This would be a crappy story if it didn't

Well, it could also just have everything work out. The kids were always meant to 'win the game', because in a video game where you can just restart every time you lose, you'll eventually win.

Yeah that turned out great for the trolls' universe, didn't it?

    Wait, no it didn't.

Well, it totally did. It was the kids session that fucked up.

    No, everyone fucked it up.

    Jade sent John the package.

Rose's shitty connection caused her to drop the car while the package was inside it, which led to the package going straight to Jack.

Vriska made sure that nothing would stop Jack from rising to power, and coming straight into their universe.

Karkat supposedly fucked up helping make the Genesis frog that became the kids' universe, which is apparently why it contained the tumor that
    creates the green sun.

And Gamzee also had a hand in things, too, though I'm not entirely sure how he influenced all this.

And I'm sure there's plenty more that I'm not thinking of at the moment.

Gamzee created Li'l Cal which eventually becomes Doc Scratch

    Ok, that makes sense.

The end of the conversation seems to imply he's about to launch into a tirade at John. It just seems weird that he'd stop and scroll back before continuing.
But that's definitely the Ultimate Riddle conversation.

also while the tumor is probably a result of the frog's cancer, Karkat also describes it as a series of unfortunate events.

So everything everyone else does is indirectly his fault.

Lemony Snicket is also his fault.

    I agree with Larlar that
the tweening on jade's animation is pretty disconcerting. The complete rigidity of her torso heightens the mechanical look of her arms. Also, the first time I watched I just spent the whole time laughing cause of how anime lexx always draws the kids. Anyway. It's a minor point for me, and frankly I'm inclined to be pretty forgiving over animation shortcuts because it's such a tedious mindfuck and takes so long to do it properly

It's certainly a minor point. The EOA 5 is wonderful. Congratulations to all the lexxies involved.

Of note is the fact that one of the conscious choices John did make [asking Vriska to put him to sleep] was the one that led to him becoming God Tier.

Yeah, by the end of Act 5 the story ruthlessly dealt with many characters who were not able to make difficult choices. Equius, Tavros, Dave when he wanted to make god tier...

Yeah it looks like there was more to the conversation that was cut off, but in their next conversation from Karkat's perspective he mentions the ultimate riddle again. I think it was in the ectobiology lab. I'm trying to find it now.

This was a quote from a previous OP, featuring Hussie and some other dude.

    What's Homestuck about?
(Hussie) Futility brought on by their own mistakes.

Yeah, at first I thought I had accidentally opened the file twice.

I mentioned this a while back in the borked thread, but I think it's something with the overdubbed tracks. The voices just don't blend. It's obviously four separate voices singing at the same time. It's a fairly minor thing, really, as the arrangement and even the singing itself is very good, but does give it that "off" feeling.

    It's probably simpler than that

The outer shell of the Tumor won't crack open and arm the bomb until it leaves a universe because of how it was designed. It was made in a universe that had to be doomed in order to carry out it's final ectobiology, so it needed to scape before it could detonate. Otherwise it would be in a dying universe.

oh oh oh I misunderstood what you meant by parent universe

it will create a brand new universe and a brand new earth. Assuming that the conditions of the troll scratch were universal, it will flip the kids and the guardians, so that the kids will become the parental figures of the guardians, and the guardians will be the ones to play the game. Most people are assuming that Jade's grandson penpal is in fact a young version of Grandpa Harley from the new universe.

the exiles from the scratch game will be sent to the scratch universe.

Again, assuming that the conditions of the troll scratch are universal, it will also mean that Doc Scratch will become their new First Guardian, and subtly guide events to lead to the summoning of Lord English.
