[Now if I could remember the topdown helicopter shooter.
Jungle/Desert/Nuclear Strike?
No, that's not it. I actually remember Jungle/Desert/Nuclear Strike, it tried to be "real" heh.
This particular game, from what I can remember, was a top down shooter, you travelled from down to button and enemies flied from top to button.
What was strange of that game, is that for some reason, you could skip to several stages on the option menu (I don't really remember the name of that particular option) but I remember that one of the stages you could skip to was on a Roman or Greek Setting and you fought a Cerberus (No really, I'm not making this up).
Edit.-
Hah! I just searched on google "Helicopter shooter snes" and on the first page I found an entry for D-Force, looking at wikipedia:
The main menu splits the game up into three sections; "Game Start," "Shooting Mode," and "Exploration Mode."
Game Start plays through all of the game's seven levels. Shooting Mode plays only the four levels where consistent shooting and dodging enemy fire is the main focus. These levels are also the only levels that feature the ability to gain bullet and missile power-ups to the helicopter. "Exploration Mode" plays only the three levels which involve switching altitudes to shoot down certain enemies and avoid obstacles.
Gameplay involves being the pilot of an Apache Helicopter, and shooting enemies down in the style of a vertical scrolling shooter. Large red gunships can be shot down to gain power-ups for the helicopter in order to upgrade the guns and have it fire homing missiles. Each level features a midboss and a boss, and both must be destroyed in order to advance to the next level. The style of the levels as the player advances alternates between "Shooting Mode" and "Exploration Mode," where the latter involves levels set in a fantasy-like setting and are the only level types that provide no power-ups to the player and give the player the ability to switch their altitude.
So I wasn't crazy for remembering a Cerberus! I wonder if I could finish it now, after playing Ikaruga and Jamestown.

Wow thats an obscure one. I like to think I had a decent amount of knowledge on shooters in general and I hadn't heard of it.
Glad to see its pretty cheap on ebay. Sometimes I hear about a great snes game and it turns out to be rare/pricey, e.x demons crest, wild guns

I wouldn't call it a really great snes game, I just remember renting it a lot because it was one of the three games I could rent. I still wonder if I could finish it now, more than 10 years later.
Ah, Demon's Crest, I used to rent that one too. It blew me away that there was a Demon's Quest game for the NES (I remember I traded my N64 for a NES to a friend for a couple of weeks so I could rent all the NES games I wanted to play from Blockbuster).
I remember I managed to finish Demon Quest, I tried to play it a couple of years ago and didn't even managed to finish the first action stage.

I've been looking for a copy of Demon's Crest too, just because it looks so awesome, but yeah it's apparently kind of rare.

Oh, I just searched on Ebay for the game, and there are currently 15 auctions for the game, there is even a sweet deal with Demon's Crest, Super Mario RPG and Zelda which is currently on 17.50 USD.
If only I weren't so lazy to set up a pay pal account and I didn't have my SNES stored at the other side of the country (Sure, keeping in mind that the sellers WOULD ship internationally).
