Basically, the show chronicles the events leading up to the Cylon revolt.

Personally, I think it'll be interesting to see more of the background, though it might be awkward seeing the brief period of time where the Cylons were subservient rather than violent and focused on wiping out humanity.

    How interesting.
I guess this is another show I'll be looking forward to.

So in the podcast for "Dirty Hands" RDM talks about how it will try and chronicle more of the family Adama, specifically Lee's grandfather the civil lawyer.

I'm not sure I want another lawyer show...

You could have done that without posting in the thread.

I don't know what to think. It could be awesome. It could suck. If it's awesome, it will kick ass. If it sucks, it will suck.

Is it going to be using the old school cyclon designs?

I guess no, other than possibly the ships (the Raiders aren't that bad from outside). I think they will get around this by having the Cylons we most often see rebelling not being the Centurians but the manual workers.

I would love to see this but I would prefer if it was limited to a mini series or just one season, I wouldnt want to see them drag it out too long

A show of the first War might be interesting.

A show of the robots whining and bitching when their masters aren't looking? Sounds like a suckfest.

When I first heard about the premise for this show, I thought it sounded terrible.

However, when I first heard about the new BSG miniseries, I also thought that sounded terrible, and it turned out to be incredible. I have faith that Caprica will turn out to be pretty good, despite the underwhelming premise. In the very least, I will this time give them the benefit of the doubt before passing judgment.

As much as I heart BSG, I'm way wary of this Caprica idea. Of course, with brilliant writing and acting it could be great television. But just as an idea it reaks of iffy to me.

It's a setup that sounds too predictable, like I could almost guess a dozen of the stories it'll use in the first couple of seasons. If they had ideas to play it completely against expectation, then my ears might go erect and I'll exhibit tentative signs of interest.

And BSG certainly played against expectations for the first two seasons, but has become much more adherent to Syd Fields plotting in season 3 And this sort of plotting in a story we already know the ending to just wouldn't swing it. Think: Star Wars new films.

That's my gut reaction anyway. And could all be overturned by an opening episode as good as 33.

I think they should buy up the license on The Reality Dysfunction and see what they can do with that. TRD done with the same bawls as the first two BSG seasons would be a sight to behold.

I think there's an advantage in having another, different show set in the BSG universe. It will attract another, different audience. Some of them at least will then make the switch from Caprica to BSG.

Now in case you didn't know, BSG is suffering from poor ratings. So bringing in a new audience would definitly be a good thing.

We actually asked Bamber and McDonnel about Caprica show plans and they pretty much said that it's dead, FYI. They hadn't heard a thing since the initial announcment, and no talks about it so they are thinking it's poofed.

    'We'?

Also, I seriously doubt Caprica would attract anyone but BSG fans.

They did an interview at a university a couple of week back, few people here went to that.

I'd be quite suprised if we didn't see Capicra at some point, the actors might not hear that much of it since they aren't going to be in it. But I can't see Scifi not wanting to try and turn BSG into a franchise at some point (Caprica and the Cylon war at least), the writers and producers experience at Star Trek and the sucess of Stargate is going to go some way to push them down that path

although this shows premise does not strike me as something id want to see, or something that will be a success, I will say that one of the most appealing qualities to BSG is the fact that sometimes its just "life...in space!"

They do a fantastic job dealing with issues that arent really sci-fi centric and do an amazing job adding a small sci-fi twist to those issues.

Thus, there is reason to believe such a show would work.

However, it has to contain many of the elements of BSGs story telling that make it work so well. It needs a rather large, ensemble cast without clearly defined main characters. It also needs multiple long running story lines for the characters as well as an over all arc.

Finally, this show would do a great job leading to a new series about the first cylon war. Give me 2 years of Caprica ending in an amazing season finale which also acts as a jump start for a Cylon War series and id be excited.
