So, partly to kill time, I was thinking of the different films that helped inspire Mass Effect. To save time and space, I'm only sticking to the big ones.

Terminator- Mankind fights for survival against a race of unstoppable machines... yeah, no similarities here.
Dirty Harry- A cowboy cop goes out to clean up the mean streets, he doesn't have TIME to play by the book!
    Dune- Worms, lots of worms.
Blade Runner- For its depiction of a plausable, if somewhat dead, future city. Also, lots of rogue AIs persecuted for fair, and unfair reasons.
Star Wars- For the visual depiction of space battles. Yes, there's tons of hard science, but the battles still look like straight up dogfights and slugfests.
Star Trek- Man finding a place in the stars, with green space babes, warrior races, and punching. Lots of punching.
Starship Troopers- The book for the more general concept of space marine, but the film for the Rachni.
5th Element- A snazzy future with a lot of cool visuals, and somewhat rarely, shows that even in the future. People are still mostly... well, people.

I'm personally seeing alot of "the force" in biotic powers.
Krogans = Klingons but I'm not sure if this isn't a general group type.

Running through the first two games on PC to get a renegade shep to play after finishing with my canon paragon on 360.

Man you guys weren't kidding when you said the female VA is good, can't wait to get into 2 to see if it can get any better than the first.

I'm very curious about post-Shepard ME universe offerings. I also have the feeling that (speculative spoilers)....
Shepard will die, period. That Reaper tech he was resurrected with will be his undoing. And it will be in an incredibly moving scene with his love interest. No new information to go on, just a gut feeling since everything the Reapers touch, they destroy, and that it has been made explicitly clear that this is the end of Shepard's story.

I'm calling it now, there will be another Mass Effect game released about this time next year.

That will be one of the worse endings on the Good ending <---> Bad ending scale. I'm expecting there to be a proper sunshines and rainbow ending where you beat the reapers and everything is SUPER after. We're talking, "the batarians redeem themselves in the eyes of the galactic community and everyone lives in relative peace and harmony forever" super.

this would be too close to DA, particularly if it turns out that cybershepard with his reaper implants can hack the reapers' collective gibson.

I really don't think there will be an "ice cream and ponies" ending at this point.
At the least, we know Earth gets invaded at the beginning of ME3, so I think Earth will be largely toasted. However, I think the Universe will band together and defeat the Reapers with minimal crappiness otherwise.

And that we'll get a sacrificial Shepard to save the universe, probably.

Probably not much. You won't see a cameo from Kasumi (or Zaeed if you don't have him), but the main things like Shadow Broker and Arrival will likely be explained as offscreen events (either by Shepard or others), and I'm thinking the ME2 DLC guns are in ME3 by default.

Also, yay gold! Leap year February for worst longest month of all time.

Well, I have all the DLC but it's on XBox 360.

But I don't want Mass Effect 3 on XBox. I want it on PC.

And I have Mass Effect 1 & 2 on PC, but I don't have any of the DLC on PC.

It's a mess. I don't wanna miss a Zaheed/Kasumi cameo, but I don't wanna buy $25+ worth of DLC all over again either.

Stupid obsessive question: does anyone know how many crew conversations there are for ME? I looked at my save file in Gibbs and saw that my non romanced Liara and Ash were 3/4 for times talked to, but I'm not sure if that's just because I didn't romance them, or if I missed a ship convo.

I'm one of those people who will start seizing if I find out I missed a slightly modified line of dialog because I didn't have all the Matriarch writings, so I just want to be sure.

Most character usually only have 3-4 convos if you're not romancing them.

But if every time they talk to you they give you that "Can we talk later, line" and you've already done their loyalty mission and aren't romancing them, then that means you've pretty much exhausted most of their stuff.

That being said after you beat the game everyone will have a short line about the mission. Also, Kasumi will make comments about events going on in the game as you go through stuff.

I would say of all the character's Thane, Samara, and Mordin have the most. Legion also has a decent amount to say.

Garrus, Jacob, and Grunt have the least. Miranda's is pretty sparse too unless you're romancing. Same for Tali I believe.

Dialogue was kind of sparse overall in ME2. Or at least felt like it.

For the most part you can talk to your crew once per main story mission. Or sometimes more if you do quests inbetween.

Oh...I thought that ME? was ME2(I'm tired).

As for ME1 I would say squadmates usually have something new to say after every major mission.

Every time you do one just talk to them until they've got nothing to say. I think their special sidequests pop up either depending on how much you've talked to them or just on how many sidequests you've done.

You get extra dialogue if you bring them along during said sidequest but I know it is possible to do Tali's without even asking her.

Also...Ashley and Kaidan don't have special sidequests(though Ashley knows that Indian guy in one of the really early sidequests or at least his wife).

And Liara's personal sidequest would pretty much be just taking her along with you on Noveria.

Total agreement. I remember going over the limit I'd supposedly set for myself to get an early copy of ME1 off ebay, and starting it up like five days before the proper release. I had a lot of amusing messages from friends at that time.

So I started playing ME2 again to get a good playthrough for ME3 transferin' (my last one probably would have been ok except I romanced Garrus and I'd rather not cheat on Liara for the "for reals" one :P). Forgot how annoying Vanguard is even on Hardcore difficulty. Jesus. For a class designed for close combat, everything kills me in two seconds. Really hope they fixed this crap in ME3.

Fun overall though. I've gotten Mordin and Garrus already. I'll have to actually play the DLC this time - only played Kasumi the first time around (because that's all that was out at the time :P)

In all honesty, that's a problem of technique, not the class, @Warlock82. You can't treat a Vanguard quite like you can a Sentinel. Where as a Sentinel you want to charge into that group of enemies, because your shields will recharge once they get zapped and everybody gets stunned, as a Vanguard you want to be picking guys off at the edges of the fight. A cluster of 3 mooks is a dangerous threat that you may or may not make it out of; one guy off at the edge near some cover is perfect.

Once you get the positioning out of the way, the rest is just shotgunning dudes in the face and elbowing them in the kidneys as you rocket across the landscape.
