As a pretend Mexican (my dad's a for real one), I can confirm that Speedy is, in fact, fuckawesome.
Some....relative of mine (I dunno, lots of people show up to reunions) has a Speedy tattoo on his forearm. He also has a big 'ol Mexican handlebar mustache
that's crazy, I can't remember any Daffy/Speedy cartoons
It was the 60s, the decade where the WB cartoons had dropped off dramatically in quality after the high point of the 30s-50s. As such, they tend not to show them much in the rotations.
The Censored Eleven is a group of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons that were withheld from syndication by United Artists (UA) in 1968. UA owned the distribution rights to the Associated Artists Productions library at that time, and decided to pull these eleven cartoons from broadcast because the depictions of black people in the cartoons were deemed too offensive for contemporary audiences. The ban has been upheld by UA and the successive owners of the pre-August 1948 Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies catalog to this day, and these shorts have not been officially broadcast on television since 1968, and have only been exhibited once by Warner Bros., since then, theatrically in one theater in spring 2010 (see below for more details). They have turned up, however, on low-cost VHS and DVD collections over the last thirty years.
Slowpoke Rodríguez ("Lento Rodríguez" in Spanish, though some more recent translations call him "Tranquilino") is described as "the slowest mouse in all Mexico" from the country side of Mexico, and is a cousin to Speedy Gonzales, who is known as the fastest. However, he mentions to his cousin that while he may be slow in the feet, which he is best known for, he's not slow in "la cabeza" (the head). He speaks in a monotone voice and seems to never be surprised by anything. While he is the slowest mouse in all of Mexico he has been shown to have certain other (more extreme) methods of protecting himself.
Slowpoke only appeared in two cartoons alongside his cousin. The first, Mexicali Shmoes (1959), ends with two lazy cats, Jose and Manuel, the former learning the hard way that Slowpoke carries a gun (though the gun bit has been edited out of this cartoon in recent years). The second, Mexican Boarders (1962), revolves around Speedy trying to protect Slowpoke from Sylvester the Cat, but in the end, Slowpoke demonstrates his ability to hypnotize Sylvester into becoming his slave. The other mice comment at this point that "Slowpoke Rodriguez may be the slowest mouse in all Mexico, but he has the Evil Eye!". This short (which was later edited into Bugs Bunny's 3rd Movie: 1001 Rabbit Tales) contains a possible allusion to a marijuana habit when Slowpoke sings La Cucaracha. Despite his few appearances, "Lento Rodríguez" is an immensely popular character in Latin America.
That one also probably needs more attribution for a Wikipedia article, but allegedly Slowpoke is likeable too. I dunno.
I'm fine with people letting them know that this is an unpopular edit among the fanbase, but one should really exercise perspective. This is not a civil rights crusade. People are going, "We have to fight censorship!" and I said, "Nobody censored Hasbro, they did this on their own volition to their own show". "Well, we have to fight against self-censorship!" Hmm, okay. Have fun with that.
I'll be honest, this whole change doesn't sit right with me. Though I'm not sure I can articulate precisely why.
If they'd just cut out Dash saying 'Derpy', I'd be fine with it - bit of a murky legal area and all that.
But changing her voice to be more stereotypically airhead and 'fixing' her eyes a bit? I dunno. I thought part of the message of the show was supposed to be that there are many ways of being a girl.
Provided you have a properly girly voice and no (or very limited) physical imperfections. Apparently. Girls aren't supposed to be that way. I guess.
So I just watched the latest episode. In this one we learned that Pinky doesn't give a shit about the laws of physics, Euclidean geometry, or the 4th wall.
If they aired this video from the beginning nobody would have given Derpy shit.
And the whole Speedy thing, I never saw him as racist nor the same with Slowpoke. In fact, I liked Slowpoke more due to his chillax'd attitude about everything. Mellow, cool, collective oh and a gun.

See, this recut version is probably the best. Except for the delivery of Derpy's "You okay, Rainbow," and "My bad," lines, I have no complaints whatsoever.
And Slowpoke Rodriguez was absolutely an entertaining character. It's a damn shame some people throw a huge fit over such inconsequential things as Mexican rats in their cartoons. And it's not like they were saying all Mexicans are slow and lazy and they carry guns. That was one Mexican character out of five in that cartoon, so you can't even accuse the cartoon of stereotyping Mexicans.

I suppose you could say that it stereotyped them as wearing sombreros and untucked ascots.

Well every Mexican I've ever worked with has worn a sombrero, so that doesn't count.

it's really fucking weird
Speedy and Daffy had shared appearances in 26 cartoons in the 60s.

Slowpoke, however, is racist as hell.

I love it.
Someone online made a mixing of the two versions. With Dash's lines using the old and Derpy using the new.

(McDonalds pony toys should be in by then.)

NOT EMO ENOUGH! And omg that video, I will actually play my Skyrim if he ever makes a Fluttershy companion.
Yeah, probably. It'd just be unfortunately generic voice-wise, but eh. Bob-bon survived not putting those apples in her bag.
But that's not what happened. And then someone, somewhere thought it would be a good idea to start whitewashing.
What Lauren needs to do is set up a kickstarter for her Galaxy Girls project, hire DHX, and make that an online series
Seriously though, this new Super Friends series of shorts looks friggin' awesome.
This.
Can you imagine the shit tons of money fans of MLP would throw at her? I'd imagine it would rival the likes of Double Fine's kickstarter.
How did that happen
Haha, what a piece of manipulative shit.
I assume that first you were talking to teefs for some reason
TFS is very anti-Derpy
Just
like
that
