Pissing Graffiti, AKA why does it have to be this way? [MUSIC/ART]

Hey guys. A while back I started making heavy music. I've always been into it. High School was the prog rock/death metal band. I went to college and started learning how to produce music and someone turned me onto Nine Inch Nails. I guess the rest is history. I've been dealing with cancer for a few years now and that's where Pissing Graffiti comes from.

Free Download/Stream at Bandcamp - http://music.pissinggraffiti.com/

I've always been pretty discontent with the world. The way people act, the way things are. I guess going through what I did just made me apathetic towards consequence. I've gotten some terrible reviews and some nicer ones, but they can't get past the NIN sound which, yes is hugely inspiring for me, but isn't the source of me.

I also work a lot with other artists (yay college) and love working outside of my medium. I designed the logo, album art, etc.. and would love feedback as far as that goes (facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/notsopg).

I struggle with finding it's identity in the world; the music and the purpose. On purpose. I donate 50% of all my meager profit to charity. It's small now but if I can ever make a living with this I'll be able to increase my impact. I look forward to working with kiva.org, but more importantly using tours as a means to impact the community I'm performing in. Have graffiti contests in the downtown areas. Introduce non-destructive types of street art. Work with community building programs and donate to them as well. 50%. Always.

So give me thoughts on the music, the art, the site. It's on Tumblr so feel free to follow if you're on there. The Socialize tab has all my other social places. Thinking about deleting MySpace...i mean do I really want people to go there to begin with? just more space =/

have a blessed one!

Thought I'd share a funny music video I did. I remixed this Snoop Dogg/Kid Cudi track; kept the vocals and redid everything else. Then decided to just have fun.

    [ps, how do I embed?]

Does anybody have problems browsing/going to my website. It's Tumblr hosted, with custom sub-domain, but for some reason I always have to clear my cache and refresh 5 times before it goes.

My host guys are telling me it's my problem but... =/ works on other comps in network, mobile devices, and this computer was just freshly reinstalled.

Music gets a much slower response around here unfortunately, most of us are visual art types. Im more of an ambient person, so it might speak to my biases, but I really liked the first track And was subsequently really not into the rest of the album. The first track has some interesting build up and foreboding mood without being ham-fisted with it. The other tracks just feel sort of unrefined and angry to me, like 90s hardcore rock.

Of course, if you like NIN, this is somewhat correct, but the remix of the kid cudi/snoop song tells me theres more influence than that. (I actually really like the remix) I dont really know how to talk about music without my own personal bias, because I know nothing about the technical aspects of it, so sorry if this is of no help at all.

Art wise, the video does nothing for me. I love the album cover, but I think you went overboard on the distortion for the website banner.

Iruka your comments are more than welcome.

If you like more ambient stuff you might like the last two tracks (don't know if you got that far). yea, I get a lot of people tell me the same reaction you had. Angry 90's =/ lol. I'm workin on it though!

You're right there are a lot more influences; from Bian Eno to Slipknot and MIA. My brother tells me I need to listen to more MIA and see how I could incorporate some of that sound too.

And the web banner 0.o agreed. I think I'm going to go back to just this - http://cl.ly/0N0X0x1d0X3q3H1X371v and change the menu buttons and background. I wanted it to be strange, and had the idea to change it all the time but... eh bad is bad and it's been bugging me.

Again, thanks for your input! It's really appreciated.

Also - on ambient, I do other stuff under my own name - which I hesitate tying together with my forum name but...I'll PM you =)

The ambient album is much more interesting to me. Its composed and just overall pleasant to listen to. I would love to see the two styles come together a little more. The ambient album reminds me a lot of Lemon Jelly in certain parts, where the sound bits are mixed in and it has a little more structure. If you want a whole host of ways to approach trip-hop/ambient/electronica, I would check out anyone under the ninja tune label http://soundcloud.com/ninja-tune-xx That stuff is from their anniversary collection (its actually stuff from that album rearranged), but there's a bunch of stuff and artists in older compilations.

Do you have photoshop or illustrator? I would try and make a vector of the original handwritten pissing graffiti

thanks! and you hit the nail. I DO have so many influences but I don't know what to do with them all to bring them together. The ideologies of tracks like 1938 and Kowka fit perfectly with PG I've just been..stubbord in bringing them together. WIll begin experimenting (which is soooo much fun anyway!)

And thanks for the link, I like the set they have on Soundcloud. Must buy! but the ninja shop is down!

I use Drawberry because it's free (and pixlr.com for editing) and I get by I think..not as easy as CS3. I designed the album art with my mouse in Illustrator CS3 on my friends comp so I still have the .ai and it opens in drawberry but...as a flat background and I can't do anything with it.

you sound like you have an idea

I don't know if I'm going to use this store on Reverbnation, but I threw this graphic together real quick for it. I think I like it better than what's on the main page now so maybe I'll figure out some buttons to put on there...do another image map.

    on actual site - http://cl.ly/46273t1b3T3W2k2P100Q

I think i like the black background a lot better. But that'd mean changing the tiled background...figure something out. maybe just plain black...

    store - not really finished. - http://www.reverbnation.com/store/artist_470177 (don't know if I will if I can't use a custom domain =/)
