Some Norwegian game retailers pulling [shooters] off shelves, militant extremist to blame
After the terrible massacre which occured in Norway, many debate or accuse violent video games for being the cause due to the militant extremist claiming in his journal that he played a couple certain games. Although clearly his motive wasn't influenced by any video game, some still believe it played a part. Due to this, some retailers in Norway have pulled certain games temporarily off of their shelves which include: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, World at War, Counter-Strike Source, Homefront, Sniper: Ghost Warrior and World of Warcraft. However one retailer stated that they couldn't see video games as the blame to which they refused to remove the games from sale.

How stupid. People will just buy them online, now.
It kind of amuses me that people think this is a statement that works when it comes to banning media. In the age of the internet, a physical boycott effects very few things when it comes to media.
At first it seemed it was just military shooters, but why WoW?

It's also ignorant and pointless. The thought that anyone who is not batshit insane actually uses MW2 to train for mass murder is just fucking dumb. If MW2 made people want to kill everyone, then why haven't there been over 10,000,000 new murderers the world over?
WoW was thrown in there because he played it.

WoW was removed because he was a pretty hardcore player (people dug up his forum posts shortly after the rampage occured).

On a related note, this issue was brought up here in Australia, but was swiftly ignored. Here, in Australia, where we're only just now going to get the R18 rating soon.

The Australian Christian Lobby is calling for a ban on violent videogames in the wake of the Oslo massacre, but the government says it's unreasonable to blame games for the behavior of a "madman."

WOW was blamed due to Brevik playing it non stop, funnily enough from his post history he demanded that casual players be removed from some servers. In his stupid justification book, he details that people should use WOW as an excuse to be anti-social and that it makes for a great bait to lead the media to point fingers.
On the case of MW2, he has had military training for a year and MW2 will teach you the same about shooting as Mario Kart could teach you about Formula 1 driving. Things like proper maintenance, firing positions, loading/reloading, adjusting to recoil/barrel flattening, tactics and other procedures could never be taught in MW2. Problem is, everyone wants someone or something to blame, when the bigger picture is that a dickhead with an idea and a sick mind can do anything.
This reminds me of the time Fox News tried to say Mass Effect was a sex simulator. People will commit all kinds of stupidity over sensationalism. It's sad that video games always become the target, because guns have lobbyists.

This event is played up to be bigger than it is, Coop is not a games store or electronics store by any means, it's a super market chain that is taking advantage of a tragedy to score some free publicity points.
So calling it "Norwegian Retailers" is misleading, it's two chains, and one of them is a chain that barely sells games in the first place.
EDIT: Anyone who believes that videogames is the cause for the shooting in Norway is really ignorant.
I eagerly await the day when the generations that have grown up playing games are the vast majority of the population, so we can forget this sort of stupid shit. I wonder what the next thing is that people of our general age group will object to? This sort of a cycle is beyond stupid.

I am ready to usher in the end times. The mark of the beast, which shall be required to buy and to sell, will be a livid brand reading "Correlation does not equal Causation".
If someone becomes dead-set on something and they're willing to die for it, they'll get it done.
It's just shitty that he was that fucked up.
This is how I've always felt. And when you're that fucked up and over the line, then I think movies, video games, music, they can all give you ideas to imitate, do fucked up things.
So, games and stuff won't make youndo things and fuck you up, but if you're already fucked up in the head? Ok, they can be an influence.
Ultimately, in the 1528-page document, there are nine places with mentions of World of Warcraft, (one of which also mentions Bioshock and Fallout 3). Modern Warfare is mentioned in five different sections while Dragon Age is mentioned on its own once. If anyone finds any more, please let me know. I'd be surprised if there were more than twenty in total. I'd be staggered if I missed the one which said, 'actually forget everything else, I just want to copy the No Russian level from Call of Duty.
The rest of it is spent idolizing the Knights Templar, hating on Islam, Marxism, multiculturalism and immigrants, and planning a violent revolution to establish a Christian theocracy in Europe. He's a right wing religious extremist nutter who played video games in his spare time.
Cue righteous indignation.

Your logic doesn't hold.
What you meant to say was, a killer doesn't need any particular video game, or a game at all to train to kill - if they're even really capable of doing that in any meaningful way. They'll find a way to become a killer regardless.
So much for Norway "not changing" in the face of terrorism. (though I bet overall it's still a lot less knee jerking than the US and other countries)

I heard that he liked chicken for dinner, so when is Norway moving on its poultry ban?
