A couple other thoughts:
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together is also a port, but I haven't played it enough to know how much of an upgrade it is (if at all). I'd cut it.
I'd say it's a new game. New leveling system, DLC, new character among other things make it feel like a brand new game instead of just port.
EDIT: Sadly, NOT my GOTY.
DLC?? Huh buh whu?
edit: Oh, whatever it is is included on disc in the NA and EU versions.

Also a new script by Alexander O. Smith.
Some more nominations:
Corpse Party (PSP)
Fate/Extra (PSP)
Sanctum (PC)
Anomaly: Warzone Earth (PC)
Came up with some more missing potential entries
Puzzle Agent 2 (PC*)
Waves (PC*)
Serious Sam: The Random Encounter (PC*)
From Dust is listed with incorrect platforms. It should be (PC*, 360*, PS3*)
Capsized (PC*)
A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda (PC*)
Dwarfs!? (PC*)
Not all games I'm going to vote for, but it's amazing how much stuff you can be reminded of by looking through your Steam account.
I made a list with some of my friends (thanks in particular to Jragghen).
d'awww
If there's any particularly mislabeled stuff/things that were included when they shouldn't have been, it's probably on me - let mcc know so he can remove 'em. For example:
I'm abit confused as to why the PS3 version of House Of The Dead: Overkill is included when it's largely just a port of the 2009 Wii game
I went through Wikipedia's "video game releases of 2011" page or something like that, and picked out all the ones that I'd heard of/heard at least moderately good things about which might make it onto some peoples' list, which helped populate things. But if it's a late re-release or anything like that (Mass Effect 2 was released on one platform this year, but others the previous year, but I knew enough to not include it), odds are I didn't realize. If there's stuff that should be culled, by all means, speak up.
e: Just realized from my copy/pasta - mcc, you'll want to do a search/replace for Win to PC. Sorry bout that.
Is it all possible to redo the poll in June/July (i.e. every 6 months)? I'd be curious to see what happens after people have time to think about it, and time to finish 2011's games.
Edit: Or run last year's poll along side with the current year.

Hope so, since it's totally in my GotY list, epic fun. And it should be, since it has some completely different game modes than the phone versions, not least of all co-op and vs multiplayer controlled by your entire bodies simultaneously in 1:1 3D space simultaneously instead of just one player's solitary finger on a screen. More than just a port.
Shame Beyond Good & Evil HD is probably too much a straight port though, that would be another of my favourite games this year.
Also, massive thanks for doing this again mcc, this is the greatest list by far, every year (even if it doesn't always tally with my opinion).

I don't think that's necessarily the case. Mass Effect 2 took it last year even though it hit in February and a number of people have brought up Dead Space 2 which is in the same position.
Looking back the previous years' polls, man alive was 2007 a good year. We've basically been playing and looking forward to sequels to games in that top 12 for the last couple of years.

If a game is good enough, the impression sticks.
Not to mention even though the industry is getting better. Releases are still Fall/Winter heavy.

I think it's more the opposite. Games which come out late in the year, bargain hunters don't get a chance to play (Skyrim, etc) and so they aren't able to properly "judge" games which were released late in the year because they haven't played them - so their list ends up being very early-in-the-year heavy.
And then there's people with enormous backlogs like me, who are a good 2 or 3 years behind :P
Basically, I wouldn't mind a "2011's 2010 game of the year" type list to see how things changed, but participation in it would probably drop like a rock in comparison to the actual one, so it wouldn't be as useful.
I'd like to nominate Trackmania: Build to Race for Wii. It finally came out in America in March 2011.
Since this is also the only game that came out in 2011 that I played (with a reasonable amount of time to be able to comment on it), I guess that makes it my GOTY by default.
It could possibly be everyone's racing GOTY if only more people tried it out. No reason not to when it's only $8 new, $4 used. For all intents and purposes, this is the F-Zero game we wanted on Wii.
Top 20, dang... my top 10 is already basically all the games from this year that I have played yet. I should try to get into Batman, Witcher 2, and Deus Ex so I can rank them rather than just playing Skyrim all the time.
Thanks everyone for the help! I have added all the suggestions so far (unless I missed something?!)
Dumped House of the Dead PS3, left some of the others including tactics ogre (for now?!). I'm saying no to Sonic CD or BG&EHD. I'm... including Bangai-O Missile Fury, that sounds substantial?! I included Raskulls under the suteF rationale.
Is Fruit Ninja downloadable or disc? Looks like it's downloadable
Does Cthulhu Saves the World make the cut? It was released on PC in July, and the XBLIG release was December 30th last year which is awful close to the wire
It got eight-first place last year, placing just ahead of Mafia 2 and Deathspank.
As much as I want to punch myself in the balls for saying it, Radiant Silvergun should not be on the list. It is a port which you've mentioned doesn't get a mention. If it stays, add Guardian Heroes to the list.
According to Wikipedia, the Saturn version of Radiant Silvergun actually never got released in the U.S.! So unless I'm missing something I'm going to count it. (We've listed NES and Genesis games before if XBLA/VC was their first legal introduction in the U.S.)
Also if people want to do off-season things with my poll script, I will (and have in the past) share the source code on request (and can maybe host votes myself as long as someone else does all the work, I think we did that at one point in the last year or two)
Haven't actually played it (hell I don't even own a smartphone) but I've heard alot of people say that Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP (iOS) was the iPhone GOTY. P.S. the W in sorcery isn't a typo that is actually how they spell it
Currently debating whether NBA Jam: On Fire Edition is a port or a fully fledged sequel. Pretty sure the career mode is completely overhauled and there's aload of other tweaks. Anyways if it does count it is (360*, PS3*)
MLB 11: The Show, MLB 2k12, NHL 12, Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 should be in the list as well. Thanks!

Madden '12 (or however it is called) also should be there; I remember last year, someone was kinda upset that it wasn't on the chart, but no one spoke up about it at any point in the nomination process!
Edit: Also -
Where's My water? (iOS, Android)
Elder Sign: Omens (iOS, Android)
no, really, it is quite good! I know including every facebook/iOS game under the sun would be insane, but quality ones should be there.

Yeah, same places as always.
Warhammer 40K: Kill Team (360, PS3, Download Only)
Those are the only two that I played and didn't see on the list.
We were all a little worried :?

So, aside from Fruit Ninja Kinect:
Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012.
Just Dance 3.
Rocksmith (X360/PS3)
Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone (X360/PS3[Download only])
I'm going to guess that HALO: CE Anniversary doesn't count.
It was remade from the ground up. It deserves a shot.
Atom Zombie Smasher (PC)
Toy Soldiers: Cold War (XBLA)
Thanks again for putting this together, mcc!
Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury (XBLA)
Hacker Evolution Duality (PC*)
Really Big Sky (PC*)
Section 8: Prejudice (XBLA, PSN, PC*)
Scoregasm (PC*)

I'm biased? How dare you! My avatar and signature? That's not from Ocarina of Time. That's from Iceman Air Foot. Yeah, that's it.

I want to combine them into one listing. I'm not sure how best to do this. Currently I'm planning to list UMvC3 only.

Jetpack Joyride (iOS)
Temple Run (iOS)
Edit: And also,
Need For Speed: The Run (every platform known to mankind)
Skydrift (PC, XBLA, PSN)
Trackmania 2: Canyon (PC)
(Seriously doubt many would even consider it over Shogun 2, but it's there... )
I'm not 100% sure if the Mac version came out in 2010 or not, but most people play the PC version which definitely came out in 2011.
