the thing I hate about close spawns is when I defend some early bs, I should be way ahead and I should be able to go punish someone for doing some super risky all-in bs. Except that toss has forcefields and can block ramp forever, and terran has repair on their walls so I can't go punish those races.

Toss you can punish by containing them, terran is another beast.

Banelings? If a Terran has done an all-in, he won't have tanks for quite a while. You can't repair a wall through a baneling bust.

Searing and Blackwater gone combined with no close spanws on Metal and ST? My-oh-my. With a pool like that I may try to ladder my face off more this season.

Hulu also has some Korean TV stuff on it now. I watched "Girl Killer K" yesterday when I was really bored and was still VPN'd to work so I couldnt play sc2

I challenge anyone to match my mass laddering. ~320 wins this season so 700-750 ladder games played.

Oh man I love the map pool for this season. I don't actually have to veto any of these maps, they're all pretty good at very least.

Will probably veto XNC, Metal, and Shattered Temple just so I can FFE on any map in the pool <3

that's my big issue with the 2rax. THERE IS LITERALLY NO DOWNSIDE. At most, you're risking a coupld of scv's and a bunker, maybe some marines.

But if its going badly, the scv's retreat, marines retreat, you cancel/salvage the bunker - you've just spent a total of 25 min screwing with someones early game. i mean, what is the punishment there? If I go <=12pool, I've sacced econ. What does terran have to sac to pull off a 2rax?

tech, and it slows down the expansion. look at games where it gets shut down properly and tell me T isn't behind.

I actually like close spawns, its the crazy assortment of terran all-ins that ruin it.

far spawns are pretty much having to wait until 8 min to attack...

is this a joke? I cannot tell. you play zerg but you're also joe k.

Yeah if you react well (or at least can react/micro at about the same level as the terran), it puts the terran behind. I think the frustrating part of the 2rax + bunker rushes are the little nooks on the map where you can get the scv behind and un-targetable by lings. Also it can be pretty hard to target the scv when it is building on the far side of the bunker. And 11/11 1 proxy rax is sometimes hard to distinguish from 1 rax fe.

I still lose to them because I'm a baddie though.

Dammit, I long for the inevitable "instantly harvested gas" upgrade in the HotS campaign: Fat tubes running directly into the closest hatch is probably hoping for too much, but it would look great.

Heh, with all that warping technology you'd think the toss could warp the mineral patches close to their nexus.

takes too long to get teh nest up and lings morphed. you're in panic mode as soon as you see the bunker go down.

If you know your opponent is going to expand after a 2 rax, a roach speedling bust can be pretty good, but in every other situation I'd prefer to drone up 2 bases and contain.

What if the viper evolved from the queen? That seems like it would balance it, because it would be difficult to mass produce a bunch as soon as the lair tech was researched, so it would be possible to keep the viper on just lair tech like the overseer.

oh right! my excuse to not ladder is my tvt is not feeling good and I need to find a comfortable non-mech style. luckily we've just had an amazing tvt series where a non-mech player beat a mech player. what more could I ask for to analyze.

    Woo, promoted to Gold!

It's still placing me against players that are favored, as well, so maybe I'm doing better than I think and will be moving up into Plat before the end of the season.

E: Still kind of annoyed I ended up second in my division last season. 24 friggin' points.

    New map pool is:

    Xel'Naga Caverns
    Abyssal Caverns
    Antiga Shipyard
    Metalopolis (close spawns now disabled)
    Nerazim Crypt
    Shakuras Plateau
    Tal'Darim Altar LE
The Shattered Temple (close spawns now disabled)

I don't know if Blizzard could've done a much better job. I would be happy if this was the map pool for next season as well!

I will thumbs down nerazim and abyssal because I've never played on them and don't want to. antiga I've at least seen games on now so I feel more comfortable with it.

not that I really think it affects me, it's just my own perception but I'd rather not play on a map where I feel uncomfortable.

Nerazim and Abyssal are actually really good maps in my opinion. Abyssal seems like a good Terran map too. Easy to defend natural versus Zerg and lots of good spots for siege tank setups across the map. Close spawns are also pretty close.

    Couple of noob questions!

    1. Somehow I ended up in Silver after my placement matches. I won 2/5 games due to opponent disconnect (otherwise I would undoubtedly have lost all). Now I am just getting pummelled in every game. I really need to be down in Bronze (I did win about 50% of practice matches)! I have played quite a few games (maybe 10?) but still seem to be stuck in Silver. Ranked 99 so presumably I get demoted soon?

    2. How do I send replays to friends (who also have SC2)? I found what appeared to be the replay folder (under account etc) but the files seem a really small size (14k). Is this correct?

    1) You will get demoted when the system realizes its mistake. Shouldn't be too long.

    2) Yes, replays are super tiny.
