Can anyone figure out what the fonts are in this sign? I've just finished sitting in photoshop cycling through all my fonts and whatever the top one is, I don't have it. It looks really damn familiar though.
One thing to consider is that those may not be "real fonts". They could be hand cut letters to make the sign, maybe based loosely on a nearby example of an actual font or a hand-drawn bit. When I get home I'll poke around what I've got, even if not dead on you should be to come up with something close.
The "ROADHOUSE" text could be any condensed sans serif with the height/width attributes mucked around with. You could probably get a very similar look out of impact or arial black.
The script isn't immediately familiar, but if it's as old as it looks it could easily be a custom piece.
Eat it You Nasty Pig. on
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
Yeah, I think I can come up with something pretty close to the Roadhouse font. It's that script that's bugging me. I swear I've seen that capital H before. I tried running it through identifont three or four times but none of the results match.
The sign was made for a TV show in 2007 and set in the same time, if that makes any difference.
None of the fanmade merch with a recreated sign on it has the right font, either, but I figure those people were just too lazy to do the research :P
I might just have to try to recreate it in Illustrator if all else fails.
The top neon sign may very well be made by hand. I saw a demo once where they were making signs like that with glass tubes and a blow torch. If I'm right, they may have used a font as a template, but there's no way it'll match up perfectly. The Illustrator trace is your best bet.
