Satans..... hints.....
Sure but I'm kinda calm-grumpy. Sit me in front of network TV for an hour and I'll chew through my own foot to get away.
I buy a three day pass every year. I'd never click the links anyways. I do sometimes check out a link in the news post. I'm not advocating in any way that everyone should block ads. But this is kind of my happy place online. Ads, for whatever personality flaw I have that causes this, make me highly bitter. I'm not going to invite that into my happy place.

We try to actively add value to our community - whether that's through humor, education, or a show/event, and we do it in a way that isn't designed to maximize profits. We love what we do here, and money isn't a huge motivator for us... but we do need to make money to keep the lights on etc. I appreciate that you buy a 3-day pass, but keep in mind that 3-day pass pays for PAX to run. It's not really there to subsidize the rest of our operations. I suppose we could design/price it that way, but we don't.
I also wonder if folks really understand that blocking ads hurts our ability to generate revenue for the site - it especially messes with certain clients, because they end up paying for X ads, seeing less than that get delivered, and the come back to us pissed.
We're not some faceless corporation, and we really really like you guys. We've always been as straight up as possible, and I've always wondered what people who liked us back that blocked ads were thinking. People know that we gotta pay for bandwidth. We have overhead to cover, etc.
It's an interesting discussion.

I would largely leave the internet if I couldn't block ads. I can't shop at stores that play ads over their loudspeakers. It's kind of a thing.
And hell, does PA have a donate button? I'll pay my due.
Click the wrench icon --> Tools --> Extensions --> Options under Adblock Plus --> select the Whitelisted Domains tab --> type in penny-arcade.com --> click +Add domain
Pretty sure you also need to whitelist googleadservices.com and doubleclick.net, which sort of defeats the point of having adblock.
I'm seeing two ads for Friday Night Magic on the front page and the ad for PATS Season 2 on the forums right now
Stop being so goddam reasonable
since the thread left SE++, i have to make a conscious effort to go look at it, and so most of the time i don't
every once in a while i'll go and read through what i've missed, but that's not often
i guess in the long run it's better, because instead of looking at the thread, i'm actually going to the site and generating ad revenue i wouldn't have otherwise
Yeah, I actually have PA whitelisted in adblock but the above things I mentioned blocked in NoScript. Whoops.
I took your survey but would like to add a PSP to my list of gaming devices. I saw PSVita but no PSP option.
Love,

Play Fanduel. One Day Fantasy Leagues use my referral
Be my friend on Magic Online! Dogbone19 is me.

I'm just sweet like that. 8->
Now if only you'd send me my dickerdoodle royalty check ;_;
like the Asian waifu dating service one
Are you sure it's not based on your browser history, SH?
Your forums still suck though.
Don't you technically own Robert? Can't you just order him to give you the money?
I think the one for the pre xbox 360 online one was one of the longest and rather disapointing ones I have filled out.
It was werid to list what type of games I now play compared to the last time I was asked and what I said. TO see the difference in 10 years was rather odd
too many ad networks serve up malware/spyware, inadvertently or not. i've seen too many malware infested computers to want that. PA is one of the few sites that i know actively vets their ads before they go live.
except for some of those goofy TV spots that play before PATV vids. i think there was a commercial for term life insurance on there at one point :P

But I never ever pay any attention to ads or popups or anything like that. Maybe it's because I remember the early days of internet advertising all too clearly, but I can pretty honestly say I've never been actually enticed to a product or service based on internet advertising.
Newsposts are another matter, though. The only form of advertising that really does work for me is word of mouth, so while the implicit endorsement from Mike and Jerry simply by virtue of being on the site likely works for many, I'm usually not going to give a damn unless they also elucidate their opinions on the front page or some other medium.
Coran Attack!
It's totally an interesting conversation to have, especially around here because the discourse is very direct between PA, usually yourself, and members of the community. I love that PA doesn't bother with having any real kind of public relations. It makes any attempt to actually be accommodating feel geniune. But I'm tempted to furrow my brow a bit when companies take this stance only to sort of imply an obligation on the part of the consumer to support said company vis a vis ad revenue, especially when vocalized dissent usually leads to the response "well if you don't like this FREE service, there's the door."
I'll be the first to say I don't have a solution that's going to make every single person happy. Within the past few years I've started making a much more concerted effort to support the companies and organizations I deem worthy of it, and to hold back on the ones I don't, and Penny Arcade is absolutely one of the former. I just don't like when the conversation becomes 'ads are where we get our money, otherwise you gotta pay, and you wouldn't want that, would you' *knocks over expensive vase*
And attempt to make myself semi-classy.
I'd buy a First Party Hawaiian shirt
Oh, and my 174+ games on Steam -alone- doesn't help things. 200+ games, 1-2 games purchased a month, makes things look weird.
you'd buy a CAD Hawaiian shirt if Buckley sold 'em.
