Listen, chumpo. In the grim future of Glossolalia, there is only Derelicte. So stuff it.
Derelict is the coolest and also best play-by-post Role-Playing RPG Game adventure! Click the flags above to learn more about this incredible RPRPGG! It's a post-apocalyptic science-fiction steampunk pirate erotica fan-fiction extravaganza! No other PBP game can boast both clockwork pirate-ship-shaped tanks and sexy rat ladies.
In addition to in-character posts made in this thread, the players of Derelict meet once a week on instant messenger to have a live play session. Currently these are scheduled for 9:00 PM EST on Mondays.
Oh yeah, and I guess you can also use this thread to talk about those other dumb washed-up games that are run by people who aren't me and therefore suck.
The year is 2560, and humanity has colonized the solar system. On the terraformed, paradise-world of Callisto, the Temple of the Harmonic Mind teaches a select group of dedicated humans to attune their minds and bodies to the patterns and rythms of the universe. The training is difficult, but once completed the monks can bend the fundamental elements of our world--earth, fire, water, and even the fabric of space--to their will. However, many teachers believe that one's talents can only be found in the heat of battle.
It's for this reason that a handful of students has been sent to Mars to shut down a small band of slavers. Their sesei believes victory is assured, but will they be able to work as a team and unlock their superhuman abilities? And, more importantly, will they be ready for what happens next?
A band of colorful characters wake up in the brig of an airship with no memory of who they are, where they're from or why anyone would bother to capture them. In the process of escaping their imprisonment, they learn they're all members of the Slate family, and that someone's been sending letters in red envelopes that make rather suspicious requests of certain powerful people and organizations. Hoping to find some answers (and a place to temporarily call home), the Slate siblings have teamed up with the Serpent Clan. With the Clan's influence and the Slates' skills, they both might find what they're looking for.
Assuming this dysfunctional family can get along.
GMed by DE?AD
DE?AD should gimme a player list to post here.
Hey, I wanna play too!
Hurray! We are always glad to have more new players. Each currently running game uses some variation of DE?AD's own currently-in-progress role-playing system, [%]. The system is designed for ease-of-use, and even if you've never played an RPG before, it should be very easy for you to pick up and understand. The current edition of the [%] Core Rules can be found on the Glossolalia wiki here. For the most part, though, as a player you don't actually need to know most of that stuff, as your GM will take care of the majority of it for you. The main thing you'll need to know is how to create a character.
How to create a character for Derelict
Come up with a cool idea for some kinda salty sailor. Then, give him or her three [Talents] and three [Flaws]. More importantly though, give the character a neat personality and backstory. The plot of Derelict is heavily driven by the characters, because I am too lazy to come up with my own plots it helps to foster a sense of collaborative storytelling. So having your character be interesting is far more important than specifying what they're good or bad at!
Also, if you play Derelict you get to contribute to its worldbuilding! If you have a neat idea about how some part of this hideous Frankenstein of a setting should work, then post it! It will become "canon," presuming it doesn't contradict anything that someone's already come up with and pending my approval.
Derelict can currently accept only two more players.
How to create a character for Resonance
Ah, you missed out on your chance to get that last spot in Derelict huh? Tough break. Tough. Break. But that's alright, Resonance and Slate Gray are also cool. You know, if it's all you can get.
Every player in Resonance takes on the role of a novice monk of the Temple of the Harmonic Mind. Because you have only started your journey, you haven't fully developed any skills yet. Your stat line should look like this:
As the game progresses, Traits will be announced that any player can take and add to their statline. These traits are permanent and cannot be gotten rid of once you take them.
b]??? (???)]/b refers to your character's fighting style. In the parentheses goes the element that your character can manipulate through martial arts. After acquiring an element, Stilts will determine an appropriate name to fill in the other set of ???, giving a label to the way you conduct yourself in battle.
The number next to your name represents your character's current Ki Points. You earn Ki Points from roleplaying like a boss, and can spend them to increase your chances on things.
The third line is your inventory, where important items your character owns are listed. Everyone starts with a Harmonic Mind Gi, which protects you from lethal damage.
How to create a character for Slate Gray
Every player in Slate Gray plays the role of a member of the Slate family, each of which started out the adventure with a bad case of amnesa. As such, none of them remember what they're good at. Statlines in Slate Gray look like this:
[Character Name] 000
[???] [???] [???]
[I: ]
As you can see, Slate Gray uses a system very similar to Resonance's. The main difference is that instead of Ki Points, your character has three different colored points. You earn points of various colors for doing certain actions. Sometimes you even get crazy-colored points, like purple or something! Most of the better traits you can get in Slate Gray require certain point totals to unlock.
[Mal Carne]
Mal gasps at Jessie's condition respones to Jaralla.
"All right, my sweet. It's time save our most lovely and compassionate first mate Ms. Craaaaais" Mal says in a singsong voice before running off to the kitchen. "See you Sooooooon."
I am the opposite of the Ideal player. I don't even have a character page. 8-)
Jessie spews chunks of of antlion meat and globules of porridge all over the floor. Jaralla looks very concerned. Dr. Howell moves in along with Quorthon to get her back to bed.
"Mal, get a fire going on the stove! I'll come up and tell you how to make the medicine after I help put Boom to bed."
[31/45] Rob takes a few seconds to think it over. "Fine. Just a ticket off will be fine, but you'll escort me to the ship. I'll lead you to where we've got Yuriel. Not gonna risk saying it out loud."
---Europa---
Joshua frowns, then looks at Sims. "Your fiend's kind of a...uh..."
"Asshole," Kira finishes.
Sims smirks. "He's not my friend. Just my weapon."
"Found the organism during an expedition," Kira explains. "Trapped in a building; design looked XenoMartian. Scans could penetrate the building, but didn't detect lifesigns. It killed Zeke. Zeke fired first though, so possibly retaliatory, not hostile."
"So we can only see it with optics?" Sims asks.
"Correct."
"Fantastic."
Joshua suggest that you get suited up, as there's little time to waste. Sims agrees, and the two scientists leads you through the bare white hallways and variety of living spaces. Everything about this place seems to place function over form. Beds have plenty of protection from the cold, but are otherwise very simple metal frames, each with one mattress. The tech is another story. There's some mining equipment, but less than you'd expect considering Europa is supposed to be a resource-gathering colony. There are plenty of very expensive scanners, quantum-scale microscopes, quarantine bays and other diagnostic equipment you wouldn't think they'd need to gather minerals or whatever the hell they do here. You're not a [Scientist]. Probably.
Eventually you get to a small locker room that's right next to an airlock.
"Put these on," Kira says, taking two white full-body suits out of a locker. Unlike most suits, this one covers your head completely, though it seems to have a built-in respirator, microphone and clear visor. The fabric feels a little thicker than your gi. "Protects from the cold."
"If it's damaged, it'll quickly secrete a repairing gel," Joshua says. "Try to be careful, though. The gel isn't unlimited, and it won't be able to handle very large gashses."
Sims smirks. "He's not my friend. Just my weapon."
"Oh, honey, so cold! And here I'd been carryin' this engagement ring around in my pocket all day lookin' for the right time to pop the question." He turns to the scientists. "Do jewelers do refunds?"
Sokudo's curious about the lab equipment but doesn't care enough to actually ask about it. He follows them and suits up.
"Right, don't get my ass kicked, got it. Is there any kinda plan beyond that?"
Marius grins as the soldier stands back up. The grin shatters into an ugly scowl in an instant as he thinks of all the food this thing is keeping him from searching for. Meat. That he could be eating.
Then he grins again, "I wonder how you see without eyes!" He screams, running towards the windows, grabbing the desk chair quickly and hurling it through the glass screaming: "You can't touch me!" then ducking away into the corner from the expected storm of the weapon.
(Penelope) 3 3 4 1
[Barbarian][Fearless][?]
[i: Ji, Incriminating Letter x 3, Tsunomi Super Throwing Blades, Tsunomi REflex Chain-Sickle]
The beeping snaps Penelope out of... just, like, being, ya know? She takes two of her throwing blades in hand, and (with an ululating screech) charges the suit-man, attempting to stick the two pygmy knives somewhere painful.
While the rest of her team beats the shit out of the revived enemy, Rachel decides this might be a good opportunity to drag Nohomo out of the line of fire. It'd be a shame if they arrived just in time only for him to get hit by a stray bullet.
