January: 4th year here at my first real job. Has it really been that long?
February: Go to work, go home, sleep a little, go to work...
    March: Turn 26
April: Moved in with roommates again, kind of bummed out, but saving $825 a month on rent. (Yes, really.)
May: Visit some friends in Austin, good times.
June: Go to work, go home, sleep a little, go to work...
July: Go to a friend's wedding in Cincinnati, fly to Alabama to visit my parents and drive around the South to visit some other friends. Also got promoted.
    August: PAX WOO
September: Go to work, go home, sleep a little, go to work...
October: Vegas. It was okay. I think I'm pretty satisfied with never hitting that up again.
November: Go to work, go home, sleep a little, go to work... and going home for Thanksgiving
December: Back in CA for two and a half weeks, and then back home again for the holidays

There have basically been two significant things that I did this year. In April I started taking classes at the community college. In May I got fired from my job. Instead of looking for another job I decided to take more classes and become a full-time student. It's going alright.

This year has been a roller coast of extremely low lows and pretty high highs. Can't complain mostly!

In 2012, I hope to get a new job, move to the next city over, lose some weight, and buy a toll tag.

At work, I spent the whole year trying to keep my company (well company I am a small partner in) alive and profitable while dealing with insane deadlines, clients who change their requirements constantly and then proceed to blame us when things are taking longer than expected because we've had to re-do large amounts of work three or four times, on top of trying to support other clients and dealing with problems that would not have arisen if a. we weren't so overloaded constantly or b. I had any idea what the fuck I was doing, resulting in my company having maybe a fifty-fifty chance of surviving until march.

Socially, I did pretty much nothing at all, with the occasional exception being when an old friend was coming back into town or leaving town and wanted to meet up, though nobody who is in town for any period of time seems to ever want to see me (gee I wonder why), plus a few special occasions (PAX east woo?).

I've also been "trying to move out" pretty much all year, which means I'll look on craigslist for decent-looking available rooms, go look at it, find something wrong with it no matter how nice/cheap/perfect it is, and proceed to be discouraged and do nothing more for like three weeks. All this despite the fact I'm currently dealing with an hour and a half long pain in the ass commute that effectively keeps me from doing anything that's at all interesting in the city, not that I would be able to bring myself to do it anyway.

So basically this year has been pretty much business as usual.

January - May: Finish junior year, partake in multiple theater shows/one act contests, take ap exams and pass, play video games, slowly reinforce old friendships
June - August: Summer, reinforce all my friendships a ton and hang out with friends all the time, build a new computer, played video games
September - October: do well in school, hang out with friends, video games, etc.
November: Ask a girl out for the first time and nothing happens from this, find out grandma has a tumor on her pituitary, worry about getting contacted by my mother, lots of stress as we await the surgery
December: Turned 18, tomorrow grandma has surgery, hopefully good times
    January-December: Lost 80 pounds
overall a good year, probably the best one I've ever had

I mean, I played video games and watched TV and some movies, and I mean, I enjoyed a lot of that, but I'm at a point where I know that I don't want to be at this job long-term, and that's about all I do know about what I want to do. Which feels really weird and I don't like it and I know this is a 2011 thread but I'm pretty sure that I don't want 2012 to be this big year of sitting on my ass like this one turned out to be.

I spent the first 4 months of the year looking desperately for a seasonal job with the federal government while wintering over in Virginia. I actually got that job in May and moved out to California. Spent May-October getting paid decently, enjoying the work I was doing (sometimes) and absolutely loving the area I was living in. Moved to Salt Lake City and now I'm spending the rest of the winter working for a ski resort and backcountry.com. Here's where I was living in California:

This is a good time to reflect on what you've done and maybe realize what you do want to change in the future (or not change). That kind of sounds like a fortune cookie but it feels right.

my year was pretty uneventful for the most part, a lot of working and just getting by.

January: Boyfriend moved in shortly after the year started which made for a wonderful change in my daily life (and cut out that boring commute to Oregon City a couple times a week).
April: Got the flu for the first time ever. It was pretty awful and I felt incredibly useless for a week. Got sick many more times because my supervisor has basically no immune system and I work with a lot of moms that bring in their children's illnesses.
July-August: Shot a lot of guns for independence day and many other days. Also became staff for and attended the only furry con that doesn't suck balls due to it being run by people who aren't idiots and being a camping con, further discouraging the kind of furries that make cons awful.
September-Now: More working and doing little else outside of that due to boyfriend getting laid off. Managed to knock down the heftier chunk of my debt so I'm halfway back to being debt free.

At this point I am mostly just looking forward to filing my taxes so I can get my sweet sweet tax return and push myself further from debt (or squander it on things I want but don't need)

    2011 pretty much sucked.

On January 1st I took a new job which promised to be awesome but by March was struck with a severe financial hardship. Because I'm such a nice guy I tried to tough it out but ultimately the company folded up and I was left with 5 figures of lost wages I will probably never see. (even though I could sue for backpay).

I took a new job last month and it's alright, but it's definitely a compromise/desperation heave.

As a result of being under constant stress and pressure from getting paid rarely and for less than what I was used to making, I made absolutely zero progress in my social life or really anything other than feeding myself and keeping the electricity on.

I look forward to 2012 being a year of getting real paid and doing stuff like upgrading my wardrobe, which mostly consist of clothes I bought during or immediately after high school (I am 24), and buying girls dinner, etc.

Really 2011 was the most uneventful and stagnant year of my adult life. It wasn't bad per se. It was just totally neutral. I basically ended up exactly where I started.

Munkus, if there is any goodness in the universe, 2012 will be nothing but hookers and cocaine for you.

March: heard back from all the colleges I applied to, sent SIR to UCSB
June: finally graduated high school! Finally!
    September: start college finally

So I guess it has actually been a momentous year for me? Personally I found it dull and lackluster but there you go.

Started college at the completely useless age of 31 back in January. Also was just starting to be able to run again after spending seven months healing up from a bike wreck and related surgery. Got extremely sick and had to drop Spring quarter. Missed summer classes. Got shit straightened out and into Fall classes. Also met a new girl right before Fall quarter started and she became my first steady lady-friend since my divorce, and she's rad.

That's pretty much it. Noteworthy things don't happen to me anymore. I drift through life in a very calm and casual manner, evading anything overly notable, be it positive or negative. This is why I will never die, because death is an important thing and important things don't happen to me.

2011 started out well, but has pretty much turned into an shitty year.

January: Stuff is rad - cool job, cool girlfriend
February: Learn I'm losing my job because Borders was a terribly-run company
March: Get to experience the worst in customers while the job I loved slowly disintegrates around me
April: Store closed, lost job that I really liked - got insanely drunk with said girlfriend and threw up a lot as the result of alcohol for the first time.
May: Ended school semester, sat around without getting job because unemployment was a little fun.
June: Got a new job - retail again. Not a great job but could be worse.
July: Turned 23. Roommate/best friend moved in with his girlfriend, forcing me to find a new place.
August: Found new place. It's kind of a closet but its cheap and cozy.
September: Got broken up with by girlfriend. On our one-year anniversary. And a week later she got with some other dude.
October: Moped. A LOT. Living completely alone for the first time in my life is driving me insane.
November: Started therapy for depression and social anxiety. Nothing clinically or morbidly serious, but still sucks.
December: Vowing to build social life and go on dates and shit. We'll see.

Could definitely be worse, judging from the rest of this thread though. So yeah, for 2012, there's nowhere to go but up.

2011 has not been bad at all

    - Got to taste life at American college (well, community college :P)
    - Adopted two cats!
    - Went back to England for a whole two weeks (thank you, boss who allowed me to use some not-yet-accrued vacation time), and actually got to take Mori with me
    - Ending the year ~10 lbs less than I weighed at the start, despite being pregnant!
    - Got a new, not-ideal-but-definitely-better-than-before job

There have been a few bum notes, but they have definitely been outweighed by the good notes!

However, 2011 also feels like the run-up to 2012... 2012 is going to be the year of baby, possibly a house, my mother and siblings visiting me, and hooooopefully a British Christmas!

mentally i will say the second half of 2011 has been an odd one for me.

over the past few months I've really started thinking about my own mortality for some reason. never used to really bother or concern me in the least. It's a weird mix of depression and ambition.

Either way, looking forward to what 2012 will bring. 2011 pretty a pretty awesome year for me overall.

January through March I had my most stressful courses for a variety of reasons. I got my first C in a course since starting college. The entire experience killed any enthusiasm I had for grad school.

June-August was unable to find summer work, no summer courses were offered that I needed so I slacked off like a piece of shit and lived on the bare minimum.

August I decided I wasn't going to apply for grad school.

August to now has been freaking out over graduating with a worthless liberal arts degree. I want nothing more than to work instead of doing schoolwork, even if it's stupid menial labor, but I'm terrified of being unemployed. I've been unemployed for a year and a half now, and I'm terrified that this will make it impossible to get any job once I graduate. Moving back in with my parents is not an option.

So, in summation, this year I entirely shifted my life direction (From I Want To Be a Professor to Oh god please no more school just let me be a cashier for the rest of my life) and have spiralled into increasing depression/anxiety.

Of course, all of this is fucking peanuts compared to what most of ya'll have gone through.

2011 was a pretty big year for me! I moved out of my dad's place, got a new job doing IT for a little bit, making a living on my own for the first time. Then I went to my first PAX which was super amazing awesome and that got me an internship at ArenaNet where I am now living my dream as a professional animator! I'm so excited to see what next year has in store.
