[Starcraft 2] THIS THREAD IS OVER. POST IN THE NEW ONE.
I don't really see why Stephano would quit SC2, unless he was doing a very intense college program. He could at least still play semi-pro, do coaching, or community stuff. But I 100% support quitting starcraft in favor of education instead of quitting education for starcraft.

I don't get it either. qxc goes to one of the hardest colleges in this country and still manages to play semi-pro.
Life isn't just about money. I'd rather make a decent living doing something I love than rake in the cash doing something I don't care about or hate.
I mean do you think the top pros and top casters in SC2 do not consider eSports to be their career?
Edit: But yeah, no reason Stephano couldn't do both in some capacity. Hell, another option might be to do school part-time and support it with money brought in from being a pro SC2 player.

Yeah...no. I think he's fine starting with 30k before he even enters Uni. Better off than 99.9% of all entering students.
His point was that other sports are no more valid or deserving of scholarships in and of themselves. The entire reason colleges offer sport scholarships is so they attract good sportsmen to play on the college sports teams, who will then bring recognition to the college they play for. If professional videogaming becomes more mainstream, that may be something that happens.
There is nothing that anyone gets from a physical sport that you don't get from Starcaft 2, except exercise, which you can do anywhere.
The only thing stopping esports gaining equal status as physical sports is the ignorant public.

I think everyone on here would love to be good enough to play SC2 part time (and win some money) while doing something else like school full-time. I just hope Stephano is as gifted a student as he is a SC2 player.

I meant in terms of university support. I was a basketball tutor while I was at Georgia Tech. The school did a really good job of structuring the players' study and athletics time to allow them to succeed in both fields. It's much harder to apply that type of rigor to your schedule on your own.

so I didn't leave when I said I was leaving, I stayed for the finals and checked out the after party.
the energy for stephano was fucking INCREDIBLE and I hope it carried over on stream. I stood up as his roaches reached lucky's nat in the final game and then everyone else started getting up 8-)
went to the afterparty, there was a little karaoke (anna was the only one who did anythng) but I left, I wasn't going to go up and start yapping at anyone in any environment, let alone a dark bar with music playing. but I did get an IGN person talking to me, first asked what my staff position was and I explained why I had the badge (which has the name Christine on it, by the way). he asked what I liked, what I'd change... I basically blew him and the rest of ign right then and there, couldn't think of a complaint and gave him a lot of praise.
as I was walking out I passed a group of korean pros, MC, puma, ryung. then white ra showed up (this is in the middle of the lobby). then djwheat and slasher. but again, I'm not one to just start yapping so I just sort of gawked and the walked away to the parking lot.
drove my car to pay for parking, I didn't have cash and they wouldn't take a card. I had to go back... and since I had to go back anyway I figured hey, I'll walk past that area again... except this time, well this time boxer was there.
(unfortunately it came out blurry but you get the point)
soooo yeah. as if everything that came before wasn't awesome, that was the ultimate capper. especially since I was pissed I had to go back to get cash.
here's a few more pictures from when I went backstage with my staff pass, taken with my phone (sorry again for the blurry)
Ret's badge (just sitting on a table so I figured I'd snap a picture)
hd from the side, general back room, you can see the tv (this is during the lol stream) and the room behind is where they did make up
you can see select more clearly in this one
and this is MC, Puma, Apollo, at this point apollo was asking puma if he ever faced Naniwa on ladder because Naniwa was "many many BM" (that's apollo trying to communicate with puma)

most players are still young. You can chase championships and practice time for at least a couple years before settling down, I certainly wish I could follow a dream like that full time for even one

the drive wasn't even that bad. especially on the way home where I was amped from boxer sighting #2 (and also ate plenty of garbage type food to keep me going)

Code A spoilers
I did a Code A viewing party thing with some friends and... wow, fuck Oz. Everybody's freaking out about the best FFs we've ever seen and he manages to throw every game in a completely underwhelming fashion. Here's how he lost:
Scouting probe gets sniped, goes 15 Nexus with 1 cannon and 1 gate and no attempt to check for a roach all-in
Takes a far hidden third (that wasn't hidden) and can't keep up with the mutas. Scouts Spire and goes Stargate to make a grand total of 5 phonixes (10 minutes later)
Separates his 10 full energy sentries from the rest of his army when there are burrowed roaches on the field
Proxy 2 gates on the best protoss map in the history of the GSL
He didn't show up to play, he showed up to whine on stage. I can't wait to watch him drown in the up/downs

Edit: Horrible TOTP. Stephano spent a year just playing SCII, but is still planning on attending university within a year.

Sure it can, you just have to be really, really, really good, or manage to become a staple of the media side of eSports.

and even if he's the top of the game, being above average at a normal career still pays better over the long haul.

I'm going to be saving this
honestly watching stephano play I was thinking about making a smurf zerg account and that was going to be the name

weird. I guess he didn't want to deal with all the possibilities... but second depot that fast means no gas.
