Music Editing Help?

A friend recommended the song "Days" by The Drums to me and I decided to check it out on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RnU-WGbORI

Loved the song but, unfortunately, when I purchased it off of iTunes it was much slower. Going back and looking at the video description on YouTube I discovered that the guy who had put the video together sped it up for copyright reasons.

Normally I'd simply pull the song off of YouTube, but there are a few "bumps" and "scratches" in the song. Does anyone know of a way to take my music file and speed it up?

Well, windows media player has a play speed option, and you could probably find a way to record it. Other than that I'm not sure.

    Audacity'll do it.

Hmmm any further tips on how to use it?

And thanks to both so far for the suggestions.

Here's a quick pictorial guide for altering audio speed in Audacity:

    1. Open up Audacity and import your audio file (File > Import > Audio).

    2. After Audacity has loaded it up, select the entire file by pressing Control+A, so that it looks like this:

    3. Go to Effect > Change Tempo (or Change Speed - both have their drawbacks; Change Speed will affect the pitch of the music, whereas Change Tempo can introduce strange warbling artifacts with certain sounds if you bump it up too much. That said, I'd recommend Change Tempo since you're altering music and the pitch content is important).

    4. Drag the slider slowly across, previewing each time until it plays the speed you want.

    Hope this was helpful! :)
