Hey all, I got a mandolin for xmas and am just getting a chance to play it and was curious what are some of the more popular jigs/reels to play on the instrument? I've seen a couple people on here mention they play mandolin and figured it's worth a shot to ask.

I like making veggie sandwiches - slice eggplant, zucchini, and squash. Salt and let dry for an hour. Grill on press with onions with pesto, all on a toasted bun.

    Oh, not a mandoline. Nevermind.

Well, giving you the business aside, what you'll want to do is run down to your local Guitar Center or hop on Amazon and pick out what we call a "Fakebook" of bluegrass tunes for Mandolin. Like this one.

Basically practice as many of them you can whether they are any good or not, and you'll continue getting better until you can start picking up tunes you like that you hear on YouTube or what have you without having to have the music right there in front of you.

Mandolin Cafe and Mandozine are great resources for tabs. I'm a big fan of the Shady Grove songbook also (transcriptions of David Grisman's mando parts on the Garcia/Grisman album "Shady Grove")

Mandolins are tuned to the same strings as fiddle/violin. If you can read music, you can play any jigs/reels that are written for violin.
