@Anjin-San do you suppose a character like Derpy Hooves or Speedy Gonzales would be appropriate in a television show/movie aimed at adults?
Is it the target audience that is at stake here or are all stereotyping characters off limits? I guess I ask because you do have a Black Dynamite avatar. I'm not judging here, just curious about your personal stance on these things.
that avatar is from the player haters ball segment of chapelle's show. The content is made and advertised as being for adult consumption!
Oh, right my bad that isn't answerring your question! If we yanked aside my blind hatred of pony fandom and consumer idolatry aside I'd say that Speedy wouldn't work well as an adult character. Black Dynamite has the strong stereotype imagery but subverts it, and is constantly self aware to the point of purposely editing the film badly. There is nuance and cultural awareness in the humor. Speedy Gonzalas is a mouse in a pancho.
You have an interesting idea of "civil conversation". This may be an SE++ Thread, but we are held to a higher standard. You are more than welcome to not enjoy the series, the fandom, consumer idolatry, etc.
But this thread in particular is a celebration of the things you seem to hate, and hate "blindly" by your own words. If you want to know more about the series I'm sure people here would be more than happy to educate you on the subject, my self included. But if you are simply coming here to rage about your hatred of it, well perhaps that energy can be spent elsewhere? I guess I really don't see the point.
Also you keep mentioning that we aren't mods. While this is true, the people in this thread really enjoy this series and take it upon themselves to make sure the thread stays clean and positive. There is a certain amount of self-policing that goes on in this thread in order for us to keep it around.

Anjin has yet to say anything hateful towards pony fandom, he is talking about Speed Gonzalas and I suppose how it relates to "Derpy". This is a topic that was not brought up by him but of the people in this thread.
Far from it, in a good mood. That's why I didn't even begin to address my qualms with the white guilt statement, or make an aside about the structure and syntax of the above rebuke again asking me to leave to the thread. No I got off vacation, I'm refreshed.

I have to wonder if they just aired the edited episode first with out releasing The "potentially offensive" first cut, would there have been any controversy or would the entire Brony fan-base be puking rainbows of joy? We'll probably never get another Derpy speaks episode, unless this show beats the dreaded episode 65 curse, but she'll still be in the background. She's just been banished to Cranky's Sno-Globe for the time being.

I'll answer in earnest, I guess. I am allowed to dislike things you like, and for the most part I've answered a question callius asked, and spoke in reference to a very specific thing. Find a way to deal?

You are most certainly allowed to dislike the things I like. I'm not particularly bothered by it. I'm just more curious as to the thought process behind posting in a thread dedicated to something you don't like. It is not something that I would consider doing, so I guess you can consider my curiosity piqued.

God damn, I'm excited about a lot of cartoons coming up. Between MLP:FIM, Super Best Friends Forever (and the rest of the DC nation sketches, and Korra: The Last Airbender, I'm going to be set for a while, I'm sure.
But, anyway, about them ponies. What's best/most interesting thing y'all have found about a background pony? I found a 20 page comic about the adventures of Dr. Hooves that, if you removed all the ponies, would have been a serviceable starting point for an actual Dr. Who story.

Dr. Hooves is probably one of my favorite background pony concepts . I especially love the animated scenes that have been put to sound bytes from the show itself. I'm not normally big on fan stories but that one in particular is pretty cool.

Derpy hooves would be offensive to adults in the same way blackface is, or Carlos Mencia.
i have been mentaily ill for most of my life, i went to a handicap school and still on meds for most of my life and mostly untill i die. i never found derpy offensive to me, get your white guilt out of this thread please.
IMO people specking for a group that not theres is as mush offensive as blackface or slurs.
Attempting to speak for a large group defined by cultural standards, whether you're a part of the group or not, is hugely problematic.
And people can advocate for discussing these issues without being motivated by guilt.
Aww jeeze. I'm blushing here! I guess the thing I mentioned earlier was in reference to speedy but not Derpy. Let me elaborate on the reasoning of the blackface mention earlier! See, what's weird about this character is that while its very literal fan service, it is kinda aimed at the adult and internet savvy audience as opposed to its intended audience, children. Objectively, derpy as a phrase is akin to durrr or other insenstive phrases in regard to the disabled. It explicitly exists as a charicature for adults to laugh at while it goes over children's heads. Like speedy! Or jersey shore! Tanning as blackface, let's make each laugh in obvious shame! Let's laugh at the wall eyed horse! Callous stuff, my friend!

So... Pinkie Pie in a world where Pinkie Pie doesn't laugh at the mere idea of physics?

Internet arguments would be a lot cleaner if people read up on their game theory.
This one makes me laugh every time I watch it.

That's right, I just played a full house of cards right there.
