How does the 360 wireless controller for windows shut off?

As far as I can see, the connection is broken when you turn off your pc, so the controller's ring just keeps blinking... or does it stop after a while?

I dont have a 360 so I dont know how this is supposed to work. I got that new receiver to allow you to use wireless controller with it.

It's only the shutting down part that I'm not getting.

Simply remove the battery cartridge from the controller. This method is even mentioned in the manual that came with your Xbox 360.
