I think we are using all community created maps so people can just grab a sourceport, connect and play.

And it's good that Quake Night is back. It is so much fun.

Quake night resumes it's normal Tuesday night time today. Map rotation for this week is TriDM3, BalDM3, BSDM6, EFDM1, and EFDM5.

Attendance was really low tonight, so I'm going to hold a makeup date for Friday at 10:30. I'm considering permanently rescheduling the night to Fridays if attendance isn't going to be as high for Tuesdays, but would like opinions on this before making a permanent change.

Thanks to those that showed up, and sorry about the crap quality of the blue map (EFDM1). It didn't work out as well was I was hoping. Guess I can't pick winners all of the time. The map has been replaced in the rotation with the group favorite ZTNDM4. The rest of the rotation is the same as above.

Cheers to this thread and to Quake players, one of the best online communities I ever had the pleasure to partake in.

In regards to the low attendance, there was a bit of a scheduling misunderstanding and we had a PA Jedi Academy game ending right as the scheduled Quake event began. There is some member overlap between the two groups and I'm pretty sure everyone probably needed a break.

I feel that moving the weekly Quake game to a different night would be ideal to avoid this, as I would really like to keep jka on Tuesdays if at all possible. Friday night may be an issue though, as that's our recurring PA Star Wars Battlefront 2 game night and may also draw PA'ers away from the Quake event.

Mon, Wed, Thurs, Sat, Sun are all great choices though.

To clarify, the server is just fine and has more than enough bandwith and horsepower to host multiple servers/games during overlapping time frames. These scheduling reasons and discussion are all simply attendance based to try and get the best possible turnout for all PA groups hosted on our server.

I tried hosting a makeup date last Thursday and no one showed up, so I'm hosting it Friday as people showed up that night.

I don't want to move Quake night from Tuesdays as we've had that as the established night for a while now. This Friday is simply a makeup day in case people forgot about tonight because of the schedule being thrown out of whack due to the makeup day from the server being out on our normal day last week. If there's a consensus from the group to move it from Tuesday to some other day then I'll happily change it, but until I hear otherwise the plan is to keep Quake night on Tuesday.

Server load seemed just fine, but we only had 4 at peak. I did a quick check of Padawangs to see how many were in JA at the time just so I had a rough idea of what to expect, and I only noticed 3 in game at the time (so 7 total). The only concern I have about load is if each server is around 6 or 7 each, but I honestly don't think there will be any issues there.

Bullio, I would appreciate it if you worked with me on the scheduling instead of taking a hard line. In fact, I think it would be best if you would first consult me and/or Digital about any future scheduling so it doesn't interfere with other things we have planned. Consider it a small price to pay for our continued server hosting and participation.

The bottom line is that Tuesdays and Fridays are not going to work. Please pick a different night for Quake games.

What time do you guys begin your Quake night? I've been following this thread thinking about getting into it.

Fine, I'll move it to Thursdays from now on. I ask that next time you schedule a new weekly play night for a new game that check if you're unsure instead of assuming as I am not going to keep shuffling our regular day around.

You have this server because of our generosity and time, and I'm frankly insulted by your attitude. I spoke with Digital this morning and he also feels that it is completely unacceptable. You should be grateful we did this for you, rather than confrontational about a simple scheduling request. To tell me that I need to check with you for scheduling on my server is just fucking ridiculous. Even useoftoaster was taken aback by your post just now as we discussed the situation on Steam.

I'm pulling the plug as of tonight. You'll need to find someone else to treat like a bitch.

My post was, at the very least, no more insulting than yours.

Your definition of "working with you" is "your night that people have been playing on for over a month interferes with this new event I just made on your night. Change it." I did as you told me, not asked, and made a simple request that if you're going to schedule weekly events that will interfere with ours that you let me know ahead of time. Constantly rescheduling a pre-planned weekly event is not ideal and is a quick way to destroy it (especially one that never felt like it was on a solid foundation like this one). And I was to consult you...how? Like how you consulted this thread, the Steam group, or me before barging ahead and making Tuesday JA night after we'd had Tuesday well-established as our play night? There was no reason for me to consult anyone about Tuesdays because it was no giant secret that we've been playing on Tuesdays, and have been doing so for a while now. So I don't understand why I suddenly had to ask your permission to play at that time, especially considering there already appeared to be an agreement when you offered to host us. If you had talked to me ahead of time (no, a couple hours before start time is not enough) and told me you wanted to make Tuesday JA night I would have been more open to the idea of changing it over. Forcing us into changing our regular night (which was established before the server was set up) afterwards, instead of even making an attempt at rescheduling the brand new JA night, is rather lame and frankly inconsiderate.

What would have happened when Thursday suddenly interfered with your "future plans?" Monday? Saturday? You provided no assurance that I would not have to reschedule the regular day again, and I was not going to consult someone every week and ask permission to play on our regular day to make sure I don't inconvenience some brand new event. It would be easier to simply find a server, or host one myself. I, and the rest of the group, absolutely appreciated you hosting the server for us. I honestly don't think this would have lasted as long as it has without the server. You offered to host us, and I took you up on the kind offer because I knew it would be great for this group. And yes, it's your server and you can do what you want with it. That said, threatening (and ultimately killing) the server if I don't do as told is a pretty weak move, especially considering that this wouldn't have been an issue if you had simply done some real quick research first or given me advance notice so I could adjust our plans instead of trying to strong-arm us out of it after the fact.

I was originally going to ask you to at least try to reschedule JA night instead of forcing us out of our day as this whole incident popped up from an erroneous assumption on your part, thus asking you to put some sort of foot forward in fixing what was probably an honest mistake on your part, but I see that would have been pointless. If people still want to play I'll find us some place to play. There are plenty of Quake servers out there, and I'm fairly certain I could probably at least host us for scheduled nights on my old PC if necessary. If not, then Quake night lasted much longer than I hoped and I'm glad that it was able to survive as long as it did to give people the chance to play it. As I mentioned before, your hosting us certainly helped in that and I thank you for hosting us as long as you did.
