I joke but my legs have failed on me thrice in the last two weeks and it's actually really fucking scary. I told my doctor and he was sure I had just fainted and was either too stupid/dazed to realize it or didn't want to admit it. I think I might need to get a new one.

    A new doctor, I mean.

I like this quote, a lot:
The economic anarchy of capitalist society as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of the evil. We see before us a huge community of producers the members of which are unceasingly striving to deprive each other of the fruits of their collective labor—not by force, but on the whole in faithful compliance with legally established rules.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

the "no true scotch man" fallacy.

So, someone has invoked the logical fallacy of appealing to authority in response to why Einstein is bullshit.

So, what's the name of the logical fallacy that someone who is not an expert in a certain field is not prepared to offer a POV on other fields?

Or is that a logical fallacy? Because if it isn't, it should be.

In order to illustrate my meaning, let me record here a personal experience. I recently discussed with an intelligent and well-disposed man the threat of another war, which in my opinion would seriously endanger the existence of mankind, and I remarked that only a supra-national organization would offer protection from that danger. Thereupon my visitor, very calmly and coolly, said to me: “Why are you so deeply opposed to the disappearance of the human race?”

I am sure that as little as a century ago no one would have so lightly made a statement of this kind. It is the statement of a man who has striven in vain to attain an equilibrium within himself and has more or less lost hope of succeeding. It is the expression of a painful solitude and isolation from which so many people are suffering in these days. What is the cause? Is there a way out?

On the topic of organ transplants, I think organ donations should be opt-out instead of opt-in.
If you decide to opt out for whatever reason, you get bumped for every single person that didn't no matter how long you've been on the list, because, fuck you.

This is true, but the fact that Einstein wrote that essay is largely an attention-grabbing coincidence. We can evaluate his argument based on the merits of the argument, not based on Einstein's authority in the matter.

it should be opt-out for the simple reason that if you don't care either way, you're not gonna get a donor card

if you do care and would like not to, you care enough to carry a "don't use my organs, let them rot in a ditch instead" card

    possibly more diplomatically worded

Yes, and it should have a tiered transplant system. Right now it's Children < 17 = instant transplant pretty much. Everyone else goes in a huge queue together.

    I think it should be children < 21 | 21-30 | 31-45 | 45-60 | 61+

It is absolutely atrocious my girlfriend had to wait almost 4 years for her first one (which failed instantly, but she had a nervous breakdown from it and opted off the list for a year) and probably another 4 years for her second one (her second transplant was willed to her from a relative). No one under 30 should get beaten by someone over 60 3 fucking times.
