So I've been trying to work on a game for a while (see signature), and a relative of mine in the industry pointed me towards a game engine called the Unity engine, http://unity3d.com/unity
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the engine, or knows if it's really worth using. My actual programming experience is rather limited, so a high-level engine is definitely a plus, and I am working with a team to create something more complicated than a lil flash game.

Unity is pretty well-regarded, yeah. It's not going to solve all (or any, really) of the problems you'll have as a newbie programmer learning the work, but it's definitely a good system to be working in.
You're making an old school RPG, and you can't really program, so Unity is a little advanced for your purposes. GameMaker might be a better place to start.

I agree. Game Maker is probably a better bet.
Also "a lil flash game" is something you may not want to say, as your implication is that Flash sucks/cannot do much.
Recent versions of Flash support 3d, shaders, and a number of other concepts.
You can do a lot with Flash; your issue is that you can't program very well, but don't take it out on Flash.
