The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
It's a whole new ballgame! Major League Baseball 2K7 redefines the pure baseball video game experience with true, next-gen details, all-new throwing mechanics and a revolutionary presentation system. Fielder positioning, relay and cutoff A.I. has been redesigned to allow for better, more authentic Major League defensive play.Defensive alignments are now based on who is at the plate. The Dynamic Throwing System is a responsive throwing mechanics coupled with unique animations for infield, outfield and situational throws. On the stats side, Inside Edge data is now tied into control at the plate. Playing into your pitcher's or hitter's strengths will now reward you with a boost in hitting power. And with the power of next-generation consoles, everything that you see about the players -- faces, body type, accessories, uniforms and hats -- match their real-world counterparts down to the minutest details.
Videos - The videos in my opinion look really good, player animations and whatnot.
Screens - Screens look good too, eyes of players are still a little creepy but aside from that it's looking better than before.
So anyone else picking this up? Once I get used to it I'd love to play against anyone on Live, (Since I'm assuming this has online play) using the Braves of course.
I'm a sucker for a good baseball game -- I really am -- but last year's iteration was a bit of a sloppy letdown.
Yeah, last year I just stuck with playing MLB2K5 on the PS2. However I've been without a baseball game for a good while now. I'm guessing 2K fixed what they messed up with 2K6. I should probably read more though, I sort of forgot about the reason I never bought 2k6.
The demo is definitely solid. It feels a lot like 2K6 but much more polished.
Yeah. After the shit sandwich that was 2K6 I was pretty worried about this year's, but this one just plays much better and actually even looks like a 360 game. I'll be picking it up tomorrow.
I'm kind of excited. I bought MLB 06 The Show last year because it was pretty similar to High Heat, but it didn't really last. I do kind of want to wait for the reviews to see how season mode is too, though.
Downloading the demo now -- do you get to choose from the two league champs like most sports game demos (Tigers vs. Cardinals), or do they stick you with Yankees vs. Yankees?
with all the positive remarks, i'm gonna have to check this out. but i'm also looking forward to mlb the show also.
damn, i really wish ea could still make mvp for mlb. 2005 was a great game.
Yeah, after 2k6 turned out to be crap I've stuck to MVP 2005 to get my baseball on. I'll wait for the reviews to see if this manages to better EA's last licensed MLB game.
God I hate exclusive licenses. I'd rather play 2K's NFL games and EA's baseball.
Edit: Although the annoying thing with 2k7 is they killed the cube version after last year, and 2k8 is scheduled to be the first Wii version. So lame.
I loved World Series Baseball 2002 on the Dreamcast. After the abysmal 2k1, they really turned it around.
I haven't played a WSB or MLB game since. As I understand it, these games evolved from World series baseball, so I'll be picking it up. I just hope it's as playable as WSB2k2 was.
Done about 2 exhibition games so far. Really loving it. Day-time games look a lot better than night games (like in the demo) and overall everything is very solid.
The pitching system is a lot more in depth than I first thought. I didn't realize at first that you're choosing where you want the ball to break, and not where you want it to end up. I was looking in the instruction manual and realized this. Makes you think more about where you're placing your pitches and how you throw them.
I'm really liking the game. I haven't played a baseball game since MLB2K5. I've only done two exhibition games but I'm really liking it.
Visually (I'm playing on a SDTV)- The games look a lot better in the day time, rather than at night like in the demo. The animations are spot on and popular players often have specific animations which is nice. I noticed the sun changes position as the game goes on, later innings I was in the shade. Very nice. Also, the wind was blowing pretty hard for a few innings and you can see the jerseys and everything waving in the wind.
Audio - The commentary is pretty standard, pretty much what I remember from 2K5, it's not bad by any means but it's nothing particularly special. Same goes for sound effects, good, but nothing to write home about.
Presentation - Typical 2K Sports, their presentation is great. From pre-game to instant replays, play analysis, and post game, it's everything you could ask for. During cut scenes the camera acts in such a way that it emulates a TV camera. It'll sometimes zoom in to a players face as he steps up to the plate and when it does that you can see the focus shift and the background will be blurry for a second as it shifts. Very nice little details. Probably still a lot more to be seen as far as presentation goes as you play more, I've only done two exhibition games so far.
Pitching - Pitching is something I really like. Lots of options with your pitches, I like that you choose where you want the ball to break, rather than where you want it to end up. Not a lot to say about it, except that it can definitely put the pressure on you if you start messing up.
Batting - The swing stick is something new for me, and I love it. It gives you more freedom with swings and allows you to change your mind much more quickly. Pull back and release for a normal swing, just push forward for a defensive swing, pull back and push forward for a power swing, and then there are other options for bunting and what not. It feels very natural and fluid.
Overall - While I've not seen the season/franchise/online play yet, I'm very pleased with the game prime facie. Just based on what I played, it feels like a very solid baseball game, that can be a ton of fun with some friends. It's a beautiful looking game that plays great with few apparent flaws.
Did they ditch that dumb "hit the buttons to run fast" base-running mechanic from last year? Or at least fix it so that it doesn't only apply to the batter while the rest of your runners dog it between the bags and you constantly get thrown out?

Yeah, I just got this for the Wii, and man does it kick ass! Lunging for ground balls with Michael Young, changing arm angles on my fastball with Pedro Martinez, trying to slap one through the right side with Ichiro, or just losing it and crushing one with Big Papi... nothing really compares to the experience. There's even this awesome function that compensates for you playing with your "off-hand" (i.e., a right-handed player controlling a left-handed pitcher) by giving you a scaling handicap! Man, this has got to be the game of the year so far...
Or, at least, it would be if not for the fact that IT DOESN'T FUCKING EXIST. WHAT THE EVERLOVINGGODDAMNSHITFUCK!!!!??!?!?
I am seriously going to be locked in permanent angry-face until the above game is released. Daisuke Matsuzaka is pitching against my BC Eagles on Friday, and even this isn't enough quench my thirst for the blood of EA and 2K Sports executives for not supporting the Wii this year.
Zimmydoom, Zimmydoom
Flew away in a balloon
Had sex with polar bears
While sitting in a reclining chair
Now there are Zim-Bear hybrids
Running around and clawing eyelids
Watch out, a Zim-Bear is about to have sex with yooooooou!

Though beating the achievements was almost ridiculously simple.

Go A's!
And I really liked the demo so yeah, definitely picking this up tomorrow.

Very good stuff.

Astros at Braves, bottom of the 9th, I was down by one.
Chipper's up to bat first, 1st pitch ball on the outside. 2nd pitch I smash and it just squeaks by the foul post and is called a HR.
Tie game
Then comes in Andruw, first pitch I just smash and goes straight in the center of the field and out of the park with a walkoff homerun. Whoo
That felt good.
I'm getting ready to read the IGN review now. I'm really getting excited for the beisbol season.
Edit: According to the review, the sprint-mashing is gone.

ARGH.
Have you ever played High Heat Shim? I wondering how it feels in comparison, because I haven't liked a baseball game as much as I did HH 04.
Any good?
Early impressions, but none of my thoughts have really changed even after I've played more.
