discussing the next thread? We still have 10 pages left in this one.
Well, see, right now we're engaging in some speculation about the contents to the next thread. We only have limited info, but we know how we want it to be, how we hope it will be.
I for one, will be disappointed if the next thread doesn't bring awesome endgame right out the gate.
Don't see what's wrong with spending those ten pages talking about the next thread.
Those flashpoint clips got me a bit more worried about the game's difficulty. Just watching that giant droid blast the crap out of a caster Inquisitor and they don't come close to death.
I liked Pazaak. Anything that augments the culture of a game, where there's more to do than walk a leveling treadmill I applaud. It's too bad something like it was not included in the game.
I facepalmed on the "how about something in a higher register" bit in the video. Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese. Sith are just so utterly fromage. ePeen Pop Collar Club. I can't wait to kill them.

I'm hoping that within the first 3 months they will add hard-modes to the flash points. I mean, if there's only 3 FPs right now, they might as well make good use of the existing assets. Re-balancing all 3 of them for end-game hard modes seems like a fairly time/cost efficient way to add some extra replayability to the end game.

They can't do that though. Why on earth would anyone want to run low level instances just scaled up once they hit max level. Especially if they are the only 3 in the game. BW would get slammed with complaints and it would look soooo lazy. Think DA2, I was insulted that every area was just one of 5 maps used over and over again.

I think you're getting Flashpoints confused with Warzones. There's 3 warzones according to the betacake leakers.
But for Flashpoints:
Q : Are there more flashpoints then those on the main site? If so how many more?
Yes. Currently, there's one for each faction around level 10, two for each faction around level 30, and two for each faction around level 47.
There is also a “heroic” flashpoint available at level 50, which to a large degree ties together the stories from the previous ones.
Now, BioWare isn't actually TELLING us where to find these, so it's very possible that there are more level 50 flashpoints people haven't found yet.
3 Flashpoints is really not very many for each side. I suppose they want that to be made up for with the world group quests, but it seems like the flashpoints are supposed to be awesome (even if they are a bit easy right now.) I wonder if they're holding back on a flashpoint to surprise people with. Unfortunately that opens themselves up to the risk of not heavily testing that flashpoint until way late.
I'm also hoping for hard modes on all instances, but for the time being just having more than three should be priority. At the same time, I can't help but think of instances that players only get a small window of levels to play are a pretty big waste of developer resources.

I did not watch the video, but I liked what they had to say about difficulty in one of the Comic Con Q&As:
I know there's a thread on the boards right now that they're talking about they're worried that we're going to make the game too easy. That's actually the opposite of what we're trying to do right now, especially with the death system. We want to make, one of the things about game design is you want to make a game challenging, but not too challenging. If it's too challenging, players get frustrated. If it's not challenging enough, players get too bored. And most massively multiplayer games are balanced, right now, in the modern day, to the too easy so you can easily get bored. In the past, massively multiplayer games have been balanced to the that they're too hard and you get frustrated when you die and have to run for 5 hours to get back to your corpse. So we're trying to make it so that it's similar to it's almost like a reload so we can have those more difficult fights where you have to think about it and rethink your strategy, where you're like, well I just went in there and that didn't work, I'm going to try it again. And then maybe you have to wait a minute and then you might have to try it a third time.
There's apparently 2 whole planets that haven't been opened or talked about yet that have endgame content in them, so hopefully their plans for that are waiting in the wings.
I'd say they have a firm release date in mind now, but they don't want to announce it until Gamescom, PAX, or closer to the actual date. It is in EA's interest to give Blizzard as little advanced notice as possible so they can't interfere with the launch by dropping a new WoW patch or Diablo 3 beta.
And lame. Looks like they took down the leaked screenshots of item customization.
They actually said they're going to wait until after the September testing weekends before setting a release date. Just to make sure there are no glaring issues or surprises.

Hello everyone! We have some more information regarding subscription payment options.
Currently, any payment method supported by EA in a particular country will be accepted for subscription payments for Star Wars: The Old Republic. This includes major credit cards. We will provide further information as we approach launch. As we have mentioned previously, if you choose to play on a server that is physically distant from your location, you may experience latency issues that impact your gameplay experience.
Thanks again for your continued patience as we continue to answer your questions and provide clarification on these topics.
They can't do that though. Why on earth would anyone want to run low level instances just scaled up once they hit max level.
Guess you didn't play RIFT or Cataclysm.
I didn't. I quit WoW during Wrath but before you got to fight Arthus. I was under the impression that cataclysm changed a lot of stuff and added reasons to go back to the original content. Did they really just scale it up or was there more?

Its very likely that Bioware has stuff in a near-complete state that will be a month1 release. Blizzard did this with Maraudon. That was the first content patch ever and it came out very close to release of the game. They were basically putting the finishing touches on it as the game launched.
A similar situation is possible with TOR. I've heard the 19 planet number before, prior to the comicon Q&A. So if Bioware is now saying 17, that means they've got 2 planets that they are holding back because they are not quite finished. But in situations like this, its very likely we will see them soon after release.

I also tried Rift for a weekend and hated it.
WoW has been doing heroics since TBC. Cataclysm just brought back some redone Vanilla instances as heroics, but the concept is no different.
TOR appears to have the exact same thing, although whether it applies to Flashpoints is unknown.

They may be hiding 2 planets, but the official reported count is 17 for release. Maybe they have 2 planets in the wings waiting for post-release, but the facts state that 19 was SR misspeaking, and that the official count for release is 17.

His health was dropping like crazy ( two hits put him around 50%) and was below 20% at the end of the fight. He used alot of heals to stay alive.

It still seem very lazy to do that and only have 3/5 per faction then reuse them. I mean, heroics didn't really bother me in TBC but I took a break during that so my first experiance was really in wrath. When you're only running instances you've done in the last 10 levels as heroics at max level and there's a lot of them to do, it doesn't bother me so much. And I guess in cataclysm it was more of a nostalgia thing. But wow also had an instance for every 3 or 5 levels. In some cases it was every 2 levels. I guess i really liked running instances and would like more.

Pretty much what Shyrke said, but to elaborate - Cataclysm did change a lot of the old content (including instances), that you could (re)experience leveling a new character, but they also added in heroics for a few of those instances.
Shadowfang Keep is a good example. Still an early level instance, though they've completely revamped parts of it. But they also have a max level Heroic version, that's quite a bit of fun. The boss fights are very different between the two versions, more challenging on Heroic mode, obviously.
But other than difficulty and loot, it's essentially the same instance.
3 Flashpoints is really not very many for each side.
1 @ level 10
2 @ level 30
2 @ level 47
Total of 5 for each faction spread out across levels. There is also apparently a 6th "hard mode" at Level 50.
I think you're thinking about Warzones... in which case there are 3 for each side.
5 Flashpoints Total. 3 for each side. The Empire won't be able to do Taral V or Esseles. Similarly, the Republic won't be doing Boarding Party or Black Talon.

Hopefully if there are Heroic Modes, both factions will have access to the two Flashpoints they missed out on leveling up. Sort of like in Rift where you don't necessarily do Realm of the Fae if you're Defiant, but have access to it as an Expert dungeon at endgame.
Pure hope/speculation on my part of course, as we dont' even know if Hardmodes will be available at all.

Isn't there a Big bold lettered title on that page saying "Here are just a few of the Flashpoints you'll experience in The Old Republic:"
that would seem to indicate they have more flashpoints, ready but not released for beta testing, or not quite ready but could be released after the game goes live.
I think it's a little foolish to speculate that the examples they've released are the only things we'll see on release day.
If they have more flashpoints they're sitting on, I'd be stoked to hear it, but indications from the beta testers in a few of the Q&As is that it's not the case. The beta testers are playing warzones that Bioware hasn't talked about, so it would seem logically consistent that any flashpoints they haven't talked about that are slated for launch would be in testing now too. Sure, they could put in flashpoints after release, but that could be said about basically anything, so that doesn't really mean anything at this point.
We might also need to accept that these are all the announced flashpoints for launch.
But I'd put good money, err, hard credits down that there will be more released in the weeks following the official release.
In the end, I want them to have a fun, balanced leveling game ready when I buy this. I'm ok with waiting 4-6 weeks after launch to get some more FPs if this is the case.
