So I'm playing through Mass Effect 2, and I'm like 99% sure I romanced Ashley in ME1, but now she's giving me this handshake on Horizon and bitch didn't send me no apology e-mail. Does this mean the save doesn't recognize our pre-Ilos banana-wrangling?

so long as you have her picture in your cabin, you're good

The picture is just a dark space :(

ok so I found out three days ago that my ME2 saves were... gone

I have now just finished the totality of the game, again, from my saved ME1 character, in preparation for ME3

well, all the game except for Arrival. Which I am going through now.

Do you have to do Arrival before the Suicide Mission to get the game to produce an end-save that can be imported into ME3?

Or can you just do Arrival, and save back on the Normandy afterward. Will it import any save made after the suicide mission, regardless of position or locale?

So the picture frame is just there by default. Thatis hilarious.

Like, it was always there before, Shepard just hooked up with Ash and was all "Oh hey, finally someone to put in my frame."

Just played through the Kingdom's of Amalur demo to unlock sweet loot for ME3. The demo was pretty forgettable, hopefully the chakram launcher and armor are a bit more exciting.

Given that the game doesn't stop you from playing after the suicide mission, I don't see why it wouldn't count decisions you made afterwards.

Amazon delivery date shipping still hasn't shipped. I had a book ship yesterday that arrived around 6pm today. Really hoping that the game arrives earlier in the day.

Amazon delivery is always late into the day

    it is torture

I don't get this. I've never noticed that Amazon orders arrive particularly late compared to other items. Pretty much all the shipping companies do domestic deliveries in the afternoon where I live.

    I am ready. Three days.

That's why I can't do Amazon for important shit like games. I love release day delivery, but UPS/FedEx don't come to my place until anywhere between 4pm and 6pm. No way I can wait that long when I could just go to Best Buy or GameStop at 10am.

I ordered ME2 from Amazon, got impatient and pissed, went to BB and bought it, then sent the Amazon copy back.

I am what is wrong with America.

Something bad is going to happen. You're PC is going to crash. You're internet is going to go down. A truck will skid off a road, taking down a power line, leaving you without electricity for two days. You'll drop a knife while dicing some vegetables and cut off three fingers. You'll wake up tomorrow morning completely blind. You'll slip when getting out of the shower on Monday and break both arms. When shopping for groceries, a man will break into your house and steal your TV. You'll be called away on business and be out of the house for five days, during which time your girlfriend decides she's had enough and leaves you, pouring cold tea onto your computer as she walks out the door, frying the components. A meteor will impact your house in the night, destroying it but leaving you miraculously unharmed. America will be invaded, martial law imposed. All video games will be banned and the Electronic Arts authentication servers will be taken out in a nuclear blast. You'll sneeze as you're about to settle in and play the game. It's SARS. You die.

Is there any sort of info regarding how the intelligence of a reaper is formed? I remembered the whole "we are each a nation" thing from Sovereign last night while
I was killing the baby reaper, which clearly housed some sort of consciousness, and I thought...

Man, did I just kill thousands of colonist minds in their digital infancy?

Or did everyone think of that except me

I don't know if spoilering ME2 stuff is necessary but better safe

You think they have a home in dark space?

I've imagined that they're originally from here and between cycles they're out there expanding into new galaxies so they won't have to wait 50,000 years to feed/breed
Which is really slow work since they don't have inter-galactic relays, so they have to drive manually all the way

We can only guess that the genetic material harvested from the colonists was used as construction material for the AI core of the thing itself. It's clearly made out of metal and pipes and things, as are the larger Reaper shells. But the intelligence could be housed inside a biological, yet artificial, brain of some kind. Who knows.

I have to work release day and every day during that week, so I'll only get to play like 6 hours a day instead of 18

  • JavenJaven Registered User regular
Legion explains each Reaper is actually a whole host of operations and programs, working towards a single goal. One Reaper is not necessarily a singular consciousness that you or I would necessary quantify ourselves.

But there's also the beacon and such from ME1 that kind of implies Reapers are definitely a mix or organic and machine, which makes sense considering how they're apparently created.

At the end of the day I don't think we're necessarily supposed to understand them completely. They're really built up as some kind of divine being.

Watching the logs from the derelict Reaper mission always kind of weirds me out.
“Chandana said the ship was dead. We trusted him. He was right. But even a dead god can dream. A god — a real god — is a verb. Not some old man with magic powers. It's a force. It warps reality just by being there. It doesn't have to want to. It doesn't have to think about it. It just does. That's what Chandana didn't get. Not until it was too late. The god's mind is gone but it still dreams. He knows now. He's tuned in on our dreams. If I close my eyes I can feel him. I can feel every one of us.”

I havn't the faintest idea what goes on out there, and that's the creepiest thing...one thought is that the Reapers might not be the biggest fish in the ocean. If the galaxy filaments represent the shallow, temperate ocean reef type ecosystem of the universe, maybe the Reapers only inhabit the periphery of dark space. What else lives in the real depths?

I was under the impression that the Reapers underwent long hibernation cycles to survive while life replenished itself. That everything was just part of their circle of seasons, so to speak

  • The_ScarabThe_Scarab Registered User regular
Yeah. At the end of ME2 it certainly looked like they were 'waking up'. All their lights came on and they started moving and things.

I want to know why these hyper advanced alien intelligences decided to go with the cuttlefish look.

    That's the real mystery.

No more mysterious than the ancient aliens of other franchises who go with the humanoid look

I mean what's with those "hand" things? Look at them! They're really weird!

It seems like the only two possible routes for that question is either "because cephalopods are weird and creepy" or "because Reapers seeded the galaxy with proto-reapers a kabillion years ago and everything in the galaxy is descended from them and that's why nearly all the intelligent species look basically the same".

The first answer is way less lame.

The implication is that one of the races (maybe the first?) that they gobbled up looked like that.

    Ok, mp questions again.

I usually really like playing as an infiltrator in the sp game, but I feel like I am seriously not as much of a fighting force than all these crazy biotic people?

Like, part of the problem is that I don't have a good sense of where the bad guys are at first, so the other people are already there and cleaning up by the time I get there. Another problem is just getting better at sniping without the time slowdown.

I get the personal stuff I need to get better at. Also I only have the Mantis 2, which I'm sure is a problem.

Still, it feels like I am not as effective as the people charging all around all crazy. Is there something else I should be focusing on besides trying to hang back and snipe people

  • ElendilElendil Registered User regular
If you're not really good at sniping, I'm not sure I'd use a sniper infiltrator in multi with other people. I'm trying to learn to snipe, myself, and I just solo on Bronze for that. If I'm playing with other people I stick to shotgun so that I don't feel like I'm dragging everyone down when I miss multiple Mantis shots in succession.

  • EdcrabEdcrab Actually a hack Registered User regular
Infiltrators are a giant "fuck you" to Guardians! Go invisible and flank those bastards

Although since I've got my upgraded Phalanx I actually find it easier to get up close and shoot them through their eye slot

    cBY55.gifbmJsl.png
  • SolarSolar Registered User regular
    The Reapers are pretty cool

But I wish we knew more about them and their origins, and also that they had a bit more nuance and depth to them

Right now they just seem to wake up and eat everything (presumably they leave some stuff), then go away again

Hopefully ME3 will deliver on this

  • LanglyLangly Registered User regular
I am pretty good about sniping them through the eye plate. I have tried to flank them before while cloaked and they still react to me?
