Dragons.

dragon1.jpg

A word that evokes images of large reptiles swooping in and burning down medieval villages. Surprisingly, this is one of the few instances where popular culture is pretty spot on. However, not all dragons breath fire, and some can't even fly.

In part thanks to the advent of better weaponry, the population of dragons dwindles. Although there has been a recent surge in their activity, they are still a rare creature to behold in modern days; unlike other monsters we don't recommend hunting them to extinction. For all intents and purposes they are natural creatures, however they are too dangerous to simply leave unchecked.

Dragons have many off shoots, being a shockingly adaptive species for one so long lived. While all have aspects in common, some are more closely related than others.

This said, we will discuss each dragon in the category that best represents them.

As always, I will be your guide,

    Lesser Dragons

Lesser dragons tend to lack size or power, but only by comparison with their betters. While they should not be thought of as easy prey, these are dragons easily dispatched through mundane means.

Only having eyes for you Fire Dragon

    dragon.gif.jpg

    469b_cnqvsrb7.jpg

By far the most common dragon, having had dealings with countless countries and people over the years. Hides range from a bright green to a dark brown, and fire ranging from hot, to hotter. They are intelligent for a predatory animal, and skilled at flight and aerial combat. If left unchecked they can easily ruin farmland and aren't clever enough to know when to go into hiding— that said, most tales of dragon slaying originate from these creatures.

Tactics advice: these are by far the lowest ranking dragon, to the extent that fighting one on your own is feasible. However keep in mind that defeating a lion by yourself in armed combat is also possible, just not highly recommended.

What lurks below, why it's the Sea Serpent

    Chinese_Sea_Serpent.jpg

    1000x499_4573_Slight_Disadvantage_2d_cartoon_viking_sea_serpent_monster_fantasy_picture_image_digital_art.jpg

Sea serpents are are a deceptive bunch. Despite their appearance as giant snakes, they are in fact proud members of the dragon family. Having traded in their wings for gills and fins, and their fire breath for an acidic ink, they are a peculiar sight to behold. However their years underwater have left them ill-equipped to properly handle surface opponents, readily defeated by a ship prepared for attack; but against one not prepared, they can easily devastate even the largest of cruise liners. An interesting note is that sea serpents are more willing to work in tandem; areas known to run ships aground or capsize them in storms are, in truth, often the hunting ground of several sea serpents working for a common goal. Namely drowning and eating as many people as they can manage.

Tactics advice: lacking the armoured hide of some of their kin, harpoons will easily punch through the scales of a sea serpent. A well placed one can end the attack before it's truly begun.

Making everything into a class war: Commoner Dragon

    Chinese-Dragon-Green-23-large.jpg

    Chinese-Dragon-Green-25-large.jpg

Despite the name, this is not a more common dragon. Instead it is a category of dragon based on the Qin Dynasty determining that only five clawed dragons are of note, and the rest became a symbol for the peasant class. The “commoner” Dragon is a surprisingly intelligent creature, wise beyond human years, and well versed in magic. However, they are less than physically impressive compared to dragons of similar size and their magics are just as easily stopped as those of your typical hedge mage.

Tactics advice: Commoner dragons are unlikely to engage a person in direct combat, due to their awareness of their own lack of power. More likely they are going to attempt stealth and guile. If you expect to face one of these creatures, be prepared for anything.

A little light in the claw, Faerie Dragons

    Faerie_dragon.jpg

    ps3-slim-skin-dragon-and-faerie-26484-p.jpg

Seemingly of fey origin Faerie dragons are one of the smallest dragons on record. Intelligent and tricky as all fey creatures are, the faerie dragon is not one for direct fights, preferring to instead flee leaving behind illusions to confuse the would-be foe.

Tactics advice: being a fey creature, pure iron weapons and tin armour is recommended. While the odds of needing to fight a faerie dragon are slim it is recommended you don't let your guard down— they are fey after all.

Zombie dragon would be under the undead guide. Except i didn't include it (it's kind of a special case I might do it at the end of this one for completeness sake) Dracolich was of course handled in the undead guide, by popular request.

    And wyrms?

currently we are debating what counts as a wyrm. As of right now it is a class of dragon based on age, and not a severate species. but with some of the names being a bit, shall we say, lacklustre, it could change.
    Liiya wrote:

depending on the type of dragon, they can't be tamed, but they can be befriended and become partners so long as they are treated with respect.

Dragon cults will often take pets of Fire dragons and the likes, but they at best trained attack animals and will just attack anything in its way.

But, perhaps we will discover a Christian the Dragon.
