First look at "No Mercy", a collaboration between Overkill and Valve on a new campaign featuring a familiar hospital from a popular first-person zombie-shootin' game...
I played a bit of this at E3. It kind of looked like fun, but it had a lot of "hey, guys look over there so I can go... watch over these hostages better."
Maybe I'm just bitter; I'm currently being three-way backstabbed in a game of Diplomacy and find it hard to trust people who might have ulterior motives.
Hmm... $15 each for the 4-pack? I might want to go in with you, tardcore. Let me know if you can't find a 4th.

Welcome to Diplomacy. If the players don't hate each other and never want to see each other again, you're doing something wrong.

Looks interesting, would certainly be willing to read more about it.
But at the same time (and sorry to be a downer), but it's a very rare multiplayer-only budget title that ever lasts beyond a month or two before the players simply disappear.
Thread title already has me sold on this game. Left for dead + heat? L4D is one of my favorite games of all time when you have a group of players that understand how to play as a team.

The best mission's going to be the one where we meet up in a coffee shop and talk about our dreams.

I will try and maintain the following level of understated professionalism during each round:
From the whole "clown mask" gimmick this game's got, I'd say the heist scene from The Dark Knight is more of a direct influence than Heat, but I may be nitpicking.
Right now I'm cautiously optimistic, mainly since I've been missing Kane & Lynch 2's Fragile Alliance multiplayer and really hope this hits the same marks.
I am curious about gameplay mechanics, like can you betray the other guys on your crew, and what happens if you die (respawn as a criminal, respawn as a cop, sit there and watch for the rest of the round?).

From what I've read respawns are based on hostages. So if you go down but your group has at least one hostage, you'll be revived in exchange for a hostage. It also has a level up system.
I'll be waiting for reviews and such after the game comes out, unfortunately this is a game that I see (for consoles) having the price drop like a rock quite quickly.

On consoles it's only available on PSN, so...that price isn't coming down anytime soon, I can almost guarantee

So I really want to play this before I buy. I'm a big fan of Kane & Lynch multiplayer as well, but the trailers they have on steam aren't giving me a whole lot of confidence. Is there any chance they'll release a demo soon?
i got this thing, if anyone wants to shoot some dudes and rob some things. i tried to get a game going earlier this afternoon... and couldnt. so thats disheartening.
So, it's releasing in 15 mins and I just impulse bought a 4-pack on Steam just in case there was an unshown preorder price-break for the 4-pack too. Who wants in?

PC options are barebones, resolution and brightness slider. No vsync by default and it screen tore like a bitch. Runs solidly enough though. Gunplay feels weird, but I guess in order to fit in the skill trees they needed to make the guns inaccurate from the getgo. The game also takes no time in explaining how anything works, so if you didn't read up elsewhere things can get a bit awkward. Single player is an abomination. The bots AI is incredibly stupid and requires you to take point for everything, this includes trying to push forward through waves of baddies to reach an objective. At one point they refused to move despite me telling them to follow me, and had to get shot down to get them to move and pick me up. I failed the mission later on due to some similar incompetence, only they didn't bother picking me up despite there only being 2 cops in the area and 3 of them.
On the positive side, being able to scope out the bank in the first mission before starting the heist feels badass. The dynamic objective changes are subtle, such as where the manager is. Cop placement, assault times and special cops are different each time as well. In the two different attempts I made, I noticed an abundance of snipers in one window, whereas the next attempt there was only one sniper but had heavier troops come in from the roof. The drill objective also jammed constantly the first time, but the second time it only tripped up once and then finished without issue.
So far I am enjoying myself enough while keeping in mind some of the shortcomings may be bypassed by playing online and furthering my skill trees.
Yeah the single player teammate AI is terrible. Was right at the end of bank level with money and cop pulled a DON'T TASE ME BRO on me while teammates just stood around watching me do the electric slide. Co-op is basically the only way you are going to be able to play this game successfully.
On the plus side, it's a pure homage to Heat and other heist movies. Like mentioned above walking into bank and scoping it out while the Heat style music is playing is beyond cool.
Here's what the config file looks like, might be able to add lines in to force Vsync and MSAA:
# All general information about sound (but not the sample itself) from all loaded banks are stored in the default wwise memory pool.
# The more banks loaded and the more sounds in a bank, the more memory is needed here.
memory_wwise_default_pool_size_kb = 8600
# The percent of memory used when wwise will go into low memory mode and ignore less important sounds. Set this
# to 100 to disable the feature and always play everything.
memory_wwise_default_pool_threshold_percent = 90
# Information about currently playing sounds is stored in the lower engine memory pool. More concurrent playing
# sounds require more memory. Use 1MB for 50-80 voices, 2MB for 130-170 voices, roughly.
memory_wwise_lower_engine_pool_size_kb = 8000
# The percent of memory used when wwise will go into low memory mode and ignore less important sounds. Set this
# to 100 to disable the feature and always play everything.
memory_wwise_lower_engine_pool_threshold_percent = 90
I don't know about ATI cards, but Nvidia has a Control Panel that you can force certain settings in any 3D application. I've had to force Vsync in Dead Island and Borderlands, and never had a single bit of tearing.
This game seems interesting to me, but with so many other titles just around the corner, I'm keeping my wallet tight for what I really want. What a terrible problem to have.
I have some brutal mouse lag. I move the mouse and then it's mirrored in game about half a second later. Pretty much makes it impossible to hit anything that's moving. Fortunately, it seems not everyone has that problem and the developers are aware of it and trying to find the reason. I guess I'll have to amuse myself with Dungeon Defenders until that gets fixed.
EDIT: Fixed the mouse lag by lowering my resolution.
Played this for about an hour tonight, tried the first bank heist in single a few times and then with the gf. Initial impressions are that single player sucks a bit. The AI is useless, and requires you to do everything in a game that clearly is designed against that. That said, in a group, with intelligent people as teammates, this game is pretty kickass. Gameplay is VERY frenetic, I'm reminded of Left 4 Dead in it's rush moments. Not much of a tutorial, but the gameplay isn't too complicated, this isn't Europa Universalis, it's Left 4 Dead meets Heat. There are some small things that aren't quite as polished as Valve (one of the police types on that map had ski masks like our team, we all thought they were our guys initially), but that stuff is easily overlooked.
Had no problems with mouse-look, tearing, crashes etc. Smooth as could be for both of us playing. Created a lobby and linked to friends on Steam without issue. Only real complaint is that we had to drop it down from normal on our first go (and we play a lot of these types of games) and the AI sucks. I'd imagine a push to talk button would be more important to me if I were going out on pubs, instead of playing with people I hang out with anyways.

I'm in. My favorite mission in GTA 4 was the bank heist. I'm ready for an entire game like that.

Thinking of getting in on the 4 pack, looks kinda neat and I miss my L4D style fix.
