All of the "Free" games are from a company called TryMedia, who's description says that they're going to offer the latest in free, trial, and purchasable games via bittorrent.

It's probably safe to say that these games are DRM'd and will expire shortly after you install them, if they aren't demos in the first place. Give them a shot though, let us know what the limitations are.

I'll get C4 after work and have a look at it then. How big are the downloads (as in, download size)? Are they compressed much/at all?

    Uh

    Uplink is on there too

Isn't that being sold on Steam?

Edit: Oh, if they are drm'd, fair enough. I'll still see.

I'm sure they'll be cracked (not that I condone it).

Then again, it's seemingly false advertising, so..

More Windows-only DRM? It's almost as if these places want me to continue pirating music and movies *. Well, I'll be happy to oblige **.

DOA, just like that craptastic Wal-Mart video store. Give me a fucking break.

    * hypothetically speaking
    ** in theory

Night of the Living Dead has been free since it was made, right? Something about Romero not putting a copyright mark on the film's title or something?

I look at it this way. If there IS legitimate torrent usage such as this, it adds to the overall longevity of torrent as a whole. Up until now, I see open source software distribution (linux, etc.), WoW patching, and not much else that is distributed via Torrent. Here we have something that is even done by the movie studios, even if it has downsides. Hopefully this means that ISPs, colleges, etc., will not have as much reason to block torrents en masse.
Christ, no. At the very least, colleges should block torrents without exception, regardless of how legitimate it is. My connection is completely devastated by the jerkoffs in my dorm who hog all the bandwidth all day long. Bittorrent has no place in an environment where a connection is shared by many people.

Uh. No, not at all. My college for instance bans bittorent, and we have a friggen 60kb/s download cap. There are HUNDREDS of legal uses for bittorent, not the least of which is getting demos, patches, and numerous other game related things faster.

The POINT of bittorent is to share it between many people!

    Wikipedia wrote:
Night of the Living Dead lapsed into the public domain because of the neglect of the original theatrical distributor, the Walter Reade Organization, to place a copyright notice on the prints. In 1968, United States copyright law required a proper notice for a work to maintain a copyright. Image Ten displayed such a notice on the title frames of the film beneath the original title, Night of the Flesh Eaters. The distributor removed the statement when it changed the title. According to George Romero, Walter Reade "ripped us off."

What I don't get about these download services is that they're selling something that has inherently less value than the equivalent obtained on CD or DVD, but they set the prices the same or higher than formats without DRM. I'd be willing to use a DRMed download service (like, say, iTunes) if it was dramatically cheaper than the equivalent physical media.

If they could put together a system that didn't depend on hardware or software from a single supplier, that would be nice too.

I just have to laugh at this. This is such a limp wristed attempt at supplying a legal alternative its entertaining.

DRM is not the future, idiot corporations.

    So, lemme get this straight.
It's BitTorrent we all know and love. Except now you pay them money to download. And then you can't keep the file. And the bandwidth is hosted by, surprise, you.

    I pay for YOUR bandwidth?
    Heh, yeah right.

Well I'm going to try it out with one episode and let you know how it goes. So far, so good. Site is fast, paying is easy and I'm getting 500 KB/s despite there only being 2 seeders. I'm guessing they're providing some of the bandwidth themselves.

Already it's leagues better than Amazon Unbox.

    (edit)

    seeders.jpg

Yep, it looks like they are supplying some bandwidth. I don't intend to help seed until they lower the prices though. ;)

And the stupid video won't play in Zoom Player WMV Pro. Boo to that. Also, for some reason the unused space in fullscreen is an annoying gray color. It looks kind of like the hardware overlay color; it might be some silly DRM trick or something. Quality is good though. Still, I don't think I'll buy anything more until they get FairUse4WM working again.
