Anything other than an official announcement is just a guess. Even with Blizzard's reputation, people still think that someone out there can guess it or find a leak. The probable truth is that they still haven't decided yet, and they won't until they're good and ready. The idea that they would secretly publish a release date to retailers who are notoriously bad at keeping those secrets is just absurd. Retailers are just trying to milk the situation for hype and pre-orders.
Besides, all the blue posts lately say there are still parts of the game they are unhappy with. The rune system still isn't finished. Why the heck would they commit to a release date when they aren't done?
Rules: Each participant will private message me their pick for the date Diablo 3 will be released(Eastern Standard Time), as well their pick for what date Blizzard will ANNOUNCE the release date, as a tie breaker. Dates are on a first come first serve basis. Your entry can't have the same announce and release date as another participant. One or the other is allowed. The dates I have chosen are an exception since I can't win the prize. The release date is the actual day of release in case the date is pushed back from thier initial announced release day. The announcement is for the day they announce the release date, even if that release date is not met.
Registration End Date: Friday January 13th 11 PM EST
Contest End Date: 3 weeks before the announced release date, or the day of the announcement of the release date(if shorter than 3 weeks). This is in case the release date is pushed back.
Prize: Torchlight on steam! this is a bonus, predicting a blizzard release date means you're a wizard so you don't need much else!

Yeah there is no way the game is coming out Feb. 1st. Even if they decided TODAY that it was 100% done and the game had gone gold, there is no way they can produce enough copies to ship in ~3 weeks. Nevermind there are still issues like the ratings board in Korea (I think?) saying the AH is "gambling"
Didn't they say that Korea wouldn't delay the release though?
I assume that if Korea were the main reason for non-release, they'd just get it out elsewhere and worry about them a-holes later.

I don't think it will, but I also think it's something they plan to have resolved by the time they are ready for release. I mean, it's kind of clear they aren't done yet. Just based on things they've said, I think for example, they *just* finished runes (since they keep changing their minds on how they will work) and still aren't 100% sure if they are happy with the implementation or not. I also still feel like they need to fix the Demon Hunter for early game to be more fun (maybe she is fun late game, I dunno. But every other class is way more fun than her in beta).

Aww, really? DH looked the coolest to me (I'm not in the beta).
Just wondering - does anyone else have horrible performance with this? My rig is more than up to speed for it, but i can't play the damn thing with its constant stutters...

I think DH would be fine if they would mix up her skills a bit. A lot of the early skills are just too similar to each other. Some like Evasive Fire are just outright bad.

DH remains the most fun for me after 3 or 4 (or thereabouts)--admittedly, I vastly prefer ranged to close, and I like how it handles multiple targets short of "click this to attack EVERYBODY mkay?".
Blizzard has released some games on other days, but those were WoW expansions. I'd count those as an entirely different beast.
Starcraft 2 did come out on a Tuesday, however.
They have, but not the WoW expansions. WoW and all its expansions were released on Tuesday in the U.S. The only ones I know of for sure that weren't released on Tuesday were D2 and LoD. I don't remember when War3 and TFT were released, but I think they were on Tuesdays.
I'm not sure I would necessarily interpret a tweet as confirmation that all engines are go for the console version. We've known they're exploring a console version for a while, but last anyone has heard, and I think is still the case, they are still trying to figure out if and how they can make it work. It's unlikely to appear in 2012, at any rate.
Personally, I could never imagine playing Diablo games with anything other than KBAM. Although Torchlight handled well on the 360.
What about with a tablet screen?
Actually don't all the consoles support standard USB keyboards? You could go wireless or get an extension. Of course that's assuming the game supports it, which it probably would, given that chatting is a main feature of multiplayer.
Ah well I've been planning to get a new PC soon anyway.

Hah, actually a tablet might work out well too.
Fucking Diablo, man. I can't wait. I need to get playing the beta more. The holiday season/end of year work insanity kept me away from it, but now I don't have an excuse.
I'm fondly reminiscing about the SoJ economy of Diablo 2, and how eventually that bubble burst. Economics in motion!

There is nothing new about that tweet. They've been saying for forever now that there is a console team. Doesn't mean the game will ever see the light of day.
Edit: Oh, and WC3 ROC came out on a Wednesday as well.
Wikipedia disagrees.
Release date(s) EU / NA January 16, 2007
Edit: I see Skab has already recanted.
Anyway, there are vague rumblings about Blizzard ordering up warehouse storage space in Germany or something, and we might be getting some more up to date info on various game mechanics/systems.
Gotta keep twiddlin' those thumbs.
Forar on
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!
There's some big official blizzard meeting going on and everyone on the D3 forums is expecting news soon. That probably means nothing, but one can always hope.

You people should pay more attention!
Well, for what it's worth, the tweet doesn't just say "there is a team exploring the option" or something, it directly answers the question with "yes." Not that it's surprising anyways, there is no reason whatsoever not to rake in a few more millions.

Jay Wilson at one of the panels at Blizzcon last year:
We’ve hired people to work on the console. We have an internal team. We’ve spoken about it since it helps with hiring. We think Diablo 3 will work on console, we’ve experimented with controls, etc. But it’s essential to us that it not compromise the PC game at all, and it doesn’t feel like a crappy port to console either. Both should stand alone and work nicely. But we’re not announcing anything until we’re more sure about it.
So, D3 on consoles. Don't know what to think of this development. If it's just going to be some single-player spin-off or separate realm, then whatever. If it's going to be on full parity with PC, I am not going to be looking forward to decreased numbers of delayed updates due to certification.
It does make sense that they'd want to cash in on the big market though.

This is kind of off topic but with D3 around the corner and because my WoW account was hacked about 8 months ago, it's kind of relevant.
Just downloaded the Battle.net Authenticator app, but I haven't attached it to my bnet account yet because I am a little worried about the account if I lost my phone. I'm not sure if I'm better off buying one of those security key fobs or not.
If I were to attach the app to my account, on a scale of 1 - Fucked, how bad would it be if I were to lose my phone?

You can get Customer Service to unlink them, and it's a bit painful to sit through the call queues and get it done, but it's entirely doable.

You guys are engaging in pointless speculation.
Were talking about Blizzard in general.

Rather like the Amazon before her, as it happens.
Different strokes.
Plus, I've seen vids of runed versions of some of the DH later skills. Theres nothing to worry about.

I think the only DH skill I saw runed was "grenade". I was unimpressed.

Well I'll be damned, it did.
I believe SC2, TBC and Cataclysm all came out on a Tuesday.
Guess WLK skipped my mind, but it was the expansion at which I abandoned WoW, so that might explain it.
TBC came out on a Wednesday.
Edit: Oh, and WC3 ROC came out on a Wednesday as well.
Skab, TBC was released on January 16, 2007, a Tuesday.
omg the prophecy is true! 2012 really is the end of the world!
I had no idea that a Diablo 3 console version was on the cards. As my PC is rubbish, this makes me VERY happy.
