Alright guys. Sticking with WMX because it's what I know, and I've more or less adjusted to the adjustments its made.

Not a good sign for the future of the Wall when the wall's creator is already looking to move on :\

Considering Skyrim's in November, that gives a good solid month and almost a half after LR comes out to work. :P

And if not, it's still a hell of a great mod; it'll just be greater if the creator is able to bring it up to date.

Don't forget that mod tools aren't always released at launch, either. Skyrim's engine will be all new, so unless they've announced that the tools will be there at launch (I haven't been following it too close even though I'm hella psyched for it), that's something.

Edit: So I got home, started my game up, and I realized I had little recollection of what I was doing. So I'm officially weeding out some mods that I no longer use/didn't use much, ever.
One question that's come up, is do I keep using WMX? Is WME better or just different? What are the key differences between the two?

Honestly the community could probably update it if he can't. The biggest change would be expanding the wall. Although incorporating the AIs from OWB would be awesome.

I'm a little surprised no one hasn't yet, but then it's not officially 'dead' so no reason for anyone to yet.
As for AIs, that would be a great 'reward' for completing OWB. I think that the seed planting of the 'vanilla' UH would have to be rendered non-functional to make sense with the seed-thing. Other than that there's a place for everyone.

I bought it a long time ago, but haven't gotten around to playing it. Is Fallout 2 a good game? Heard really good things, but just never found time.

Yes, it is. But use the community mod pack or whatever it's called.

I wish the release dates for Gun Runners and LR were reversed. I could easily spend a week rounding up new toys for all my characters to try out in Lonesome Road.

I'm sure as hell not waiting an extra week on top of the delay for LR, so I guess I'm just going to have to run one of my characters through without the cool new shit.

I hate that I haven't had any time to play New Vegas so I just spend my time reading about mods. This is because I unable to put just an hour into the game at a time.

I'm busy collecting everything I can in my current playthrough; given the mods I'm running, I should have some fantastic toys to take into LR. Supplementary Uniques is easily becoming my favorite equipment/collecting-game mod, and a few of those are already looking to be on my "always carry" roster.

I guess its probably worth noting that GRA stuff is gonna be vendor items, and not adding to the loot tables. so its probably a good idea to start stocking up on bottle caps; I believe the new ammos are gonna be purchase/craft only as well. Definitely gonna need some caps!

I am getting antsy for the DLC releases and the new Hideout, so I am going to go do a serve-the-wall playthrough of Fallout 3. I have a few random achievements left for it anyway.

I'm going to try out those Ojo Bueno texture mods and see how they affect performance, if at all (beefy PC here). I love nice textures, but I kind of wonder if the burned-out Mojave desert landscape really needs them. Stuff can look like shit without being highly polished shit I guess. We'll see. They're packaged in OMODs so it won't be hard to compare.

I don't play this like a roleplaying game much, but I keep doing weird things to NPCs for fun even though I know they have no effect on the game at all.

I amused myself by putting Papa Khan's steak on his chair when he was sleeping. I picture him getting a squishy surprise and then just staring at it with disappointment. "Man I was going to eat that."

I kind of want to fill somebody's room with tin cans and scrap.

Also the lucky Boomer whose excellent performance on ordnance tests led to her being entrusted with the base's Fat Man met with a mysterious and tragic end today while wandering the cornfields.

Here is an odd question, if I was to buy one of the DLCs for FNV on Steam would I still be able to play my game while it downloads?

Generally speaking, all Steam downloads stop the instant you launch a game. (although I have seen a few exceptions to this rule with simple games that launch in a window)

So short answer, you'd be able to play, but the download would stop until you quit the game.

I just alt+tab out of the game and resume the download again, works every time.

It's like the act of launching a game pauses downloads, but once it's running Steam forgets that it wants those downloads paused.

I can't really put my finger on it, but there's something about the Ojo texture packs that have a lot of character in comparison to NMC's texture packs. NMC makes some odd decisions here and there, and like I said, seems kind of amateurish by comparison.

I think the question was more of would downloading DLC have any weird affects while you were playing the game it's for.

For the Bethesda games, I don't see how it would since you have to enable the DLC in the launcher before it affects the game.

    Thanks dudes.

I'm in Afghanistan so the internet here is pretty shitty. Buying any DLC would probably take me a few days to download and I didn't want to be locked out of my game while it downloaded.

Does anyone have any advice for what the hell to do with that underwater vault?

I havent touched this game in a month because I was cruising along, loving every second, and then got to that point (something about irrigation). The ghouls down there were insane, and I'd fight through them, and then I'd end up drowning.

Lately Ive been in a pretty bad mood, so my "I JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN" vs. the "Ill tolerate this frusteration" curve is all out of whack. I quit because drowning over and over sucked. Any pointers? Id love to get back into this...

I don't actually think that would work. Downloading the DLC acts as a patch, and steam will not let you play a game if it's currently patching said game.

I get messages all the time from Steam while I'm playing Fallout that it's finished updating Fallout. I don't know what it's updating all the damn time, but it does happen.

  • heenatoheenato Alice Leywind Registered User regular
If you're already in the game when the update starts, yeah. It'll continue playing. But if you try to START the game while it's updating, it tells you to wait until it's done patching.

Phibbs has the right idea for the Vault 34 underwater sections, that would be easiest. And for anything water-related for that matter. That said, the sections in Vault 34 (if I recall) have a specific thing you're trying to find underwater. There's enough time to go just for that and back out safely, its just not the place to play tourist.

I saw one somewhere or other with Caesar's corpse slung over the back of his throne, and the Courier in full veteran ranger garb chilling in the seat. Fuck. Yes.

Wow, most folks would complain about the radiation, not the underwater sections of Vault 34.
While getting the rebreather from Jack (the Boomer, not the Great Khan) will allow you to stay an unlimited duration underwater, there is exactly one item that you need to get from the first underwater section. It's a keycard on the ghoul technician, a couple of rooms down, wedged under a desk (this triggers a scripted surprise ghoul attack when you emerge from the water). After getting that keycard and exploring the Vault a bit more by passing through the medical section into the other side of the Vault, you should find a computer terminal that requires 100 Science to hack. This will allow you to flush out the water from the underwater sections completely.
In general, if you want to just dick around, the Vaults are probably not the place to do it. Most of them are maze-like dungeon crawls with little to no instructions on how to complete them (except for Vault 19, which is occupied by Powder Gangers and has a quest to complete that is pretty straightforward). It can make for a tense experience, but you'll be doing a lot of exploring and backtracking.

Yeah seriously, waiting till you get the rebreather is the best idea if you're having trouble. There's really not much you need to go through the water for in there anyway; but if you want to be completionist about it...yeah. The rebreather is generally a nice thing to have on you always. If I play through NV again I'm going to go and do the Boomer quests asap from the get go in order to get it to have always. It weighs nothing and you can't accidentally get rid of it since it's a quest item and you keep it forever.

Outside of the Boomers quest to get the rebreather, and the underwater vault, I cant think of a single instance where the rebreather was needed/useful.

Unless you just want to explore the bottom of lake mead/colorado river.

  • Hahnsoo1Hahnsoo1 Make Ready. We Hunt.Registered User, Moderator mod
Well, it does give you 3 points of DR (reducing damage by 3 percent). That's... something. If you happen to get hit by 33 points of damage or more, it will reduce the damage by 1 point. Erm. Honest Hearts has a couple of caves where you can go diving. Old World Blues has the Magneto-Hydraulic Lab or whatever. Neither of those DLC require extensive diving to the point where you'll need a rebreather. Quite a few mods add areas that are either underwater or require some swimming, though. If you end up doing the Brotherhood quest line, there is one part that is found underwater in Vault 11.

While there's almost nothing that absolutely requires the rebreather, holding your breath is for chumps when you have an awesome 0 weight pocket-sized breathing apparatus. :P

Yeah it's really not that it's anything that is required, it is useful to just have around and certainly doesn't hurt anything. Might as well go get it if you're planning on doing boomers stuff anyway.

I actually used it quite a bit in Honest Hearts. I seem to recall it being useful in OWB but atm can't really remember where.

Finally got to play a little modded up New Vegas tonight. The Underground Hideout mod is very impressive. The initial "quest" really sucks though, I'd recommend newcomers skip it.

I think I might disable the increased spawn and monster mod. They seem to just be missing the same magic that Mart's Mutant mod had. Mart's made the world of Fallout 3 feel more alive whereas the increased spawns in Vegas just turns everything into a shit show, encounters no longer feel properly spaced out and it makes the combat feel repetitive. No idea what element from Mart's it's missing. It might be the world design in New Vegas is less conducive to more spawns or that Vegas had a better difficulty curve then Fallout 3 so increasing the difficulty is less necessary to add a sense of danger to the world.

As said before, it's fine until the lasers. The lasers weren't so bad with a few saves and reloads, and it was a relatively short section. It's not nearly as hard as some Mega Man levels out there, in terms of timing your way across.

I play IWS with Low Spawns and everything else on, generally. The village guards make the populations seem a bit more realistic, and the patrols set up some running gun battles between conflicting factions, which is really nice. I love hearing "pop pop pop" and going over a hill to see a Legion/NCR or Jackal/NCR battle. If you are getting decreased performance, you might want to try the temo or ToggleEmotions console command. Or uninstall some of those "lipstick on a pig" prettification mods that greatly slow down your performance.

Monster Mod adds a ton of monsters, and a lot of them aren't really canon. I'm told that they are fun to hunt down in the AWOP Rumble Zones as a mission-like challenge, but honestly, you can skip the Monster Mod unless you are running other mods that require it. I'd still recommend IWS without the Monster Mod.
