When consider all that Serah has gone through, "Oh hai, I'm a crystal," and Noel having watched all the rest of humanity die off, its not that surprising. And its not like everyone else is just saying "Whatevs" and moving on. Gadot just about kicked Noels ass for getting serah close to the scary crystal meteor thing.
It isn't so much the quick acceptance of time travel that bugs me.
It's the fact that everyone immediately is aware of time gates and paradoxes as soon as the game boots up. And by everyone, I mean every single NPC you talk to.
I keep constantly asking "How? How do you know this, you irrelavent random person, you?". It grates me, greatly.
They know about it because they have always existed for them. From their perspective, there has never been a time without the paradoxes.
Man, Yomi is an awesome fight. Damn you Square Enix for making the majority of this game way too easy, you've got a fantastic battle system in here!
E: Also, Bravery Feeder is overpowered. Imba l'il Chichu picking up all the slack. Guide basically says to approach it like the Vercingetorix fight, but I brute-forced it instead.
I'm in Bresha Ruins 005 AF and found the item that allows you to turn back time in New Bodhum 003 AF. When is the best time to go back and start replaying areas? I don't want to screw anything up or make multiple trips

It's pretty impossible to screw up, and you WILL have to take multiple trips to the same time period. My advice is to use a guide on gamefaqs or something instead of spending a bunch of time looking for sidequests.
A Thing you want to do on your first visit if you plan to 100% the game:
Explore the whole map after you have unlocked chocobos for that region.

Whenever you want, really. The only benefit to turning back time in New Bodhum 003AF is to rechoose the Live Trigger questions to get a different reward, though.

It did me, too, initally. They explain that, sorta. For one, these random people? They're not random people, they're research scientists sent specifically to the locations you're ending up to study this odd effect that keeps happening -- that definitely has something to do with time. It's not unsurprising they'd know the terminology behind it. In addition, you'll find out when you finish Vile Peaks 10/200 AF that they're studying those oddball insect time monsters from the first few fights of the game, so they are getting a fairly good grasp on what is happening behind the gates, even if they can't go through them.
Also, there's the fact that the term Paradox and whatnot come from a very special source:
Hope from 13-1, in the years since the first game, has basically turned into this badass super-scientist, a cross between James Bond and Bill Nye or something. He's the one who realized what's going on with time gates, partially because he keeps finding these magic Dungeons and Dragons dice that play recordings of timelines. He's basically dedicated his life to studying this odd ass effect, partially because he thinks he might be able to travel back in time and save his mother, and partially because literally every one of the FF13-1 characters is MIA after 13-1 except for him.
The load times aren't bad until you start reloading after a specific fight, trying to get a 1 shot only crystal to drop. Apparently there's some visual cue with monster death animations that will tell you if a crystal dropped (outside of the obvious "zoom in, LOOK A CRYSTAL" one)... but I don't see it.
So I played more than 5 minutes of the demo and I'll say the battle system is cool and aside from that the game seems subpar.
Collecting monsters that affect your paradigms is cool shit, QTEs in an RPG is not. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the end of the first boss fight. I don't know who kept running their mouth of when I was exploring the ruins or whatever but it was extremely annoying. "What if I am just a dream of another me? But that's okay I got give this life all I got!" The story and dialogue just weren't impressing me. I can appreciate them trying to expand the world and not hold your hand throughout the whole game and it looked like a step up from XIII, but I don't think the game was good enough to warrant a sequel. This is definitely a rent/20 dollar game for me.
With the Academia core are you supposed to find some switch or something to turn the walkway to go down? I got it by jumping down and then bringing mog to me by just using the throw but not throwing.

The chicobo. ;D
Because I had nothing better to do, I would read the glossary thing every time it updated. At some random ass point mid game, the chicobo's entry is changed to basically state it's some kind of untold world ending horror in an immature form. Next chapter, the entry changes back to "chocobo baby"
The human underneath the chicobo is also the best character in XIII.
I just wanted to know what @KiTA was referring to reloading for a one shot crystal.
I think he's referring to the guard bots in Academia 400 since they are recruitable, don't have 100% crystal rate and are gone when you defeat them. I haven't found the same robots outside of that area but I'm guessing you can fight them elsewhere, otherwise yeah its pretty silly to have to save/reload to get them.
Seven hours in...the tutorial tunnels NEVER.END! Thanks god for that super cute Chocobo. 8->
You're in luck with the sequel then, areas are a lot more open, the story is heck of a lot less linear, tutorial takes maybe an hour and even then is very quick and chocobos galore! First one good too though.

You're being chased! Would you rather like a branching path with oh look a sidequest and sweet betting on chocobo races and look a minigame... Oh well now I'm captured and killed.
Really after the chase portion of the game ends it opens up a lot more which, you know, makes sense.
I really liked FFXIII for the corridor aspect, actually. I feel like branching paths would've been cool, but I still enjoyed it a lot. At least until the plot went to hell. My only real disappointment with the XIII series in general is that each character performs fairly closely up until the end of the game.

I managed to read that datalog entry too, but if I remember right it said something like, 'It is said that if it's name were uttered, untold chaos would erupt across the land blah blah blah...Either that, or Sazh hasn't named it yet."
I remember finding it a bit odd because the rest of the datalog entries are very factual and to the point.
Now I wanna play FF12, the one game in the series I've never even started.
I take it the game is not available on PSN? If so, what would be my best choice to play it on my HDTV without it looking terrible?
Watch Star Wars then play Dragon Age. Same thing, only better
Real answer - If you have a PC with enough horsepower, you can get an emulator to run it naturally at 720p or better. It should actually look pretty good!
Unfortunately, my PC sucks and my PS3 is one of the slim models.
I'm trying to keep it cheap too. If I bought a PS2 it would be only for that, so I wouldn't want to spend more than $50 altogether.
You could probably pick up a used PS2 for $50 or so. FF12 isn't that expensive nowadays either, so you could probably get both for about $65 - 70. Probably less if you get a cheap used copy.

Or if you have a backwards compatible PS3, play it on there. It has a widescreen function in the Options menu. Doesn't look half bad up-rez'd.
The main difference between the PS3 and the PC emulator is that the PS3 blurs (not the technical term) the pixels to make it smoother at a larger resolution. The PC actually just renders the thing at the right size so the image is much crisper
But yeah, the BC PS3 is the easy way to play it and have it look decent.

Yeah, I was definitely going for the easier method. I've seen some screens of it running on a PC and it looks super-sharp. And I'm sure the game was acquired legitimately as well...
Oerba: an exercise in long outstaying your welcome. It's the complete opposite of how it was in FF13.
I kinda like the temporal rift puzzles (even the clock one), but no one in their right mind could possibly have thought "Yes, let's stick 17 of them all in one goddamn zone, and let's have them all be three to SIX stages long!" was a good idea.

I have my PC set to run my PS2 games and I just pop the disc in the drive. It's a good thing too, since my backwards compatible PS3 died last year.
Attaining the BIOS legally for the emulator is a bit of a hassle. There are illegal methods that are arguably morally acceptable, but I'm going to stop here before I get myself infracted.
I just wanted to know what @KiTA was referring to reloading for a one shot crystal.
Fencers in 400AF do not respawn, and are a material for Chichu's ultimate build. You can reset the gate to try again, however. Just kinda a pain in the ass.

Ah yeah, totally forgot about those. I think I just filed them away in my head as "when I reset" but man 400AF was annoying early on when the enemies were constantly attacking and giving 4 CP.
Does the encounter reduction help with that particular area or is the spawn rate hard coded?
They're not technically spawning, so nothing helps. Apparently later on finding a nice corner near the boss will let you grind CP more or less AFK though. But by then... who cares?

It is a murder machine and it totally outclasses everything else I have, including Serah and Noel.

None? There are certain Monsters that can only be caught once, but I believe their drop rates are 100%.
All of the 1 shot monsters, to the best of my knowledge, are gotten from moogle throw and not actually fighting.

So I'm playing through FFXIII first.
