    Scientists took my job.

    And killed my father.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

    no, because:

Rich people get huge tacky SUVs because they're noveau riche assholes

    SUVs guzzle gas like hell

gas prices and thus oil prices rise

when oil prices rise the profitability for new north sea projects skyrockets, so that means more engineering jobs, off-shore jobs, supply industry jobs, and with all that a rise in spending which in turn fans the flames of the rest of the economy.

EDIT: So they make jobs. Just not for you.

I generally agree with you, but I want to point out that habitual opioid use can occur even in the absence of a euphoric experience.

That said, what you said above is spot-on: take the meds as they're prescribed, discontinue the meds when your doctor says so. Just following those instructions reduces the risk of habituation tremendously.

As someone who has a family history of prescription drug abuse I know it can happen outside the experience. But once again it is about taking the drugs as prescribed and follow your doctors directions you usually reduce the chance of an addiction forming.

There is a lot that goes into addiction more than just usage though. From culture, mental issues, genetics and other drug interactions and such.

The problem is that we are not giving the scientists enough money.

See, what we need to do is make scientists and rich people into the same exact people.

You maintain an odd conception of causality.

If we start reducing "job creation" to that which gave rise to a possibility, then the ultimate job producer is reality, and everything else is an arbitrary line away from that.

Because did the person who invented electronic computing create all these jobs based in electronic computing, or did the guy who discovered the electron create all these jobs?

And i'm pretty sure, by your logic, the chinese created all the jobs within the gun industry, since they invented gun powder.

Pfft, if science destroys a job then it was a shitty useless job anyway.

Actually, on a more serious note, do we have any statistics to show that automation ever increased unemployment on a national scale?

Mazzyx, your topic is literally about EXCITEMENT. How can it not be exciting.

Soccer on Curacao, an island with about 100k residents where it's always between 25 and 28 degrees C (Pretty hot for soccer) whose main sport is baseball, seems like a mostly futile exercise. (I do recall seeing a few soccer goals when I visited, but I'm pretty sure we didn't pass a decent full sized pitch).

I'm not so sure that automation the great job killer

I mean, not that much is actually automated

labour-intensive work just goes to less developed countries where the cost of labour isn't as high yet, rarely gets automated, really

EDIT: Not saying that more effective production techniques doesn't make things less labour intensive though
