Occupy Wall Street, Apparently

I haven't actually been in on the protests, although I have witnessed some of them and the accompanying police brutality (I want to work in regulatory compliance and I don't want to be a part of the "I hate all of you" movement") and I don't really think they're going to pull anything serious off, but this is some serious shit considering the overzealous response of the NYPD and the size of the protests.
There's conflicting reports on whether the NYPD led the protesters onto the Brooklyn Bridge or not, and although I'm inclined to assume this is a publicity ploy by the NYPD to justify getting a few hundred people off the streets, it's pretty much impossible to tell what is actually going on.
What do y'all think about this business?
Do you think it makes sense? Do you think they are in the right place or should they be in DC protesting the corruption of the government?
We're in a pretty serious situation in NYC and I want to know if y'all think this is going to spread to other cities in the US in a realistic way.
It's at least nice that all the unemployed 20 year olds did something, since it's pretty much just been the unemployed 50 year olds whining and marching for the last few years.
an awful lot of people I know are going to this, and a few friends of mine were arrested on the bridge
I support the general sentiment, and I've been tempted to turn out, but A) the lack of a real unifying ideology or even attempt at educating the protesters rubs me the wrong way, and Wall Street is the reason I'm able to go to school where I am and pursue the opportunities that I do, so it would be sorta weird for me to take up a sign and start marching
even so, this hasn't stopped a lot of other people I know to be in the same situation
Are all the news outlets still refusing to cover this at all?
Here and there they talk about it. Yesterday some news broke about Fox's attempted coverage of it. Fox interviewed some dude who was out-witting the Fox News guy so Fox didn't air the footage. Go fig.
I honestly feel like a not-insignificant portion of the younger protesters are getting into this not because of a particular political belief, but because they want to be able to truthfully say they were there (especially if something goes down or whatever)

It will be a shame when they spend all these days on the streets of New York under pain of arrest and police brutality only to skip voting for Obama because they had a thing and they thought he was safe in their district
someone i know said we're just getting ready for a repeat of may 68
except that directly resulted from something real in a much more centralized nation
this could certainly spin into something a little more substantial, but right now I think people are exactly as interested in this as there is time left before dinner

Yeah, I think this is really what makes up protesting in north america these days. Although it's ostensibly a protest, it seems like most people there are really just wanting to be there in case something goes down so they can take pics of themselves in the thick of it with their phones and then post them to their blogs.

they aired footage of a less eloquent protester
I am feeling sickened by the way the media is covering this, for the most part
and the NYPD can go fuck itself

Yes it can. I thought New York was supposed to be a great city and all that shit.

yeah
I mean, this stuff has certainly played some part in more successful protests (even if the sentiment was "I will be able to tell my kids I was there" instead of "I will be able to tell my twitter followers I was there")
but I really hope I'm just being overly pessimistic, because this protest especially seems like a lot of aimless post-adolescents trying to jumpstart a movement they get to say they were at the conception of

I absolutely agree.
This whole situation has gotten out of hand and I don't believe it will resolve itself in the favor of the protesters.
The best thing they have going for them is the unreasonable retribution of the NYPD. I don't think any of the people in Manhattan really feel safe from that control.

White people: not allowed to have opinions
god I hate white people
I find it suspect that they are protesting to just protest.
alls i have seen is that the NYPDis acting the fool, not any reason why people are there.
like the idea of passing the Buffett Tax sounds pretty dang good to me!
if you can get everyone there to agree that that is what it's about, I'm on board. You don't even have to move it to D.C.
White people: easily offended by jokes.
