Portlandia Season 2 - Renewed for another season of hijinx.
The second season of the quirky sketch comedy show about the quirky, weird city of Portland, Oregon started today on IFC, and airs Fridays at 10pm EST. This season is 13 episodes, and going by the first episode I can tell it's going to be a very funny season (mostly because Portland is my hometown, and they NAIL that city so well). Portlandia stars Fred Armisen of SNL fame and Carrie Brownstein, of the popular NW alt-rock band Sleater-Kinney, in various sketches being either themselves or the numerous characters they've devised that make up the strange scene of Portland.
The Battlestar Galactica sketch really hit home for me and my wife; in addition to living in Portland we're going through it on netflix. Good to see that...
Adama and Baltar survive to be in the new episode

I love this show. That's my friend Sid on the stilts in the parade in season 2, episode 1. Having all the locations and locales used being actual places is the best. It really does make the show that much better if you actually live here.

My least favorite was anything involving that girl guitarist trying to play at random places then dreaming about... horses or whatever. Just got too esoteric for me.

The only sketch I didn't really like from the first season was the cacao one, actually.
I'm generally not a fan of the cross-dressing couple sketches, but the cacao one was good. My absolute least favorite is the Japanese kids visiting the coffee shop. Grating.

Yeah it was pretty annoying but I liked it when Fred spoke in perfect English. That makes me find the sketch "okay"

In the beginning, I was worried the "Tim and Eric-ness" would overwhelm the show (like in that sketch about the "Mind-Fi" or whatever it was) but it definitely found its own voice. Its pretty great, and yesterday was a strong premiere

The mayor's assistant in season one is actually our mayor, Sam Adams.
So are the Dave and Kath characters (Dog Park, Tied up dog skit) the same ones who set up at the concert/movie in the park? I think those are one of my favorite character sets.

Portland's a pretty awesome city. It gets a bad rap for hipsters, but they're not NEARLY as prevalent as others would let you believe. Plus, it's fantastic if you love to bike.
This show is quite amusing. But it makes me want to never set foot in Portland.
Why? Not all of Portland is like this.
I'm mostly being facetious. I'm sure the show mostly focuses on the extreme Portland stereotypes. The crazy characters get odd looks from everyone they encounter.

The funny part is that it's not even Portland stereotypes -- you can find people like this in most any big city on the US, particularly on the coasts. I have friends in New York who could very well be in Portlandia.
Do they have an episode where they were going to film an episode, but it starts pouring rain and they can't and the rain doesn't stop for six months and then rickets? Because that's Portland to me.

My girlfriend got me to watch this as we are both Twin Peaks fans and love Kyle MacLachlan. We ended up watching all of them, and the whole thing was just excellent (I love all of the "Women and Women First" ones), with the exception of the "Sparkle Pony" episode (which just didn't really do it for me).

Yeah, but they're much more prominent and visible in every day life here in Portland.

Especially the part about "where young people go to retire" thing.

By far my favorite line, and one that friends and I use whenever we can now, is "Please don't point at me ... every time you point I see a penis"
Also I have this on a dating profile:

My favorite was the competitive hide and seek scenario, mainly because we've all known that guy.

Oh Sam Adams. Nothing says Portland like having a relationship with a man named Beau Breedlove.

I LOVE Portland.
That website lies. I'm looking out my window and it's definitely snowing.
It's saying "YES!" for me.
